Television Game of Thrones (TV) • The watch has ended

So after last week, I had sort of assumed that Hardhome was the peak of season 5 and the last two episodes would be dealing with the fallout from ep8.
Then I had a look at the episode list on Wikipedia. David Nutter directed the next two episodes.

Last time he directed on the show?

Episodes 9 and 10 of season 3 and the red fecking wedding!

I've been thinking about it, and I reckon that might be the best battle scene I've ever scene on either TV or film. Up there with Saving Private Ryan if you include all the drama and build-up. It was certainly better than any of the cartoon-ish nonsense you got in the Lord Of The Rings movies.

That one scene in true detective where
they enter the projects
.
that was more of a cinematic achievement than a 'battle scene' though, certainly one of the best sequences ever produced for TV, though.

I still can't get over the CGI in it, it was flawless. I know GoT has a big budget for a TV show, but when you consider shit like The Avengers cost $250m to make, it really is quite an achievement.

I was more impressed with the way it was structured than the actual CGI. It flowed through the different beats of the fight (build up, the attack, the defence, the cut to the horsemen, the fight in the house, white walker killed, avalanche of the dead, retreat, head white walker raises the dead) in a very neat and fluid way. Made the whole sequence coherent even while a load of mad stuff was happening in a location we didn't really know. Very well choreographed and crafted.

feck sake, I clicked on the book thread by mistake and read one or two spoilers before I realised it was the wrong thread.

That was a great episode, hopefully the end of the season can make up for how disappointing its been overall. Easily the best episode I can remember from the last 2-3 series.

You seen the new Mad Max?

Edit: Although I guess you're talking more swordfighty things yeah?

Episode 9 is usually the best episode of the season, so I'm really excited to see what they have to top the last 20 minutes of this week. It really was tremendous viewing, imo, the best battle scene I've seen since Spartacus' finale.

I also think the next episode will be the best one. Might not see the same exhilirating fight scenes, but I reckon something shocking and significant is going to happen.

It will be very difficult for anything to shock and surprise me like the battle of Hardhome, because of the way it seemingly came out of nowhere. I am already expecting/anticipating battle of Winterfell. Only dragons can wow me further than the last episode.

Surely we are going to see some action with Cersei, and maybe some poisoning by Arya.

Also pit fighting with Ser Friendzone.

No idea where the Danerys or Bronn storyline is going though.

Isn't Dany supposed to marry some noble from Mereen ? It could get bloody.

She had started a Kickstarter campaign to help fund an animal conservation group...

Back OT: hope to see some dragons this episode. Something's gotta happen in Mereen with Tyrion there now.

Do the names of the television episodes count as book spoilers now?
Somebody should tell my Sky box.

Not everyone wants to see them. If its not been shown in an episode then don't talk about it. Easy rule.

Well its a spoiler isn't it given that it tells you something about the episode! Why would you even look at it on your skybox? Why not just press play and enjoy spoiler free? I piss on your episode name with my vanilla tainted valyrian sword.

I blame the producers tbh. Why would you name an episode 'The Mountain and the Viper' when the main focus of the previous episode is discovering which two characters will be in the trial by combat.

Think they also showed a bit of them fighting in the season preview.

Yep. One of the most stupid things to do. I avoided all trailers/previews/future news after last year.

Yeah, GoT is one of the worst in this regard.

Leave him alone wiki boy.

Like you don't know what the last 2 episodes are called.
