To which he should reply "check my contract you cnuts". Its more accurate to say that Barca must find a way to make FdJ happy if they want him to leave.
he will never play another minute again if he refuses to leave. They’ll make the rest of his contract as miserable as possible.

It really is in his best interests to take the hint he’s no longer wanted and move on.

Its all about the deffered payments, I suspect there are clauses in the contract with regards to losing the deferred payment if de Jong accepts an offer to leave or barca having to pay it if they force him out, hence the stand off.

Barca don't want to pay it so don't want to be seen to be forcing him out hence the rhetoric of 'we want you to stay but on reduced terms'

Frenkie dosent want to lose the deferred wages hence the 'rhetoric of i don't want to leave nor do I want to take the salary cut'

Its a questions of who blinks first which sureley must be Barca as they need the cash and they need to get frenkie of the wage bill, frenkie will just sit it out till he gets what he is owed one way or another.

I suspect all parties want the transfer to happen but noone can publicly say that as it will cost them 17m euros.

For about the 500th time.......MUFC told Ducker that "we would not continue negotiations without reassurances that he was open to a move"

How many times do we have to restate this?

Basically he’s going nowhere until he’s paid what he’s owed. I don’t think we should be freaking out yet. He’s entitled to get what he’s owed

Players have stayed at clubs and backed themselves before. Imo the entire De Jong goes or no signings is propaganda in itself and you are all falling for it.
Sell Pedri, Sell Gavi, hell throw in Depay as well to even up the wages. Why is that not as far fetched as selling a star like De Jong?
Selling De Jong isn’t the only answer it’s made out to be.
Or. Shock horror, don’t buy expensive players when you’re in the financial shit? I’m sure your real job doesn’t assume, with all your fancy communication, by spending money hoping they have more coming in when it’s such a huge risk that it won’t?
Do they understand constructive dismissal at your so called job if these jobs exist?

when has a player refused to move which in the process would stop all the new signings being registered in the league and then demanded they sell someone else.

this isn’t as simple as Phil Jones just sitting on his contract and getting paid it brings the whole club into disrepute with such a move.

The only way he stays would be taking the salary cut.

No it's not. De Jong isn't gonna piss away his career by sitting in the stands because Barca is his dream club.
The only people that don't piss off when the club wants them to is deadwood happy to ride out a fat contract.

No way he would end up in the stands. That is ridiculous. He holds all the power.

But why is it just De Jong? That’s where the propaganda kicks in. The funny thing is I think they’ll sell someone else if they can’t get rid of De Jong anyway. There’s talk of them Lookng into ways to cancel Depay, Braithwhite (however you spell his name) and Umtiti so that could free up the wage difference.

You can’t be serious

If barca were unable to register their signings because he refused to take a pay cut or move to a new team he would be made a huge villain every trick in the book would be used to make it known he is the bad guy.

This is business not happy families.

no one’s paying big money for any of Barca’s rejects it’s not a secret they are in a financial mess every single man and his dog knows.

They can't afford to do that. If they do then they still have to pay him AND they lose the transfer fee AND they need new players. As I understand it Xavi made clear he will still play him. So Barca really are holding no cards at all. I imagine even their fans think they're being cnuts.

They'd have to get rid of quite a few of their players to be able to reduce the wage bill enough to be able to afford new signings and de Jongs wages.

Plus do you think Lewandowski will come in to be second best earner to de Jong? Lewandowski is world class, de Jong has potential to be world class in a couple of years. No way is he coming in on less than FdJ!

That’s the trouble with deferring wages etc. Dodnt they hand out a stupid extension to Umtiti just to spread his wages, why would he leave? Delay’s been there 1 season, why would he cancel his contract? They can’t just say we’ll pay you later then when later comes ask players to leave, people want reimbursement for their labour.

The way Barca are acting is disgusting & the media really aren’t covering this as they should be.

What's "business" about weakening your own squad after you couldn't register new players and sabotaging the value of your own asset?

Fotball fans.. ""

If reports are to be believed, Xavi isn't really bothered about him leaving. He's happy to let him go and understands the reasons for doing it.

He's also got players he'd much rather play over de Jong, so if he was to stay he'd be used as a massive squad rotation player. Squad rotation player at a club that doesn't want you there with a manager that doesn't care either way, or star player at United with a manager you love and highly respect?

Barca don't seem to be acting like they've learnt from their mistakes.

If FDJ decides to stay on his wages and they get Raphinha and Lewa idk what they're going to do. They are playing a dangerous game.

Pretty crazy a lot of people here actually do believe that Barcelona will bench De Jong for years if he doesn't leave. That makes no sense and it won't happen.

Another 500 should do it. It’s not going in due to density. By that time he will have signed and it won’t matter anymore

Nonsense. It’s not Frenkie’s fault in the first place. And Barca trying to make a guy they owe €17m in wages to out to be the villain would be a joke. They are playing their hand right now and it is obviously a bluff. It is a question of whether FdJ wants to makes the move or not. He holds all the cards.

Yes in your make believe fairytale world it would be seen as it is in reality especially in the tribal world of football he would be the villain.

People literally turn away from mass murder and human rights abuses when there football team is winning trophies….. but poor frenkie de jong is a step too far.

They don’t want to keep him though & are trying to get him off the wage bill so they can register their new players. Those deferred wages, which FDJ isn’t budging on, is what seems to be holding up the deal.

I mean if people want to believe that were after a player that has no intention of coming to United or leaving Barca at all, but at the same time has no intention of taking another pay cut or giving up his deferred wages... well, I don't know what to tell you.

There is no chance we're going for a guy that's said he won't come at all. It just wouldn't happen when we're trying to rebuild our reputation in the market too... some guys need to use common sense here

Ok

Yes, but you're still going to have to pay those deferred wages and his current wages on top of that next season regardless, no ?

So If you're Barcelona it's a pretty stupid bluff, I mean risk pissing off a player that next season would be getting 300k a week plus 17 mill in deferred wages and then ruining your transfer window and squad building.

Imagine doing all those negotiations for Raphinha and Lewa only for FDJ to stay and you can't register them. Pretty stupid. FDJ just has to sit tight and Barca will either pay him off or he's absolutely fecked them and wasted their whole summer.

Which leads me to believe that Barca don't actually have to get rid of him to sign those players which makes it a bit annoying and gives us less power from our side.

I agree. Doesn't make much sense. However it could drag out over this wage issue apparently going on between Frenkie and Barca. I could very much understand Frenkie being principle about this. If this wage issue rumours are true, Barca's just trying to mug him off here. This could drag out as long as Barca feel like they can hold out without needing to show cash to sign/register another player.

What I think will happen is:

Barca will agree a fee with United - apparently done.

Barca will tell de Jong its pay cut or leave - also done apparently

Barca will offer de Jong a take it or leave it offer, one they KNOW he won't take, it'd be the absolute max they can legally cut his wages by, and writing off his deferred wages or cutting them big time

De Jong will refuse the offer and Barca will flat out tell him that he has no future at the club. His only option is to leave.

De Jong will reluctantly leave and Barca will spin it as they tried their best to keep him and offered him a deal that they believe was modest and acceptable. They'll paint him as a mercenary who cared more for money then the club.

This will all play out over the next few days in my opinion

If they successfully trigger the second lever, they would have generated around €500-550M. Doesn’t this mean that they can afford to keep De Jong if they wanted to, pay his outstanding salary and still sign players?

"We have really been looking to find ways to use [De Jong's] skills in the best manner," Ten Hag told Dutch Soccer Site in 2019. "Where can he play best, for the team and to showcase his talent. Everyone was screaming: Frenkie is the biggest talent, etc etc. Well yes. But, where? In midfield? Ok, but which role?

"His quality is that he makes the forwards perform better. He is a wanderer, an adventurer, he’s always on the move, like a shark. With the ball, often, but also without the ball. So if you put him on 6 [defensive midfield], he’s away too often. But you need to give him freedom, otherwise you can’t the best out of him.

"It wasn’t an easy puzzle, so I decided to play with two number 6s and only one attacking mid. And in this way, we can also dominate the half space, and force opponents to choose."

On whether he initially wanted Van de Beek as a permanent defensive midfielder, Ten Hag said: "This goes to show that plans are just plans, the reality needs to want it as well. And in reality, Donny is also a player who likes to be on the move.

"For both Donny and Frenkie it is a strength. So Lasse [Schone] fulfilled the role perfectly!"

Who is going to be our Lasse? How do you fit Fernandes, De Jong and Eriksen into the same team?

Murthough and Arnold are on holidays, Barcelona is a great city to visit.

It is insane that Murthough has been working on this deal from before the Arnold videos came out, there's no way.

Probably but they STILL need him to take a pay cut to get their wage budget in order. As it stands he'd still be the top earner and players like Lewandowski wouldn't want to be on less than him I'd imagine.
