Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

Strange criticisms. Especially the one where nothing progresses until last episode. That seems more like something somebody would say who doesnt watch the show but reads a review online and is checking to see if thats true or not.

The show needs a new villain.

Cersei doesn't fit the bill.

Need another proper menace.

The show thrives on you having strong feelings about the characters. Do any characters evoke any strong feelings currently?

Maybe Euron this season? Can see it being him and causing issues around..

I think it may seem a lot slower than before as the show has expanded significantly over time. In the beginning, it was really just about Lannister vs. Starks. It has become so much bigger than that.

None of those are villains.

Sansa may become one I guess.

Jamie is likeable on the whole.

Need a Ramsey or Joffrey type psychopath.

It's supposed to be Euron I think. He's not coming across as particularly menacing yet though.

I dont want to be some sort of hipster by criticising a show that so many like, but it really isnt as good as others I have seen.

Take this last episode, for instance, I feel like nothing happened. Jon Snow spoke to his sister. Sam spoke to some old guy. Bran spoke to that knights watch guy. Khaleesi spoke to no one. The incest Lannisters spoke to each other, too. A whole lot of talking yet no action. But Ed Sheeran sang a few lines.
Because it set up the story lines for the season. To me you have to take the season as a whole as none of the episodes are meant to be stand alone stories.

GRRM loves turning villains into heroes and vice versa. The only major exceptions are Danaerys, the Starks and Cersei (so far). It wouldn't surprise me if any or all those switched between being goodies/baddies. Sansa and Arya are already heading that way. Danaerys is showing hints, too.

Euron looks like a fun character so far. I hope he's not a bit part this season.

Only on GoT can a guy, who pushes a 10 year old out a tower window for catching him humping his sister/queen and then has sex with said sister/queen over their dead sons corpse, can be seen as likeable.

He may be on a redemtion arc but Jaime is anything but likeable imho... He has a certain kind of honour, ie.. not killing Ned after one of the KG stabbed him in the leg.

Euron will be the new Ramsey/Joffrey doing all kinds of totally crazy half Jack Sparrow half Ramsey stuff to try and win over Cersei.

And that sex scene oer the dead sons corpse seemed more like a rape than consensual.

Night King being classed as a badguy is questionable to me. :P

He killed the 3 eye raven FFS, of course he's bad!

The trailer was a big spoiler to everything that's likely to happen in the next couple of episodes:
Jon somehow gets wind of Dany's arrival and he wants to make her an ally in the war. Mel meets up Danny and says she has a role to play with someone else (presumably Jon?). Euron brings some "gift" and Cercei now has ships too..so they can march on Highgarden (the Tyrell's)?

so basically Jon and Danny team up as expected to fight against the white walkers and team Cercei wants to march north against Winterfell to claim the "7 kingdoms" and eventually realize there's a "bigger war" and they all team up against the white walkers. I'm hoping this somehow changes between this season and the next. Otherwise GoT just becomes a "regular somewhat good vs somewhat evil" TV show :(

cersei would rather suck off the night king than team up with a stark or a targyrean

Plus he's only had about three scenes, which makes it hard to care about him.

To be fair in his three scenes he's killed his brother, survived drowning and tried to kill his niece and nephew, and dropped one of the best one liners of the entire series and completely embarrassed Janie

And wants to get married to the evil queen of the 7 kingdoms. As well as promising to get something for her (which should make us hate him, right?)

Though if its sandsnakes related, I could see a lot of people liking him for it

I was going to hold out till the end of the series and watch them all in one go but succumbed yesterday and watched Ep. 1. Wished I hadn't now. So much being set up now for the rest of the series. The Arya Stark bit at the beginning was great. I'm going to dip out again and definitely wait till the end. Thankfully the football season starts soon to keep me distracted. Just have to avoid all GoT talk so won't be back here again. It's looking good though. :)

I'd love to be able to do that. The problem is if something huge happens in one of the episodes, avoiding that spoiler becomes next to impossible if you enjoy spending time on the internet. Like Jon's resurrection or Hodor's death last season. No way could I have lasted the entire season without having those two spoiled for me.

Well to be fair. I hadn't heard so much as a sniff up till now and I don't really watch much mainstream TV and I'm not a casual internet browser. I even forgot GoT started last week. I'm sure I can avoid all contact for the next 7 weeks or so. Will be hard but reckon I can make it. Will be awesome watching the drama unfold in one hit. Can't wait. :)

The second episode hopefully builds the story in a quicker way. 2nd and 3rd will determine where everyone is headed.
