I know it's ridiculous to ask now but is he going to transform this team? Seems his biggest strength is dribbling and dribbling isn't really valued in the league, passing, dynamism and movement are. Am I off with this?
Having de Jong and Eriksen in the midfield will transform the team completely. In McFred we have a cowardly midfield that does not show for the ball and forces our defence to use our full-backs, who are terrible, to play out from the back.

Well you’re oversimplifying it a bit here. If we paid extra as Barcelona are pushing for then they’d have the money to pay him off. We however have refused to accept that hence the slightly bumpier road to the destination we all want, but on the positive side it’s left us with a decent amount of fuel still in the tank.

I'll be fuming if we paid the money Barca promised De Jong.

We'd effectively be paying for the work he's done the past 2-3 seasons he had with Barcelona.

I'd rather we walk away if that's what it'll take. He can stay there at his "dream club" and deal with them for the next few seasons.

We shouldn't just dismiss the reports that we don't like out of hand though. It's no secret that there is/has been some persuasion required here for the player, and contrary to what people say - clubs agree deals for players without having agreed with the player first all the time. Just this window, it appears Ekitike has personally snubbed Newcastle despite the club side being sorted, and Chelsea have agreed a fee with Leeds for Raphinha ages ago, but clearly haven't succeeded, as of yet, in convincing the player to accept it ahead of his preference in signing for Barcelona. Arsenal are seemingly of even less interest to Raphinha, and they have also made formal offers for him.

Basically, we don't really know what the detail is here.

None of those players would be joining a manager they have played with previously and have a great connnection with though, and a manager where the player enjoyed his best football in a position he likes best but doesn’t get to play at Barça.
So you’d have to believe ETH and de Jong haven’t spoken about this multiple times, despite having an excellent relationship.

For what it’s worth, Raphinha’s priority is Barca, but Arsenal have bid in the hope that falls through due to Barça’s financial situation. If it does, you can be sure he’ll be interested in Arsenal and Chelsea. Just as de Jong’s priority is to stay and get paid at Barça, but if not possible, it’s clear his next priority is to join ETH.
Newcastle are like City after the takeover, just taking pot shots left right and centre, if they get lucky, maybe they will get a Robinho, thinking he’s joining United and then realising after signing that there is more than one “United” in the league.

Is that more than the verbal figure reported a few weeks ago?
If so looks like we’re picking up Barca’s tab for the money they owe Frenkie.

He will always maintain a position that he doesn't want to leave, until contract issue with barca is sorted out. Imagine he says he wants to leave. That would weakened his negotiation position with Barca. If I were him I will always say I don't want to leave, it's you pushing me out so pay up my dues.

I have but take KDB, he strikes the ball better than anyone in world football. So while he can dribble, his ability to whip unreal crosses into the box that are undefendable or bang in twenty five yard shots for fun, means that he doesn't just have his driblling.

Silva can dribble but his movement and stamina make him much more. Can De Jong strike the ball well? Does he have an engine?

De Jong dribbles and turns better than de Bruyne. De Bruyne has better passing and crossing although De Jong is decent in that aspect.

KdB is more of a goal threat, while Frenkie connects defense and midfield. Different players really.

I don't see that making any difference as legally surely he is entitled to his deferred salary whatever his stance is on leaving?

De Jong can do more than dribble as I already said.

Can’t wait for all these pro-Barcelona journalists who have been doing everything they can push the narrative that De Jong won’t move from them to Utd to be silenced.

Saying that, Frenkie could be papped at getting off the plane in Manchester and they’ll still probably being tweeting stuff like:

“De Jong has flown to Manchester to inform the Utd hierarchy of his intentions to stay at his dream club Barcelona”
