I wouldn’t give a feck if it was Xanadu, I wouldn’t have people taking the piss and treating me like a cnut.
How are they treating him badly? They are publicly saying he is very much appreciated and wanted to stay. His manager (a football legend) wants him to stay. He earns millions even taking into consideration the deferred wages and lives in one of the best cities to live in the world.

Poor Frenkie...

Yeah I have and been robbed twice. People make it out to be some fantasy land when it’s far from it. They couldn’t even finish Gaudi’s cathedral.
:D :D I'm sure Frenkie de Jong are you share at least 90% of the same lifestyle and living experience.

Yeah, that unfinished Gaudi cathedral sure looks worse than Manchester's city landscape...

He isn't Zidane but he is not McTominay either. Meaning he would be one of the midfield upgrades that this team need. This team really needs proper midfielders and potential acquisitions like Eriksen and FdJ would be a really good start. Nothing is guaranteed but at least it is exciting to see. Not saying McTominay is crap, but he is certainly not first eleven player at this moment. Perhaps, a squad rotation type of role or backup.

Just call a spade a spade. He is crap.

I 100% want us to sign De Jong, but just once I'd like to see United pull the rug on clubs like this. How many times have United been jerked around by other clubs, players looking for a bigger contract, agents, etc.? I would love nothing more than for United to announce they just signed some similar player and aren't interested in De Jong anymore. Would leave Barca in a terrible situation. Unfortunately, it looks like we've got all our eggs in this basket and will once again have to put up with this BS.
I agree with you on a broader level. We should identify the type of player we need, and scout accordingly. Rather than saying we want player A or else nothing.

You would think we have improved on this front after the recent changes in structure. But it looks like we are still completely dependent on the manager to identify our targets. Either our scouting system is non existent or the club hierarchy are completely ignoring their recommendations. Both wouldn't really surprise me.

I get why Ten Hag wants players he has played with before, but this severly limits the target pool of players. And also doesn't help us in negotiations. Of course Ajax won't sell half of their team to us in one season.

So? He isnt Zidane but he is a high quality midfielder who fits ETH his system perfectly. He is the ideal option who is also available. It makes sense to try everything possible to get him.
I think we’re building him up to be someone he hasn’t quite shown to be as of yet as we do with every signing we make.
I don’t think it’s worth being fecked around like this, its a bit of a lazy attempted signing from Ten Hag imo. As soon as desperate Barca were successful with this whole lever shit we should have been prepared to walk away. We are looking at a situation where a move would cost De Jong cost tens of millions of pounds and he’s just as likely to stay put as move to us.
Look, I’m not saying he’s not a good player and he would slot straight in for us but Ten Hag can’t rely on having players knowing how to play under him for every transfer we make. Last week it was the structure of add ons now it’s back to guaranteed fee. feck knows how the debt ridden shell of Barca are dictating terms to us like this. That’s what happens when we don’t have the reputation of being able to walk away

I guarantee you that what Barcelona says behind closed doors and what they say in public are two very different things. I imagine the negotiations are going quite smoothly behind closed doors. It's just complicated because Barcelona have put themselves in an awkward situation with the deferred wages.

Poor Frenkie...
So you are okay with a company fecking their employees for wages? Just because said employee has enough money?

By that logic, most of the companies in developed economies can say the same about their employees. I'm sure someone earning 100K a year will not go broke if he's not paid 30% of his wages. So why not do that?

Many Muppets would suffer from PTSD after this.

I dunno, I think they’re in such a weak position that a fair transfer discussion is just bad business from us. We have the fee agreed apparently, it’s just what’s guaranteed and add ons. If nobody else wants to pay that price then set it now and say take it or leave it. De Jong went there as one of the best young players in the world and his fee represented his potential. Now he hasn’t lived up to that Barca get to sell him for the price he was brought in for as if it’s any way a similar situation?
Im a bit of a whinger on here but I still don’t see why we get to assume it’s the private talks that represents their real stance and not their public declarations?

Poor Frenkie...

It’s treating your employees badly not paying them their wages. Surely you get that?

He doesn’t really want to come here, if he could stay at Barca, he would. That much is obvious.

Well yes. Barcelona is his dreamclub and he likes Spanish football. Also Barcelona will play in the Champions League and try to compete for the title. The weather in Barcelona is also nicer. The thing is, he cant really stay because of Barcelona their problems. That + ETH is why Manchester United has the chance to sign him.

They're publicly saying they want him to stay whilst simultaneously negotiating his transfer from the club and leaking his contract to show why they want him gone.

His manager won't play him in his preferred position because he considers himself to have much better players in that position too.

So yeah, they're treating him like royalty there, what a club.

Yes, this much is obvious. We just need to hope he finds a love for the club and all it encompasses, the last thing we need is more players who don’t want to be here/care for the shirt.

Well going from latest reports, hes in daily contact with Ten Hag, not sure why he'd do that if he had no intention of leaving or wanting to play for United...

But hey, ignore the positive stuff and focus on the negative.

This is becoming the biggest joke transfer of all time and once again Utd are being taken for chumps.
Why dont Utd offer more money upfront (at the moment its reported we offered e65 mill plus e22 mill addons, they want e75 mill 12 mill addons) e70 mill 17 mill add ons. Say its a 7 day deal and we will walk away if the answer is no or Barca still stalling. Use the 7 days for TH to identify a couple of alternatives, just in case.

Utter utter over the top shite. So many hysterical children on here.

We're not a plan B, we're Barcas plan A and they're doing all they can to force him out. They tell the media they want him to stay but I bet they go to him and offer him something they know he won't take. It's plain sailing from there. He'll be told to go.

Why Barca would need to do that? I understand such play in the case of Messi to calm down the fans.
However, FdJ wasn't that influential or a fan darling. I think most fans will be happy Raphina and Silva joining, and won't shed much tears, if FdJ is leaving

no no, I’m very positive. I get that he has a great relationship with ETH. Of course he is going to keep in touch, this could happen through no fault of his own.. but it’s not his first choice. It just isn’t.

That isn’t negative it’s just going off what he said himself in press conference. This also isn’t to say he can’t come here and be amazing for us.

Has he reported for Barcelona preseason yet?

Its gotten to a point were we should be approaching alternatives now, Ten Hag only had him for 1 and half year in Ajax if I'm not mistaken and still did well, it shouldn't be this must have Messiah situation we make every major signing every summer to be.

Where are all the people who were mocking those frustrated by our transfer business? A week into July and a back up full back signed, while the window and ten Hags plans seem to hinge on the most protracted signing of the summer. Our top scorer, diva that he is, is reportedly so unimpressed that he thinks we can't challenge next season and from the positions most fans agree we most need to improve : RB, CB, DM, RW and FW, we haven't signed anybody and likely won't in all of those spots.

We may still have a decent window, but its hard to see any change between this and previous windows, especially if Dybala rumours are true

The reason why we should assume that the private talks are their real stance and not their public declerations, is because Laporta is a known to lie in public. It's what he does. He is someone who will do anything to appear as if he's fighting hard for Barcelona and its interests, and maintain the image of the club as a European powerhouse both financially and in terms of football ability. He would never want to admit that Barcelona need to sell and that they have messed up big time with player contracts, unless it can help him appear as a hero cleaning up after Bartomeu.

Assuming we've wrapped up the deal at a satisfactory price, why would we walk away from it just because Laporta is a bit of a dick in public for a few weeks? In the end we end up with the player we want and a deal we're happy with.

Yes especially giving the weird nature of this deal, currently any plans ETH has for next season would rely on this signing going through or else we'll be in trouble because our midfield really needs improvement.
You would think we'll want to get this signing before the tour but it clearly isn't happening, if the issue is about us paying up more money at this point we should or walk away to another target, if its Barca and De jong holding it up we should identify another target and dual negotiate both deals, at this point we're leaving ourselves at the mercy of the other parties and we really don't have to.

:D :D I'm sure Frenkie de Jong are you share at least 90% of the same lifestyle and living experience.

Yeah, that unfinished Gaudi cathedral sure looks worse than Manchester's city landscape...
Just my personal opinion is all. I’ve been fortunate to travel the world extensively with work and I do not think Barcelona is all that, I find the people to be arrogant in the same way as Parisians and it’s not a city that gives you a ‘safe’ feeling.

The footballers lifestyle that you mentioned would most likely have them living in Cheshire, which I think is one of the most picturesque areas in Europe. Also the people of the north west are great and welcoming.

Again my opinion from my experiences.

This is the crux of it.

We’ve not seen anything contrary to this recently either

Simon Stone confirmed this today

Its just made up. Ofcourse Barcelona will exist in two years. Too big too fall. Clubs that size will always find money to be saved somewhere.
They will exist but they might get relegated due to violations of la Ligab financial rules.
Nobody thought this could happen to Juventus also until they got relegated.

To be perfectly honest United seem to be the common denominator in drawn out public transfer sagas...
Anyway, as long as we get the player... this summer!
