Gareth Bale Transfer Speculation | Done

For that price I think it's fair for Madrid to expect Messi and Ronaldo like contribution from Bale, which he won't deliver on. He's talented but he isn't close to the before mentioned players. This could turn ugly.

Who's to say his tally won't explode playing for us? Just like Ronaldo.

Remember that he's getting feed by Ozil, Isco, Kaka, Modric and co. I think he'll do well at us.

I'm just curious which players will go the other way now, Coentrao seems a certainty and that's no biggie cos we have Marcelo there.

I hope we can keep Di Maria, love the guy on the wing.

He can certainly contribute a great deal. But I don't see him matching anything near Messi and Ronaldo level.

Thing is, with Ronaldo in the same team he certainly won't, that much is guaranteed.

He'd have a lot more chance to come close to those numbers without Ronaldo in the team. Which is the thing that has got me worried.

I don't think you should be worried about Ronaldo, not this summer anyway.

For me, Madrid signing Bale is their answer to Barcelona's Neymar signing.

Maybe his tally will increase but I don't think he's as good as the hype. I'd rather have someone like mata who has end product but is also excellent on the ball and would cost lesser. Bale was a bit of a Lampard last season rather than a Ronaldo.

For me, this signing doesn't make sense if Ronaldo is planning to sign a new deal. Especially at a record price.

Why won't we wait a year or two? Don't forget we just signed Isco aswell.

Before all the Bale stories I was pretty certain Ronaldo wouldn't leave this summer, now I just don't know. I can almost feel there's something we don't know regarding Ronaldo.
.

A bit overpaid isn't it, he is not at level of Messi and Ronaldo yet, maybe same level as Neymar though. 60-65m is about the right price range.

Yeah, good point. Mata isn't as flashy as Bale though, and Perez wants a new flashy toy.

Yeah both in one side makes no sense to me. You can't have Ronaldo and a poorer version of him in the same side both having ridiculous pops at goals from distance.

Madrid trying to outdo Barcelona's Neymar purchase. He'll be back in the Premiership once fans get on his back in a few seasons.

Maybe Bale won't shoot from distance as much and will look to pass to his idol instead but then that will take away from his own game a lot considering the screamers he scored last season. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

What a joke Madrid are. This is fun. Lets see how far they can go. Loads of money and not much cense
Tha's not to say Bale is a bad footbaler and would be great to see him next to Ronaldo, but c'mon!

Madrid don't care whether it is an over the odds fee. They want him, they will get him.

Fair play. Wish our club could just chuck all our revenues back into the team. Then maybe we could compete with them.

Honestly, United fans trying to make digs at other clubs for over paying is bizarre. They're getting amazing talents, regardless. Meanwhile, with the exception of RVP we haven't had any establish players bought in several years.

I'd rather create them than by them, and you wish our club would start throwing obscene money around on players who aren't worth the money being paid? I don't find the digs bizarre at all, it's ruining the market..

When you spend this sort of money on players then success becomes an expectation rather than an achievement. You're basically just breaking even by winning, it takes all the fun out of it. feck being run like Madrid and other clubs. I'd absolutely hate that.

We have competed with them, in fact we've been a lot more successful over the last decade or so due to building a team rather than brining in the shiniest toy and bunging them in to the side. I can understand them spending a lot of money and have no issue with that, my problem is that this is surely not a particularly necessary signing which makes the reported fees all the more absurd. Bale is a terrific player and I'm sure he will be great for them but they already have the likes of Ronaldo, Ozil, Isco, Di Maria and Kaka to play in the triumvirate behind the main striker. Surely it would make more sense for them to spend that astronomical amount of money on a proper striker (given I believe they've only got Benzema and Morata) and/or to bring in another centre half.

I said before that the only way Bale will ever play for United is if Madrid buy him and he fails there. He could be back in 2-3 years in which case he'd still be pretty young and we'd probably enter the bidding. We were never going to take him from Spurs, we don't have the financial power to do so.

You could argue when United were spending £30 million on Ferdinand and Rooney, 10 years ago, it was expected of United also.

Neither Rooney or Ferdinand were players that you could say guaranteed you success. They were highly promising prospects, but hardly the ready made stars that Kaka, Ronaldo and Bale are/were.

Ferdinand then was more ready for success than Bale is now.

Yep, I'd say that's half the fecking reason they're actually paying this fee in the first place. They love outdoing their big rivals and breaking world records is seen as a good thing by them. £85m is nothing to Real, and they'll see it as a statement of "yeah that's right, we're the biggest club in the world, feck the rest of you pretenders."

Indeed. Shark's post even lumped Bale into the same category as Kaká and Ronaldo, both Ballon d'Or winners, proven at the highest level while Bale is precisely a "highly promising prospect". It's the British media that blew him out of all proportion with the talk that he's already better than Ronaldo and similar nonsense.

Hardly. I'd have to be insane to put him in the same catagory as them.

You said he's a ready made star like Kaká and Ronaldo. He's not, not even close.

That doesn't mean that I'm lumping him in the same catagory. Bale is a star in his own right. Not close to Ronaldo or Kaka obviously, but a star nontheless.

Real Madrid knows how to market themselves. Even if I don´t like them much I have to admit that they are very good at it. They create a hype around their targets and with this crazy fee they just pour more gasoline on the fire. They will sell alot of shirts and create alot of sponsorships with their new toy. It wouldn´t matter if the player was one eyed and had a wooden leg they would still know how to hype him. Bale is a very good player and now they will talk him up to world class and create a media circus. Much like Beckham who also was a very good player.

The basis of this argument is spot on - yes, it would be great if we could reinvest all of our own revenue back into the team, stadium and reduced ticket prices. Fantastic.

However, the day we break the world transfer record by 25% on a player who is arguably in the top 10 in the world, after one really good season, then we'll have a problem.

Gareth Bale is simply not worth anything close to £100 million - and the reported figure seems to be going up and up. It's getting stupid now.

It actually wouldn't surprise me if it was people close to the Spurs camp who are planting these stories and 'sources' in order for Madrid to come up with some ludicrous bid, close to being in line with the media reports. If Spurs are offered anything beyond £60 million I believe they'd take it. Right now. Levy would snap your hand off for £100 million.

I'm not quite sure what it is they are paying all that money for.

Ronaldo was a snip at £80m, a WPOTY, 92 goals in the 3 previous years to his transfer compared to Bale's 49 and not nearly as marketable as Ronaldo.

Come on buddy, you can't be that much of a muppet. How exactly have we not been competing with Madrid?

The only way it would make any sense was if Ronnie was leaving , its all agreed and it was for similar money. In that circumstance, they would HAVE to make a massive bid on a high profile talent, and Bale is being built up as some ronaldo successor (though I dont think he will ever be that good myself).

The problem there is I cant see anyone bidding that much for Ronaldo, except maybe city, and that would all over the papers by now, because they cant keep anything quiet at the council house.
