Gaa 2013

Typical Dubs. No grá for the small ball even though it's your best chance of an All-Ireland this year. If Brogan and co. were playing today, this thread would be hopping.

Justice for the Dublin hurlers.

We're better off anyway.

Dublin could find it very tough today after 5 weeks out. There must be some way to tighten up the qualifiers so the provincial winners don't wait so long. Roscommon in 01 waited 7 weeks to play their quarterfinal . This year, the provincial winners only had 2/3weeks which is just about right.

I think Cork will win but it should be a right one today.

The Peter Kelly/Pat Horgan and Paul Ryan/Shane O'Neill battles will be vital. Whomever comes out on top here will go along way towards winning. If Dublin can drag Cork down to their level, they'll win. Cork would prefer a more open game as their hurling is superior all over the field.

Should be fascinating, whatever happens.

Come on the Dubs. They'll take it by a couple of points. This year is their chance, don't think they'll blow it.

Goal for the Dubs! Get the feck in.

Haven't seen such a tight match like this....tit-for-tat since the 2002 semi between Tipp and Kilkenny. This should be a fantastic second half.

Well Jaysus, you'd feel sorry for the Community Shield. Hard to compete with that. What a half, brilliant stuff from both teams. Hard to call.

As Ger Loughnane said, 0-15 1-11 could be a final score...and its only halftime. Jesus, when this game loosens up, we could see a massive final scoreline.

Just seen my message from Crackers offering me a free ticket.

Disgusted.

Feck it. Was out dealing with the bleedin kids.

Its a pity if a bad refereeing decision decides this. That;s the 39th score of the match. I think Kilkenny-Waterford in 2008 holds the record 3-30 1-13...though that might be the total points scored.

Should have been a red card for Rushe. Cowardly decision.

Now that one was definitely a red.

Marty is all over the place.

''no goal conceded''

''cork full forward scored 11 against kerry and 8 versus cork''

Was just saying here that Cronin should have played that down the wing.....but Cork profitted from it anyway.

Very poor from the Dublin keeper. 44 scores.

What a game. That 70 minutes flew in. Brillent, brillent game, as Loughnane will say.

*Clare involved in 2 games this year with 48 scores.

Only one "scrum" the whole game. Most free flowing game for years.

Complaining about the referee is immaterial seeing as Rushe should have definitely got the line for his wild pull on Horgan. Cork were the better hurling team and thoroughly deserved their win. Peter Kelly was poor by his high standards and I felt he allowed Horgan in far too easily for his goal. He offered Maguire no protection whatsoever. Paul Ryan had a nightmare, too. Keaney hurled well in fits and spurts but he was one of the few Dublin forwards who offered a threat.

Cork won midfield hands down as well and their energy and work-rate set the tone for Cork's play. Dublin were very disappointing in this area of the field considering they were impressive in this regard against Kilkenny and Galway.

Cracking game. Was at a christening so trying to watch the game over a crowd of heads. Disappointed with the result but sure it will spur on the hurlers to go that bit further next year. Still a great championship and to be pipped by an up an coming and very skillfull cork side with a brilliant goal keeper isn't any reason to feel disappointed.

Dragging them down to the level of a team who beat Kilkenny and Galway en route to claiming a Leinster title? WUM :)

Jesus lads, don't be giving me false hope that Tyrone have a good chance. Not this far away from the game anyway because any little spark of light and I'll get myself all worked up.

With O'Neill I think it's a combination of things. He was flying in the League, especially towards the end but that counts for little come the championship. He's been double and triple marked which is partly our own fault when we only play a two man full forward line to accommodate McMahon playing as sweeper. He's getting targeted for a lot of abuse both verbals and physical, but a man of his experience shouldn't be losing the head but he seems to be reacting more than ever before. The quality of ball into him has been pathetic, and finally as a result of him not getting enough decent ball in he's not been afforded enough good chances to get his form back so it's dragging on.

If we could sort out one of those problems then I think the rest could fall into place and that's why I'd take the chance at pushing Cavanagh up at the start to play with O'Neill.

Moving Cavanagh in really weakens you around the middle and I wouldn't do that either with O'Shea in the kind of form he's in.

I don't see anything wrong with what I said in any if that post, chief. Cork won the personal battles in both of the match-ups I highlighted and they proved critical. Paul Ryan had a nightmare and Pat Horgan gave Kelly a torrid time of it. In relation to the "their level" quote, you know I was referring to the physical context of the game. Dublin did try to bring Cork into a physical duel in the hope it would disrupt Cork's fluent hurling and it nearly worked. Dublin's seven-man defence is as negative a tactic I've seen in the inter-county game and I'm glad Cork's superior hurling rose above it.

My issue was not with the "their level" part of the comment but the "Dragging them down." I think that was the fastest game of hurling I've seen for a long time and open too from both sides. I didn't see many negatives although the Dublin lads played physically I think the Cork lads matched them and in the end had more naturally talented lads. That and Ryan's meltdown didn't help but I certainly didn't think Cork were a level above Dublin or that Dublin employed Stoke like tactics to bring a superior team down. It must be said that this Dublin side has beaten Kilkenny and Galway en route to this semi final and if they were at a poorer level than Cork then either of those teams would have disposed of them. I think you do them a disservice by saying they tried to stifle Cork and I think the 5 week break stopped some of their momentum while Limerick's defeat of Cork in the Munster final gave them a few games they needed to gel.

Not trying to take away from what Dublin has achieved this year but Dublin beating Galway shouldn't be used to show how far they've come. Dublin were a few levels above that Galway team even before there was a ball pucked in this years championship and the main reason they were was because Dublin played as a team, the Galway lads couldn't put their club differences behind them when they put on the county jersey this year, rival club players not talking, not passing the ball to one another in training, the St. Thomas's lads wouldn't even travel with the rest of the panel on the team bus down to Thurlas for the Clare match they drove down in two cars, it's rumored a few of them had to be pulled back from tearing lumps out of one another at a night at the dogs before the Dublin match.

A pure disgrace especially when you consider there is easily enough talent there or within the county to win an All-Ireland or two in the next 5 odd years. Sadly though due to the hatred and rivalry that's gone out of control in the club scene the chances are pretty high now that the current set up will never win one and that'll be a shame, especially for the likes of Joe Canning. If Anthony Cunningham steps down I hope who ever comes in drops all the feckers that's causing trouble and let them focus on the club scene if that's all they care about. They clearly didn't give a shit about the county team this year nor the supporters.

That's really sad tbh. I always thought that if I even had the talent to be a good club player I'd be dedicated to the cause let alone be good enough to go down in your counties history as an all Ireland winner. Defies belief.

Jesus, BP, I'd no idea things were so bad. Would you like to see Cunningham go so?

A great manager when it comes to the tactical and technical side of the game, he showed that last year and in his successful stint in football management with Westmeath's Garycastle and Roscomman's St. Brigids as well. But he clearly lost the Galway dressing room earlier on this year and couldn't win it back. He's a St.Thomas's man which probably explains why he didn't tell those players that wouldn't board the team bus to stay at a home altogether then that's what a proper manager would have done, he either hadn't got the balls to do it or he was simply in his own head taking sides the latter is what I'd be more afraid of. On the other hand who out there would be capable of coming in to what is a pure minefield now and sorting things out. To make things worse with the way the club championship is shaping up there'll be another chapter or two to the story yet, especially if St.Thomas's and Portumna meet and it's looking like they will in the final, the last time they met before the Laois game Joe Canning was lucky he was able to walk off the pitch at all with the going over he got. It wasn't the first time Canning was on the end of such thuggery either, he nearly quit the game in 06 after what the Loughrea lads did to him, I was at that match and I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it made national headlines the following day. No wonder he looked like he lost all interest against Clare, carrying a shower of feckers that couldn't give a flying feck about anyone but themselves for so long would wear down or get the better of any man eventually, even Joe.
