He could be like Henry. Henry started of as a winger and slowly learnt how to play as a striker. Could work. Anyway, i am liking what i'm seeing at the moment.

IIRC when his signing was announced people had already likened his style to that of Henry. He certainly has the style and raw qualities, and I'd be thrilled if he became half of what Henry became.

Undoubtedly has the talent. It's just about showing the kind of fire he did the other day when he came on. Technically he's got the ability and surprisingly he can pick a pass too. I can see him becoming a class player. Depends on his mental strength. Would be great to have a few more attacking options to rely on.

ha - twas the clash of the domes

No contest.

Obertan was once called 'alien' by a pundit! If I was walking down a deserted street and Obertan and Silvestre's alien heads confronted me together, I think I'd genuinely run for my life.

if you saw Obertan in mufti, say, in town and somebody said: "he's a footballer".........

He's got a good few years to improve and he is henry like. People have mentioned welbeck who I thought linked up well with Obertan in pre season. It looks good, I hope Obertan starts next game because he has a dynamic few have and he is as quick as anything.

I wonder what Blanc's opinion of him is now......

Probably the same as it was when he sold him: the guy has talent, but big doubts over whether he has the mentality to be a top player.

And I'd agree with that personally. I'm still to be convinced he's nto just someone like Jérémie Aliadière who had great skills but could never seem to make the most of them consistently.

To be more specific I wonder does he think the lad has developed much compared to his time under Blanc. Always felt his comments were a tad strange, never really went into much detail on him. Maybe its just me!!

Obertan has played very, very few games for us, mostly because of the large array of injuries and other wingers he's had to put up with. He's turning out incredibly well, in spite of injury and competition.

Don't know how much more we could have possibly expected of him up until this point.

Obertan ready to show his best

Gabriel Obertan believes he is ready to unleash his best form for club and country after he was recalled to the France Under 21 squad.

Obertan, 21, was plucked from obscurity when Manchester United signed him from Bordeaux in 2009, following a loan spell at Lorient.

A serious back injury restricted his impact at Old Trafford and he was plagued by self-doubt while sidelined.

Yet, the player has enjoyed a surge in confidence after scoring in the Champions League against Bursaspor early this month.

United

"When I came to United I knew that it would be very difficult, I didn't join an average Premier League club," Obertan told L'Equipe.

"I came from nowhere, from a loan at Lorient that didn't really go that smoothly, so I could not expect to come here and replace key members of the team straight away.

"After my injury, I had a lot of talks with the coaches and Ole Gunner Solskjaer (former reserve team manager). They told me to relax as I have the quality needed to be a success here and that I shouldn't doubt myself.

"When you see players like Scholes or Giggs working hard in training and competing with the young players, it spurs you on.

"And when Giggs, who plays in the same position as me, gives you advice, you know you will improve."

Goal
The strike against Bursaspor has also been noted by Sir Alex Ferguson, who along with the rest of the squad and coaches, is beginning to see the confidence of Obertan blossom.

And the young winger, who felt a bit like the forgotten man at Old Trafford, is determined to get them all talking about him again.

"After my goal against Bursaspor, things are really starting to look up for me. Sir Alex Ferguson has been talking to me a lot more too and giving me more advice," he added.

"All that I went through has helped me to build and develop my character. Two months ago I was down in the dumps because I was injured and thought no-one cared about me anymore.

"I don't want to feel like that anymore and I want to repay the people that had the faith to bring me here."

The White Silvestre is coming along nicely. He looks way more solid than when he first arrived. I think he is going to become a very useful player for us whether that be playing as cover for Rooney or on the left. I think through the middle is his best place but I think he has shown enough hunger recently to oust Park on the left for a while!

I think the Ronaldo comparisons are very premature, but he could definitely turn out to be a good player for us. I say good and not great because lets face it, a lot of players come and go and they very rarely turn out to be really world class. He should still become a solid first teamer for us however, and you cant ask more than that.

I guess that reflects the psychological flaws Larry Blanc alluded to. He just sprained his ankle, for crying out loud. It wasn't like he was doing a Hargreaves and spent a year in rehab. "No one cared about me anymore". Wtf?

Here's hoping his mental strength continues to improve at a pace with the rest of his game. The boy's got skills.

Don't know why Park has to the casualty each time we have a supposed great player on our hands?

Did he play for the u21s against Russia? If so, how did he do?

That was my reaction to the comment. Makes him across as extremely fragile mentally. And to be honest, it does at times show on the pitch.

I guess it is better than players who sometimes have their heads elsewhere with the temptations that come to them early.

Belief and mental strength, if he finds them the way players who do well under fergie always do, will bee the making of him IMO.

Let me just Google that for you...

..he said, revealing not only a painful lack of originality, but also a misguided belief that English match reports with player ratings from French u21 games are somehow easy to come by.

ha ha, exactly what I thought, I tried googling it when I read your post but couldn't find anything except lots of clips of the goal. Misguided indeed. :)

Very poor today. I'd rather give Bebe his playing time. At least Bebe is not so tentative and lacking in confidence.

I thought Obertan did alright - his decision-making was suspect, but he did look lively at times. To be fair, the whole team was under par today.

I still dont know what to make of him, he looks lively enough on the ball and is eager to try those difficult through balls but rarely does he threaten. Hes still young and learning but to me he doesnt have that special quality that i saw in (say) Nani.

He wasn't as bad as Nani, who had a shocker today. Nothing went right for him. But yes, improvement on crossing please.

And started the match quite well i thought.

Long long way to go. He and Kiko should stay as impact subs.

And he needs to learn passing the ball first time, not receiving it and thinking of a dribble everytime.

Seemed good until the final ball from what I saw. That'll come with time.

I thought he was alright.
Not good, but he needs games and he'll only learn from today

some decent moves

:lol::lol: Some people are unreal.

That was pretty retarded.

Some of the 'fans' on these boards have no patience and seem to expect youngsters to be the finished article straight away. I'd also like to know who people rate as good crossers in the league because all of our wingers seem to be criticised in this part of their game, it's not as easy as it looks.
