Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

I'm not sure what I make of that episode. I liked Arya stalking Meryn Trant, and Stannis' scenes even though he's a bastard for killing Shireen. The ending though, just seemed quite poorly done. Dragon turns up to save the day, cool, but after flaming a few it just stands there getting spears chucked at it before Dany flies away leaving her friends behind. And the green screen was shocking at certain points, probably blew too much money on the previous episode.

On a side note, the unsullied seem to be pretty crap at fighting considering they were raised for the sole purpose of being soldiers.

I can't believe the Dragon is named Drogon. Couldn't she have come up with something better like Dave?

Isn't that because of Carl Drogo?

I'm with RedSky though, Dave would have been better. 3 Dragons, Dave, Bob and Shirley.

What in the absolute feck, Stannis you horrible cnut  I knew his transformation into a likeable fellow was too good to be true. Ser Davos is gona' be piiiiiised!

I think he knew what would happen when he was being sent to run the errand at Castle Black. I was rooting for Stanis too. Onto Team Daenerys & Tyrion now...

I think Daenerys might have been flying off to save Drogon rather than herself. The Sons Of The Harpy had been all but defeated and were only sticking around to get a final shot at the queen or her dragon. Tyrion and co would have been able to take care of themselves by that point.

She was probably just flying off to get into a better aerial attack position. Dragon was getting his ass kicked on the ground and was too dumb to fly and burn them from high all by himself.

Am I the only one who fails to see what was so special about the Unsullied, apart from their tasteful costumes? It just seems that they are unable to protect anyone anywhere and can be easily overpowered by ...pretty much anyone. When introduced to Daenerys, they are described as the elite warriors battle trained since they were children. Yet any wanker wearing a golden mask can pretty much have their way with them. They're like Arsenal of Essos - overrated, easy on the eye and can never deliver when it matters.

 This show is fantastic.
Stannis is an absolute twat, hope he gets Ramsay'd soon. The battle scene with dragon was absolutely epic despite it being obvious that the dragon was going to save the day.

Last week the Wildling woman got killed after telling her daughter she'd join her on the boat soon. This week Shireen got killed after Ser Davos told her they'd be meeting up again soon. It's all been very 'Hollywood'. Next week Brienne and Stannis are going to fall in love after hating each other initially.

Yeah I thought similar, though to be fair they were ambushed and looked heavily outnumbered as that second wave of Sons made their way into the arena. Daenerys seems to have taken for granted the control she has and the amount of guards she needs around her there.

They seem to be ambushed easily and regularly and get killed without putting much of a fight. For all we know, they've spent most of their time in Astapor gambling and drinking instead of going through military training.

Tbf, it'd be more "hollywood" if Shireen was saved somehow at the last second. I was actually a little surprised they went through with it. Killing little girls on tv takes some balls.

feck that. Episode 8 was great but that was just doing something for shock factor.. Doesn't fit in at all with how Stannis has been the whole time too.

Ehh, it kinda does. They've being hinting since season three (or four?) that Shireen would be sacrificed. He's had his brother killed & his in laws burned at the stake. It's only being this season it seemed he was turning a corner, but nope, he can't come back from that.

Now I don't give a shit if he's killed when he marches on Winterfell.

It actually reminded me of Ivanov's argument in Darkness At Noon. If you truly believe that creating the future you want to create will be a better outcome for millions, the there is no act that can't be justified to bring it about. What is one life compared to those of every person living south of the wall?

If you believe in a society with strong individual rights, you obviously think that no one has the right to make that decision for someone else. But if you are a soviet communist or a feudal king, you probably don't share that worldview.

Nah, fits him perfectly. He's willing to do whatever it takes to get to the Iron Throne. Never mind the fact the dickhead locks his daughter up in a dungeon because of her face. Stannis is a miserable cnut.

Every season though he was always saying everything for his daughter, how much he loves her, never to even mention her, always protecting her... Now that 20 men go and burn his food he changes his mind so quickly?

Initially I thought his thinking was along the lines of "well we'll all likely die anyway if we don't appease the gods so she might as well die for a reason". Then I remembered that he had the opportunity to let her go back to The Wall with his Hand where she'd at least be safe. He kept her there because he intended to sacrifice her.

It makes it very difficult to root for his army now even though it's going up against the Boltons.

Aye, in season 3 he was on the verge of sacrificing Gendry and he asked "what is the life of one bastard boy against a kingdom?", to which Davos relied "everything". The principle is the exact same I guess, it's just Davos wasn't about to stop him this time.

I knew that people complaining about the slow season were going to have their heads turned by the end of it

And no, that's nothing to do with book-reading.

Pretty obvious that the dragon was going to save the day, but I did not expect how bad-ass it would be.

As someone else pointed out, making everyone evil is just making the show boring. Whose cause for the throne do we support? I never like Danaerys and now everyone else is evil. I'm sure they're restricted by the book but I wish they deviated from it. Like really, who will we support in the battle of the north? regardless, Stannis is bound to win now because of that huge sacrifice he made.

The White Walkers are lot more than that. Surely you've noticed that throughout the season and the previous episode.

Yes but I find more depth in acquiring the iron throne. The whole white walker thing is too straightforward. For some reason it doesn't excite me. It's not like the white walkers will win and take over all of westeros, there would be no story then. It's going to be a struggle but somehow John Snow and Co will hold them off/protect the kingdom losing some of the nights watch/wildlings. I see no other outcome.

Maybe.

I think Littlefinger will wait till one of them has won and then butcher the remaining survivors. He's a clever one that Littlefinger.

Daario is the Legolas of this series. But feck me that Stannis scene.

I'm pretty sure that most people who complained about the slow pace were expecting it to pick up.

I wish Doran (the king of Dorne) would attack King's Landing and take the throne for himself. He's probably the most just figure in Westeros. I grew so much respect for him this episode, he truly is a great ruler. Even his son Trystane seems to be just and raised right. What's also interesting is that Daenerys is his sister-in-law, she'll probably have Dorne's backing if she ever get's to Westeros.

The daughter getting burned was pretty disturbing to say the least, those screams. I heard the worst way to kill someone is to burn them alive.

How is Daenerys Doran's sister in law?

Jon, Arya and Tyrion are still backable.
