Dont think that is an option. He will stay for July, but in August, he will change his opinion, unless Barca can find money in another way. Considering the midfield they have, their spending and the amount they have to pay him plus missing out on a big fee, this is unlikely that they will be happy to just keep him.

His salary would be huge anyway but if he stays they have to start paying the deferred wages back on top of his actual salary and that would mean paying him around 500,000 a week which destroys the new wage scale they are implementing. Selling other players could in theory bring in a similar fee if you sold the right ones but they would need to get 4 or 5 out of the door to save the same amount in wages. The bottom line is that Barca cannot and will not pay him to stay as due to the La Liga rules around the salary cap they literally will not be able to register Kessie, Christensen, Raphina etc. and keep FDJ on the books.
