The 17m issue seems to be more nuanced, according to Graham Hunter.

He talks about the issue from around 11:40 onwards:

Gist was, that FDJ and his agent are still negotiating how much would be paid and the time period over which the money would be paid.

FFS. How long does it take to negotiate? After weeks of this sh** both parties should now know what the other wants. For this to drag on any further can only mean that either one.or both parties, are unwilling to budge.

That sounds pretty reasonable, buy again it's something we have to take at face value because there's so much crap being pumped out its very hard to know what's true and what's not... if anything is true for that matter

also, the idea he’s thinking about “toughing it out and seeing it through” is clearly opinion. If Barca and his agents are locked in negotiations for his payout, as Hunter says, he’s in a much better position threatening to stay put and “tough it out”.

So how come they still owe him 17 Million?
That amount was agreed too to be deferred during the Covid time span and paid later.
The later is now and they don't want to pay him.

They have started paying him.

His salary will have increased dramatically for this season, and through to the end of his contract in 2026.

It was never meant to be a lump sum.

The fact they are, it seems, pushing him out means he will never see most of it, unless he makes a stand!

Absolutely, and for Barca him staying and toughing it out is the worst possible scenario in my opinion. They'd be stuck with a player on an obscene wage that they can't afford, don't really want and won't be happy with how he's been treated.

It's in Barcas best interests to get it sorted ASAP

Interesting perspective but they guy seems quite a bit pro-Barca.

Bloke is owed 17m tbf. Though tbf, I'm not sure how convinced he is to join us.
The only people who know that will be his agent and ten Hag. Pretty sure he's keeping his mouth shut with Barca too at the moment, as he wouldn't want to give them any kind of wiggle room in negotiations.

I respect the muppets still engaged in this one but I'm sad to say that I'm out.

You could be right TBF. You could also be wrong though, TBF.

Some players live in the city, Pep lives in the city.

Pep's a hipster. The whole Cheshire fat cat scene is far too cliche for him.

(Actually, I kind of respect the fact that he lives in the city - albeit in a luxury "aparthotel" or whatever they call it.)

I am astonished he played in the friendly today.

This does not seem very close at all

Yep

I've never for 1) seen a player go on tour after a transfer was accepted and 2) said player to be playing when there's £65m on the line.

Get Antony and Tielemans and call it a day we're getting the run around.

We've had our fair share of frustrating transfer sagas here over the years, but this one might just be the worst. So much uncertainty about whether the player actually wants to come here, the annoying issue with the large amount of money owed, and the fact that we don't seem to have any alternatives lined up.

Panic on the streets of Barca
Panic on the streets of Salford
I wonder to myself
Could life ever be sane again?
The Catalan side-streets that you slip down
I wonder to myself

Hopes may rise on twitter
But transfer muppets, you're not safe here
So you run down to the safety of the ‘caf.

Hang blessed Laporta
Because the BS that he constantly spouts
It says nothing to me about Frenkie
Come and Play for ten Hag
Because the football he is trying to play
On the Manc side-streets that you slip down
Make sure to run don’t just jog 'round

Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ
Frenkie DJ, Frenkie DJ

Plagiarist.

With football burglaries a thing. A lot of players/football names choose to live in modern apartments. Not fool proof, but there’s concierge, security, more people around, plus the social aspect is also better you have residential bars and restaurants that you can visit without getting harassed for autographs or selfies etc.

There is so much vocal press now about him categorically NOT wanting to join, is it even a good idea for him to join us anymore?

Please, please don't post this kind if sh*t when you all know this is just clickbait bullsh*t.

Fridge going from King Mupper to becoming a doomer is the most villainous character arc I’ve ever seen

Unless this whole thing is a ploy from Barcelona to prove to FDJ that he is expendable, so he'd better take a pay reduction down to a mere €150k per week....?!?!

Antony it's not a bad alternative use of FdJ money. Still need a cheaper mid though.

Ok. Cos 12 cantonas, Giggs will tear you apart, my only solskjaer, the Lukaku penis song and Oles At the wheel were all original compositions!

No, because I wrote the Frenkie De J chant about 800 pages back.

Will be the easiest chant ever if we sign him.

Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J!
Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J, Frenkie de J!

and so on.

Yeah, that's true.

I've always found it a bit odd that those who do live out in the country - seemingly - don't invest more in security.

I mean, they're absolutely loaded.

How much do you have to pay for 24/7 security? Perhaps I'm underestimating how much that actually costs.

This probably isn’t happening in my opinion. The lack of alternatives is what worries me. We have a good squad that can finish high with a good manager, aside from the midfield. With that midfield even Pep/Klopp would struggle for top 4 this season in my opinion. We absolutely need 2 midfield players otherwise we’re fecked.
