Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

The taking of Highgarden did seem a bit suspect...I can imagine the castle being under-provisioned or undermanned considering Olenna's focus has pretty much purely been on revenge as opposed to tactics etc, but the fact that it seems like all of the Reach lords have supported the Lannisters in spite of the fact Daenerys has three dragons and (did) have the advantage seems a bit of a stretch.
They've never met Dany and have been told there will be a way to stop the dragons. The promise of an upgrade in status of their houses helps also.

Plus the fear of the dirty foreign dothraki and unsullied.

Obviously just saying oh she has dragons we all surrender to Dany would be a pretty lame story line.

The hound better show up again soon, he's one of the better characters these days

Wait there isnt? I thought that there was just no proof that Snow was their son. There is no record of their marriage either?
Not so far as we know in the show/books, Lyanna was commonly believed to be abducted by Rhaegar, however

Supposedly Samwell Tarly will find a record of Rhaegar's marriage annulment with Elia Martell, so probably proof of his marriage with Lyanna too

DAMMIT. So tempted to look at that spoiler.

But didnt Ser Barristan say a couple of seasons ago how noble and kind Rhaegar was? That abduction story is false isnt it?

It is widely accepted among the fanbase that they eloped, but most of the Seven Kingdom believed Rhaegar abducted Lyanna. Robert most of all of course, he believed Rhaegar raped the girl to death.

So hyped for the next episode

Field of fire 2.0 Dhortraki and Dragons versus that lannister army

And as has been said, those who win can write history.

Unless theres a warg and a Sam to find out the actual truth :)

Yeah I think those scrolls that Sam has to go through, he will definitely find something regarding Jon Snow.

It might turn out to that there will never be direct proof in a scroll. It will come down to the story being told to Jon and others, information being filled in by some others who know part or all of the story and then those it is being told to are left with a decision to believe it or stick with the whole kidnap story. It will likely depend on the characters own biases, and what they want to believe. It has been hinted or shown that there are a few who know the truth of the Jon's lineage, so far they have kept the secret.

The one thing I want the show to fast forward is Snow finding out he is a Targaryen. Will the people of the North have a problem with it? I know his mom was a Stark but dont these lineages and houses go by what the father is?

There is no way anyone would believe that Snow is a Targaryen without proof because that would mean he is the rightful heir to the throne of the Seven Kingdoms. Also this hinting business - who would you reckon know or kinda have an idea? Meisters keep proof of every raven message, as said earlier in the show. Someone must have sent a raven somewhere that Lyanna had given birth.

 there are dragons and people come back from the dead
Those are part of the plot and not an excuse for sloppy writing. The reason that the show has been so good is because the writing has been excellent despite the fact that their are dragons and people coming back from the dead.
If anything the writing needs to be tighter to get people to believe the story when when you have dragons flying overhead.

What were people expecting with jon and danys scenes? I thought they acted exactly like they normally would and it made for great watching.

Also

the foreshadowing is so good. Jon says " I'm not a stark " then the dragon flies right over him
I thought the scene was really good. I like the fact that they didn't get along the moment they saw each other. They have both been through too much to trust that easily.

This thread kind of ruins the show for me

I was a much happier GoT fan boy until I started reading this thread.

I wonder if Jon himself might have a problem with it. The reveal would result in him finding out his paternal grandfather burnt his other grandfather alive, and that his own father still sided with that man. I can see him being quite disillusioned after finding out, and almost wishing Ned was his dad.

So I did that thing where you accidentally click on the wrong thread out of haste, and just as im about to reply 'thinking wtf?', I realise its the book thread ffs.
But it now makes sense why infinite is annoyed at a few things. Hes mentioning stuff about war and numbers etc which havent even been mentioned in the show, or brought up, or even existing...:wenger::wenger::wenger:

TBF, whilst I agree the dialogue and writing is not as good as the first four seasons, I think a lot of nit picking happens on this forum (and across the internet). I think most peoplpe who actually just watch it enjoy it and see it as a phenomenon. Its not confusing like Lost and some things are kept simple. I think plot conveniences do happen but its mostly to advance story which would otherwise be left in a lull if it was done in the same pace as the earlier seasons.

Oh damn, didnt even think of that. Thats quite messed up thing to have hanging over you (and thats despite coming back from the dead)

I have a feeling LF might know (though his interactions with Jon this season are kinda out of character for him - I would have thought he would try to butter up to him openly but sneakily position Sansa to take over behind his back).
Varys not sure.
Theres the Reeds father who surely knows right? Unless Ned kept it from him.
Bran is defo the only one that we know ... knows. So far.

Not sure how or what these two know about HISTORY per say. Like they have ears all over the realm CURRENTLY, but going back to the past, I am not sure how well they know that part.

What's Varys' issue with Melisandre? Why's he so keen on getting rid of her? And his face was a sight to behold when she told him they're both meant to die in Westeros.

Who is the other one? Madking was his grandfather and Ned fought to overthrow him right?

Well to be clear they mentioned one Maester who kept a record of every raven, let's not jump to conclusions about all of them being so good at records keeping. Plus you know scrolls get destroyed by nature, fire, etc. And did you watch the show when they showed Lyanna right after she gave birth? You can not assume anyone sent a raven anywhere announcing any such birth. It might have happened, it might not. Certainly Ned would have tried to block anyone sending word, but he might have failed at that.
There may be other recorded accounts or messages that give things away. Messages sent while she was still pregnant.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Yeah...compared to your dad making one mistake, him running away from his wife with someone he's rumoured to have abducted, and then continuing to fight against your family after his dad's slaughtered them is a bit fecked up. Daenerys was being a bit of an entitled shit in that episode there.

It's being suggested that Jaime's army, transporting the gold back to KL, will be ambushed by Daeny's army on the way back... so where have the Dothraki all been hiding? And I assume that this happens really close to KL itself because she'd be cutting it pretty tight to mobilize her army

She initially didn't want to use the Dothraki in Westeros due to the whole "foreign invader" stigma, but presumably with most of her allies fecked she'll now need to use them. So yeah, I'd guess she'll be pretty close to KL if that happens.

Who did the Madking over throw to become the King or does history not go so far back? Was he always in power?

The Targaryens had been in power for a couple of centuries after Aegon the Conqueror took the Seven Kingdoms. The Mad King was just next in line after his dad died.

Also is there any other way for the unsullied to get off Casterly Rock? Like is it an island where you need ships to get on and off or can you march through the lands to get there?

I'd think Jon would understand why Rhaegar fought for the Targs.

He'd understand why, but he's still going to be completely pissed that his dad was fighting for the person who slaughtered his family. It's a bit of a fecked up situation for him, and Daenerys demanding he bend the knee is kind of insulting.
