How fecking brainwashed is De Jong to stay there?

I know we're a shitshow but we can afford to pay people.

Dream club sentiment. Many dutch players see Barcelona as the dream after Johan cryuff's revolution over there and its recent successes.

However De Jong wants to leave but he is unable to do anything as Barca is yet to come to a agreement regarding the full transfer fee. He is still under contract to Barca unless its proven that Barca are no longer able to pay him, resulting in contract termination.

On a side note.. I’ve got Covid. Vaccinated and boosted and it still sucks.
I absolutely adore these forums. Reading the back and forth bickering gives me reasons to chuckle. That’s helping immensely.

I’m in the same boat mate. I wish Covid would just walk away to be honest.

BARCELONA TRANSFERS Q&A: Do Xavi's outfit have the cash to sign Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Cesar Azpilicueta? Can they justify selling Frenkie de Jong to Man United?

And that would leave them free to buy Bernardo Silva, Jules Kounde, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Cesar Azpilicueta and re-sign Ousmane Dembele?

No no no. Or at least if they did do that it would be previous president Josep Bartomeu levels of irresponsibility. They can't mortgage the club in the name of bringing some financial security and then blow the cash injection all in one summer.

Laporta needs to keep up appearances that the club is back at the top table ready to bid for Europe's top players and he is certainly doing that. But they wont get them all. Neither can they afford the humiliation of landing none of them.

And in midfield does De Jong stay or go?

The biggest barrier to de Jong leaving Barcelona is the same sticking point that emerged when they first started offering him around: doesn't want to give up €12m net a season (now rising to €18m) and Champions League football.

Barcelona also need to sell it to supporters that they got €85m for the player because that is what they paid for him in 2019. United only want to pay €65m up front.

The latter problem could be solved by a package of convoluted add-ons but de Jong's position might be harder to soften.

There are likely repercussions to de Jong’s deferred wages if he agrees to terms with another club. This is probably the reason why his agent hasn’t agreed personal terms with United just yet and is instead trying to negotiate a settlement or structure so that de Jong isn’t shafted out of millions he’s deferred for Barca’s benefit. You can’t blame his agent or de Jong for getting everything they’re entitled too from Barca. You also can’t blame United for taking a stand and telling Laporta and that sham of a club that it’s their problem to solve. It’s incredible that in the span of a decade the scum of Spain are Barcelona FC while Madrid have come out looking like the good guys. Lots of damaged egos in play (mostly Laporta and the Barca board), so this move will drag late into the summer window.

Got to love Bayern calling Barcelona out as the mess they are. Man Utd, in the meantime, are being very quiet and patient.

The post starts "I 100% want us to sign De Jong"... but my point is that we always seem to be in positions where we are getting jerked around by other clubs, players looking for better deals, agents, etc. Just once, I'd like us to have a plan B so we could walk away and not have to put up with this crap. Maybe if we did that once in a while, clubs would think twice before pulling this crap on us. You think Bayern get jerked around like this as much as we do? No, because they don't stand for it and always have an alternative plan.

Bayern are currently getting pissed around by lewandowski right now.

10-15 years ago i always thought of Barca as a 'proper' club or a 'classy' club as opposed to Real Madrid who would openly tap up other team's players and do their galactico/showbiz circus BS. How did they end up in this mess?

Don't you remember them putting a Barca shirt on Fabregas? Them being classless goes back quite a while, they just have this hypocritical holier than thou attitude

yeah, fair enough. It does seem like they've gotten a lot worse in the last 5 years though.

Like when we were negotiating for Morata and Rom at the same time. I agree with what you are saying, especially looking at the fact that we are the ones who should have more leverage in this deal.

According to reports, the two clubs have a broad agreement. The negotiations between United and Barca are too advanced right now for us to back down. We're now waiting for de Jong's and his agent's belated response.

De Jong obviously had talks with Laporta. I'm betting they are trying to restructure his contract. We are de Jong's plan B if the restructuring happens to fall through.

This. The player waits on the club to see if we can find a financial resolution that will benefit both parties with the player eager to remain with Barca. Many call us a scum club and under Bartomeu I cannot disagree but much of the hate we are being received isn't justified. Laporta is a known liar so it is no surprise if De Jong joins United indifferent of his words but the club offering Frenkie a wage reduction to remain is not a sign of us smearing him as greed. Many cules are mad at the board for even considering selling this player, Laporta will not come out of this in a good light if he sells we are not stupid (cules).

As for Bayern, they are butthurt their best player wants to leave them to join the 'dumpster fire' 'Brokelona' club. I suppose he is rather bored in Bundesliga with no competition but I am sure the Germans can grab another talent from their farming land league.

In reality United are having a complete reset this season and expectations should be Top 4 at best, but I'm fully prepared for a 4th-6th battle all season.

With that in mind its not worth over spending on Frankie to achieve 4th, and telling Barca to forget the deal would also be satisfying at this point, with the added bonus of wrecking their plans for Lewandowski.

Plenty more fish in the sea to improve the midfield at United. Time to pursue a few other targets and see if they actually want to play here.

If true, I love it. But they are a selling club here while we are buying, so that changes your behaviour.
Having said that, we should threten to walk away and start working on plan b. Let them crash and burn

100%
It's time to walk away from this.
If Barca are as desperate as some believe, then they'll change their tune, or try to fleece another club.
Time to concentrate on alternatives, particularly a solid type CDM.

United wouldn’t go this this far if they believed the player had no interest in joining.

It’s time to get our midfield sorted. If that means walking away and going for other targets then so be it. We cannot afford to waste the entire window chasing an unreachable target.

There is NO way they can sign Kessie, Christensen, Lewandowski, Raphinha and Azpilicueta this summer without selling de Jong

they not only need the funds to pay for 2 of those guys but also need to have guys leave to help with the salary situation

We aren’t walking away. This is the guy Ten Hag wants. Not an alternative. About time people realised this.

Punk ass Barca needing us to pay their bills for them, all the while still trying to fool everyone with their designer gear that they bought with a Wonga loan.
