Our season certainly doesn’t depend on it, but I do feel he transforms our play from deep when he signs, and I think I’m far more confident of silverware however minor this season with him than without.

That's the thing, it's really not. He has said he'd rather stay at Barca, that much is true, but he's never said he's against leaving. He's never turned round and said he's no intention of leaving at all. It's been papers like Sport and Revelo that have said that.
Is it true? We don't know. We can only go by what they're saying and it's my opinion that they're looking at past interviews and coupling it with the fact that he's said nothing recently and thinking he's still of that stance.
On the other hand, there are reports that he's really upset with how Barca are treating him. Understandable really. Will that have him questioning his future? He knows now that he's not really wanted, and Barca want him to take a pay cut, which he doesn't need to take. He can stay, but the circus will be back next summer, or maybe even in January. He has no future there that much is clearly obvious.
Plus there's the fact that we don't know what's said behind closed doors. The media aren't privy to everything. The only ones who know are ten Hag, Barca, United, Frenkie and his agent. We don't know what's said between them all and we never will. De Jong could end this in seconds with an interview saying "I have no intention of leaving Barca and I'm very hopeful of a resolution to ensure my future lies with them" just question why he's not done that yet

If I'm being honest, I think this has become more than a transfer chat now, it's literally like a group of friends chatting about de Jong and Brokealona.
