GRRM is not gonna finish it anytime soon. He's written himself into the corner with so many characters in so many places.
He'll need teleportation machine to get them together, like the show did in season 7. Also Dany being mad queen is likely his idea not the show runners'.

Funny thing is GOT was seen as a nerd show (literally "tits and dragons") until maybe season 3 (in UK).... Not many people talked about it and if you did you were looked at like some kind of weirdo. Similar to how it was when you mentioned you read comics or played vidya games....
Now it's a world wide phenomenon and people all over the world are losing their shit over it.... In fact I wouldn't be surprised if someone lost their life over it come season finale. Obviously I hope that doesn't happen.... Unless it's comical and happens to a genuinely bad person.

Most of the people at my work watched it from Season 1 and that was a construction industry firm, not exactly filled with nerds. *shrugs*
Different circles I guess but I literally had to be talked into watching it, and I like this kind of stuff. I had to convince quite a few people too and it wasn't easy.
There's loads of people that watch GoT now that would fall asleep watching any other similarly themed show that was not GoT. I can think of loads off the top of my head.
I find it much harder to pick up a show that's already several seasons long simply because I know it'll end up being a bit commitment time wise to catch up. It's why i've put off watching Sopranos for example and the shows I tend to really commit to are shows that I tend to watch from very early on.
I can't think of one fantasy genre tv show like GoT. Which ones are you thinking of?

I'm going to give Deadwood a watch first, it's been far too long since I watched that show and I think I never actually finished it...
But Sopranos is like over 4,000 minutes of tv. Hence why i've put it off for so long (I don't really like the Gangster genre either, which doesn't help my motivation). I'll get around to it eventually.

Dunno, never liked it. Tried watching Goodfellas several times and I struggle. I'm going to put it down to hating Bugsy Malone as a kid.

Same ending but different way of getting there, which is what I think most people are unhappy about.
All dead Starks have died on an episode 9. Surely they have to buck the trend? Would be boring if all of them survived.

.I'm still not sure why they had to bring in the surrender angle though. It would have made more sense if Dany had razed the City after they refused to surrender or ring the bells. What they could have shown was that she burns the army, then destroys the red keep with Cersei dying. Then when the logical thing would be to stop, she sics Drogon on the innocent people in the City in her anger, even after she has won the war. This makes her madness slightly more rational in a way.
Instead, they decided to show that she razes the City after the surrender just to drive home how evil she is, ignoring the illogicality of the situation. When everyone has surrendered and accepted her rule, what's the point of burning them to a crisp.
Yeah, I also feel the writers could have done better with Alexander the Great pillaging, plundering and burning the city of Persepolis. I mean he was educated by Aristotle after all and they easily could have just conquered and looted as they did to other cities with their alleged honor but they murdered most all the innocent men including old ones and young, enslaved and raped most of the women and then burned the entire city to the ground. Really out of character for Alexander compared to how he was written at other points in his story arc.
Except Dany wasn't someone interested in pillaging and murdering like any common tyrant until the previous episode, so your sarcasm doesn't work. She wanted absolute subjugation/obedience and got it when they surrendered. Her becoming the Mad Queen was quite understandable, but there is no justification for the rushed way they went about it.

Did you see Rome? It's like the precursor to GoT (no supernatural). I thought it was great... Wonder if it still holds up?

If this is what you want, you are a common tyrant. In her case, with absolute power and whilst riding a medieval WMD. Never a great mix.
True, she is a tyrant, but she wasn't the type who wanted her subjects dead or someone who wanted to pillage and take away their wealth. She wanted them alive, prosperous and accepting of her authority over them.
So the point was when the city surrended to her, there was no need for her to burn the people alive since she had got what she wanted.
You dislike it. That doesn't mean that they do.
The actors are doing a promotional tour where they're hyping GoT up. Emilia Clarke is showing a reaction of shock and amazement to try and sell the show. The fact that you read that as negative rather than positive is silly at best. Anyone can see that.
