Gaa 2010

Tyrone vs Down. Ulster final 2003. The first drawn game was brilliant.
2 totally contrasting styles going hammer and tongs at each other with a scoreline of 1-17 to 4-08. If you cant enjoy that then your looking at the wrong sport.

Hammer and tongs being the operative word. Match was full of niggly frees and off the ball incidents. Pathetic stuff dished out again by Ulster Football.

Its sad to see a team with such great attacking talents and traditions as dublin resort to a style of play that they dont have the players for. Dropping an extra man permenantly into the half back line will never suit them.

The blanket defence seems to be in vogue at the moment. When one team sees another succeeding with it then they seem to automatically think that employing it will bring them the same or at least similar success.

But anyway, I'm a Kerry supporter so I was pleased with the way we played last week (I know it's Tipp, but still). Things are looking good at the moment for us despite the loss of 5 of our panel from last year. The only worry I'd have is if we get some injuries: there isn't the same strength in depth as in recent years. Barry John Wash hasn't progressed as expected and wasn't even in the panel for the Tipp game. Also, if Mike McCarthy or Seamus Scanlon got injured we'd be in real trouble, I think.
Plus, the new 'keeper looks suspect under the high ball so that might be another worry.

Cannot believe someone would type such utter shite.....

I'm very much part of the GAA set up in Belfast. I'll be taking my kids to see Antrim on Sunday. The last good game I have seen played by a team from the North was when my TV black & white.

Derry v Down in 1994 is widely acclaimed as being the finest match ever shown live on TV. I admit negativity is rampant in football but it is not confined to Ulster. Living in Belfast is making you a bitter man Baz and in that hole I can understand

I'll be keeping a close watch on the Meath Offaly game today. I might even do a free count for Baz, Cos Meath is really a dirty team. Always have been, and always will be.

Ay CL. They were strong in the midfield in the second half. However I believe if the score had have been closer Tyrone may not have been so laid back in the second half. Tyrone were always gonna do just enough.

Poor super Dooher did look fecked after the game yesterday. Hopefully just a lack of match fitness and the weather not age finally catching up.

Congrats to the auld Guard of Armagh & Tyrone, getting over 2 very sticky hurdles in Derry & Antrim. Both teams deserved to win their respective games, both could easily end up as Ulster Champs.

With due respects to both Cavan & Fermanagh, Any of the other 5 could win it!

I know the 2 games so far were not classics, but our dear old friends on RTE panel & indeed the mainstream southern media did not take long to "put the boot in", God bless them don't we just love 'em! Still, hearing the Sunday Game tune gets the pulse racing !

I am convinced we will see some "crackers" in Ulster this year, starting next Sun. I am really looking fwrd to Armagh v Mon. on Sun week!

Predicted Monaghan before the start and I feel this is your year, by the way anyone see RHD?

No way would I write Tyrone off, nor Kerry either! one of them could well win Sam!.... and I d'ont think you could classify both in "Darkhorse" territory, due to recent success'.
I think Tyrone & Kerry will possibly be coming through the qualifier route( if following my Provincial predictions). If Tyrone avoid an early round "sucker-punch", they will gain serious momentum!

Based on the first-half with a bitta improvement still needed - potentially:

Based on the 2nd half when the foot was off the gas:

Happy enough with the result tho & we showed good movement in the first-half & we can only keep improving. Also, anything that'll rub shit in "Bakers" (Antrim managers nickname) face is always a great thing. That fecker does more slabbering than one of these lads:

Derry were not bad yesterday they were awful and alot of my fears were realised. Our panel is a disgrace full of players who look like they are going through the motions. It was obvious last week that the management had lost the dressing room when a punch up resulted in one of our players required stitches to his eye, both players started yesterday, both should have been sitting at home IMHO. There is no end in sight to Derrys slippery slope especially with the present squad and management, the first quality team we meet in the qualifiers will thankfully put us out of our misery

How'd they lose the dressing room?

Sure its the same kip in the same spot as always at Celtic Park:

Messing bastard :D

Black & White TV's?

We couldnt even afford the luxury of Black & White Tv's. We might have tho if the "Free State" hadnt abandoned its Northern brothers & sisters back in 1922 :smirk:

Met Seamus last Sat in Super Value in Castleisland - sound bloke!

I had a few jars on me after watching the Play-off final in The Blasket pub in Tralee. I told him i'm from Tyrone - he shit himself & ran away because he thought he was surrounded :smirk:

I said he was excellent last year (which he was) & I followed that up by callin him the "unsung hero"!

Word of advice lads, dont talk to sports people when you're on the beer & they're not, because you can very well be regarded as a:

I really think at this junction of the year - If your team is not in the Championship - You should refrain from posting on this thread.

A qualifier thread is in order for those people.

Derry Football - Don't make me laugh

Did you watch that game...

How did Meath play?

I'm from Westmeath btw. Bit like saying someone from Canada is a Yank. An Insult

Here I am :D

Good to see you RHD, cocky as ever I see. The mess you depicted of the Derry dressing room is actually getting worse and there are rumours we may have a betting scandal next. We are hoping we dont get Antrim in qualifiers as defeat there would really be a disaster and at the minute they would beat us. We would prefer Westmeath as we always beat them. Only winding Baz, cheer up for gods sake, time you were out of Belfast

Decent hard fought win for Down there. But the football on view was pretty poor.

Saying that Benny Coulter was awesome from the second half onwards.

Decent ball player that fella.

Aye, all right. Meath were unusually clean, and i'll give you the Donegal Down match was a load of shit.

I hadn't a clue where you were from when i said that originally. I just dont like meath!!

Coulter is a legend of a player. One of the best in the country with no All-Ireland medal.

Who's the best players in the country with no all-ireland?? Should be easy enough to pick 15 men saying as very few current players outside of Tyrone and Kerry have medals.

Good win for Down awful match though. The extra time was enjoyable and I must say I think there is improvement left in Down, a chance of Ulster I reckon

Alright ma man, good to hear from you too brother

Feel sorry for ya regarding the Derry soap-opera, what the feck is goin on with that bunch? feckin mental carry-on. You need Baker in there man. I've said that before, but thats what you need. Those lads need a major kick up the arse, not just in football terms either. They're lettin down the County & especially the dedicated fans like yourself!

You've the basis of a good team there, i dont know what the problem is but its ruining Derry Gaelic Football & thats something that doesnt give me any pleasure one bit. I grew up with Derry football so this is a shit scenario & pretty fecking depressing for the fans!

I didnt mind the football on show tbh man. I'm pretty biased tho, but I enjoy the physicallity of it. I'm just glad there's footie on the tv - cant beat the Championship & the smell of burgers at Crokers

Benny was class in the second-half alright. He was the difference between the teams & he's gettin better with each passing year. He puts Marty Clarke well in his box. Excellent player but pretty anonymous yesterday. Looked like he wanted to shoot off to Oz & shag kangaroo's :D

Baker? god forbid and anyway there is no chance of that and if we have any hope of climbing out of this hole we need to get rid of his siblings as well. Great players as they are they are causing too many problems within the panel. John Brennan and Henry Downey are supposedly nailed on and are capable of doing a job. However talent is now a major problem in Derry

Well done the Red and Black! The Mourne Men are back :)

The red hand commandos are going down next :D

Congrats man, was really pleased for ya's & of course your goodself. Should be a good game against us boys - prepare yourself for a spanking from the mighty Red Hands tho. We were plannin on handin out cans of whoop-ass & lolly-pops - but word on the street is that we're all out of lolly-pops :D

He's a feckin weirdo alright - hate the fecker for all the shitin on he did in the run up to our match with Antrim last week. He reminds me of Art McRory - another mentalist

The Bradley's causing probs - feckin hell man. Is there no end to the Derry saga!
