So he watched his cousin and studied him, but he couldn't find an answer. His cousin represents death and the beetles, people. Tyrion has watched people crushed en masse his entire life, whole towns and villages destroyed. And to what end? His cousin was the kid with the magnifying glass and Tyrion's turn as the ant is coming. Tyrion wants to think there's some purpose for everything, some purpose for his death, and now, as he faces his own end, he still doesn't have an answer. I thought it was heartbreaking.
