But he's earning much, much more and his wage doesn't justify his level of performance.
I agree, the gap between wages is much higher that the one between quality. But even if he's at the bench they'll still have to pay him. So it's would be a lose-lose situation for Barca.

For me, Ronaldo is detrimental to the team and how ETH wants the team to play. That's for another thread though.
Absolutely.

Back to Frenkie, the way I see it is there is nothing at the moment that tells me it's off. FdJ hasn't say anything recently. United haven't said anything to change my mind either. The only crap is coming from Spain and its already well known that Sport are talking crap most of the time

Chelsea is stocked in that position so why would they need to spend on FdJ? Its just people making crap up to fill in the dead space.
Oh I know.. that’s what I’m saying. I haven’t seen where we even want him. The only person who has mentioned us is his agent. I think he’s a fine player, but if there’s one position we DONT need at the moment it is his.

Now, if he were Declan ……

Yes they do have Pedri and Gavi who are great that's why they're willing to let Frenkie go. But I just don't see him being a rotation option, if he's stays he'll be starting. He's still a level above Gavi at least.

Like I said in a previous post, sure Barcelona could twist his arm by benching him but that would end up being worse for them.

I think they'll finally come to an agreement, but the clock is on Frenkie's side.
They are willing to do without him full stop. I don’t think they’d blink at benching him for a while together out.

Just my opinion on the transfer is all :)

I've been consistent in saying its bad news weather he signs or not.

Okay, but I get the feeling you don't want this deal to go ahead because you might look a bit silly if it does :p

There is a lot of confusing bullshit surrounding this transfer. All we know for a fact is that both clubs want this deal to happen and a fee has been agreed between them to that end. That's a major part of a transfer battle concluded in most cases.

I'm in no doubt he'd be a United player today if not for the deferred wages nonsense.

As I said 100 times already, this one is in the bag.

:nono: :nono:

What's funny was that I remember Fergie loved Declan years & years ago. But the Caf for years said... not sure what he sees in him. Overpriced!!

And I'm sure Ten Hag knows he'd rather stay but de Jong has also probably admitted to him that to stay he needs to take a pay cut and he doesn't want to do that. Therefor his only real option is to leave but he wants what he's owed.

It would make no sense for United to stick around of there was a high chance he stays, its a waste of everyone's time

Well my problem with that is Barcelona not acting desperate enough. They left the likes of Brathwaite and Umtiti behind from the tour, why not Frenkie? It’d send a message that he’s not wanted unless he takes a pay cut. I guess I’m just wary of Barcelona pulling some financial feckery and their “too big to fail” status in Spanish football to hack a solution out.

Would actually be cool if we do this for him.

Show him right from the start what it's like to be a United player and give him such a welcome.

Oh, I fully agree. If it wasn't for the wages and the transfer situation he'd be a starter there and benching him is going to hurt the club much more than the player.
If either FDJ or United call their obvious bluff and walk away from negotiations, they are completely fecked, which makes their strategy to force him out incredibly weird.

Doomers and negative Nancys who are sure it’s off and think they have the right to force that view on believers and rational folk.
It wont happen, you know we are right. Accept your fate and kneel before our superior wisdom.
You know deep down we are right....

This is what I'm most worried about. I believe he's settled on coming here if he can't stay in Barcelona on full pay - but I can just see these feckers pulling something out of the bag to keep him on a wage he'd be happy on. Like you said, as a power move.

That’s the point, we DONT know what will happen which is why it’s still interesting. For me though, still more reasons to be cheerful than otherwise so I keep believing a little longer thanks!;)

Will be interesting to see how quickly this moves if and when Barcelona agree to pay him... If it all falls into place quickly it'll be pretty safe to say that he never was against the move, if it drags on though it will play into the narrative that he really wasn't highly motivated to leave.

Ill come back here when he's signed.

Its way too hot to read through all this constant back and forth.

United might be muppets in recent years when it comes to transfer saga's but they are not so stupid as to waste months on a player that has not told them he's willing to move to United.

See you in 3 minutes when you eventually cave in.

They’ve also taken Memphis, and he is rumoured to be being moved on too. They have to be very careful they don’t give a case of constructive dismissal.

I expect from the Negative camp that, once FDJ comes to United, they write 'I'm sorry I was wrong' posts 10 times a day for about a month in various threads.

They also have to plan for the worst case scenario - in this sense him not leaving this summer. You are “paying” him to sit in Spain rather than go with the team and train as a team. His fitness is important - both if they decide not to sell him or if they decide to sell him he shouldn’t be injured. Training helps with that.

You should know by now. They just quietly disappear and pretend they weren’t part of the thread.

We'll see, Barca's desperate to take his wages out. But as of today the oficial Barca's version is they would love to keep him, they just can't due to financial problems.

Benching him to force him out would completely derail that version and would be bad publicity for them.

I think it's a chicken game between us and Barca. Who's willing to take it further, I think Barca's strategy is waiting out to see if either De Jong gives up the games or ManUtd pays them. Who's more desperate? Us for having him or Barca to get rid?

They're actually really lucky we are so obsessed with him. There's no other club that can afford him that's willing to go through all this shit circus.

Like you said, I would like for us to call their bluff. Let's see what Barca does.

Not sure you know, the fact they're getting 500m+ from this lever, they might look at it and think, pay de Jong what he's owed, get him off the books and there's one less thing to worry about. They can then look into getting Silva if that's their desire

Here is a very elaborate thread about Barca money issues.

I can not attach media yet.
Staff and Mods should at least make me a full member after this :D.

It opens even some lids on United finances.
Very good read.

Thanks for the link. Its very difficult to follow the exact position they have to be in with regard to the wages deficit, but it does add some more context surrounding Barca's situation.

It looks like after Lewandowski, that Azpilicueta will be next through the door - What I cant get my head around is how can Barca keep piling new players up to be registered knowing that they are already in a bad place with La Liga's salary cap, and may not be able to fulfil registering new players without player sales / creative accounting of existing salaries? Surely they are 'counting' on FDJ's exit?

Absolutely- this is probably why he’s on tour. I think the chicken game is between Frenkie and Barca though, about trying to get him wages back.

Well @Keefy18 has dedicated 254 posts in trying to say “It ain’t happening” in a variety of different flavours while ostracising anyone who believes it does. That some effort. Certainly deserves an honorary tagline.
When Frenkie signs his tagline should be "In the mud"
