If Frenkie and his agent are confident and believe he has a strong enough case that deferred wages not being paid are violating the contract he signed with Barca, why does he not leave and take legal action as a Manchester United player? I mean, apparently he wants to leave now and is waiting only on deferred wages.. according to British media, right? Leave, sue the club and get the wages owed. If he needs to stay at Barca in order to take legal action against them.. he basically stays ( which he wanted in the first place  ) and collects his inflated wages.

My thinking is, he and his agent signed a naïve deal with the club as he had no thoughts of leaving or the club forcing him to. He has no case, and the threat of 'wanting his pay' is asking the club to pay him to leave which they won't do, he knows this, thus we have a standstill.
I don’t know about “has no case”, but I do agree that many are massively oversimplifying the idea. Barcelona’s specific wording in the contracts agreed to would’ve been meticulous and as you say at the time Frenkie had 0 idea he’d be on his way out, so it’s far more of an actual debate than the open and shut case many want to believe it is.

It might bleed into January or next summer ala Sancho, you can't rule anything out at this point, but I can't see FDJ wanting to stay at Barca a minute longer after the club has told him to leave. Would you want to stick around after being told that?

Have they really told him to leave, still not hearing that from reliable enough sources

It's clear he'd rather be at Barca all things being equal. It's the accountants not the football people who want rid.

Pretty sure he will be on the plane to be honest but don't see how it makes a difference?
Means he isnt coming here and the rumours that he doesnt want to play for us are true I suppose. If he did want to come he would stand his ground in Barcelona. Saying that if Barca do want him to go, why would they take him on tour in the first place? It does your head in thinking about it.

Barcelona don't have a choice but to sell him at this point. Our only fear is whether or not another club jumps in that's more appealing to him.
Dont think anyone will offer what we are for him… my only issue would be if Barca offer him to city to try and smooth the Bernardo deal.

It really depends on the player, I'm not saying FDJ is a mercenary by any means but if he's very happy in the city and his fiance is also... then throw in an additional 17M for staying put...

It's a pretty freakin sweet deal tbf.

These things blow over and if for arguments sake he stayed, Barca have to find a way to pay him, he'd eventually work his way back into the team I'm sure of it. They hire / fire managers for fun there so the new guy could put him straight back in for all we know.

June 30th was a non event. The deadline day was a non event. I guess only Sep 1st is the date of any significance. Oh well.

I still can't see how the deal won't go ahead.

They're already spending the money. Selling FDJ fixes many areas in the team and lowers the wage bill.

Barca have to also replace Aguero last season who had to retire early and they've not had a true striker since Suarez.

At this point Lewandowski makes sense for 2-3 seasons, they have Raphina now, soon they'll need to replace Busquets, Pique, Alba it's going to be a brutal period for Barca but their recruitment policy means they have to really gut the team and have 3-4 years on the sideline and try stay relevant for a while.

They really pissed away the Neymar money.

United have literally offered a substantial deal they won't get again. They'll freeze him out I feel, I think he already knows whats happening.

They aren't actually spending it though. The players aren't and can't be registered.

If FDJ decides to stay then all deals done will be void.

Which is even more telling, I doubt a club would be that stupid if everything wasn't already in place.

I also don't feel that ETH would not know how FDJ feels and if a deal is even possible.

United are a bit of a circus, but Barca is a whole different level of clownery. No good manager since Guardiola, a team carried purely by Messi until he vacated.

They won't be void they will just not be registered for La Liga and so ineligible to play. Don't forget the same happened last summer and Depay was being asked to take a pay cut 5 minutes after arriving so they could register players. What is most offensive about this is a lot of the players that did agree to defer money did so because they were told they had to do it so that money could be found for Messi and then once they had agreed to give up 40% of their wages Barca turned around and admitted they were never going to be able to keep Messi anyway. Laporta is a lying snake.

The club already knows for sure

They have to sell someone of value in this window to fund Lewa and Silva - not to mention their dodgy financial position. That said, it's very likely he has been politely asked to leave in order to make ends meet.

It's clear he'd rather be at Barca all things being equal. It's the accountants not the football people who want rid.

The football people need new players, which cannot be achieved without the sale of new players. Something has to give.

It's Barca, they don't live in the world of reality... Nothing would surprise me with them anymore

Apologies yes you would be correct.

It means Xavi isn't going to ostracise him to please the club. Which means he can stay without consequences
Yeah... no. You honestly think the directors haven't been in his ear and told him they need him gone? They'll want Xavi to emphasise that he's not required and try to work on him to get him out.

There is no way he's staying with the same contract, he won't take a pay cut so he's not staying at all

To be fair to Xavi the directors tried to force Dembélé out of the team until he extends his contract and Xavi refused which funnily enough likely allowed Dembélé to earn a larger contract that he would otherwise had.

They can ask and try do all they can to get rid of him, but if he decides to stay...literally zero they can do.

Bogarde for Chelsea ring a bell?
Pretty sure we've had deals agreed for Jones at least twice to get rid and he's simply refused to leave.

Memories fuzzy on the Jones one but I vaguely recall him not wanting to leave for lower wages so, didn't.

This tour is going to be a big thing, I've just looked at the full itinerary on FC Barca's site. It also says this:
The players will be joined on tour by president Joan Laporta and members of his board, who have a long agenda of social and commercial events to attend with an eye to boosting the club’s presence in the country, one of the prime targets for expanding the Barça name globally, and also to make closer contact with the team’s supporters in such a key strategic region.

Club legends Juliano Belletti and Thierry Henry will be among the travelling party.

So if Frenkie goes on the tour, he has no way of escaping the circus.

Damn it's a Dutch thing, nah but seriously, I get what you are saying but if he does refuse to go, well they could always use the nuclear option and come out and stated his refusal will see him on the bench and not play, which then throws up a curveball so to speak given LVGs recent comments about not selecting players for the World Cup that are not getting game time, so then it would become a test for LVG and his recent if to be believed comments to Justin Timber about not coming here due to lack of game time and how it would cost him his spot and for FDJ if LVG is not just mouthing off with his normal anti UTD BS.

If he goes on that plane we have to move on and it kills me to say this.
We can`t keep wasting time on this with the season about to start

I'm certain if there was something they could do, they'd do it.

de Jong staying on the contract he's on will literally cock up the entire transfer window for them. They won't be able to register any new players, and those like Lewandowski and probably Silva too will fall through i'd imagine.
Do you think de Jong will be liked then? Unless the guy has balls of steel, i'm gessing the pressure will get to him before long

I can see us spending 30-35M for Tielemans if this goes tits up. Wouldn’t be a bad deal but Frenkie in ten Hag’s midfield is just on another level

The thing that gets me about this... do you not think he could just get on a plane to the UK if everything is sorted or if he finally agrees to move?
People truly think when he's on the tour thats it, he can't come off it?

We should move for a Tielemans or bargain Dm if he’s travelling. Then leave the door open for a late swoop for de jong dependent on outgoing business.

Doesnt mean the deal is definitely dead, but we must act now to ensure a reasonable quality midfield for the start of the season.

According to todays Eurosport, he doesn’t even want to leave Barca, just get the £17m he’s owed in deferred payments.

“Frenkie de Jong’s potential move to Manchester United is set to fall through, even though Barcelona have accepted a bid from the Premier League club. Spanish media outlet Sport reveal that the Dutch midfielder’s agent Ali Dursun met with Manchester United’s CEO Richard Arnold and the club’s director of football John Murtough and outright rejected their approach. The report states that De Jong is not refusing to leave Barcelona this summer, but “is firm in his refusal to go to Manchester United”. Barca are keen to sell the 25-year-old to raise transfer funds to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich.”.

Well that’s this utter and complete shambles of a transfer saga finally put to bed now - thank feck!

Onto the Ruben Neves thread.

Joking, was anyone really surprised with this?
Yep put it to bed... transfer window is closed, shut up shop, no time for Neves, it was Frenkie or bust.

Shut up shop lads, this one is done.

(I saw the text ;)) haha
