Surely him writing off is curtains for us

I mentioned it before -- PR or public pronouncement is different for fan-owned clubs. It hyper-political. For all we know its for domestic consumption ie the Barca fans who are represented by the socios vote every few years. Like any system that has an election, there is a lot of spin but all with a political agenda in mind.

With the Glazers as owners, they only understand one thing -- the impact on their bottom line. A much easier a language to understand.

Do any of you actually exist or work in the real world, the fact you all struggle to differentiate between what is said in private and a narrative being set in public is incredible.

We would never sell Madrid a virus then sold them our best player the year later.

Its so obvious to see its quite worrying people just accept something on face value especially in the business world.

so are you in the freefrenkie camp or leave it move on?

I love the idea of signing new players. We really need new blood in the squad. But if it is true, he dosnt want the move, but only comes if he are pushed away. Then is he really the type of player we need right now? I would love him, but with Eriksen we have a ball controlling player. Please dont make a stupid move for a player with exceptional high wages.

God I wish I understood all that, best to just put it terms of how likely are we to get this player before season starts.

Just send final bid and give them few days to say yes or no. And then move to other targets. I mean, guy is very good and all that but he is not new Modric ffs.
If they realise that we might move for another target then they will maybe stop delaying transfer

This confirms he’s off.

If he wasn’t being sold he would have simply said that “not for sale, any price”. Instead he chose to tell the world that he won’t be sold UNLESS they have no other choice, which everyone knows, they don’t.

Same approach as earlier or late last week. We love him, we want him to stay unless he takes a pay cut.

All this double-talk. he is the king.

We dont want to sell him but he wanted to go because he couldnt sacrifice money to play for the glorious Barcelona. This is what will be repeated by every outlet in next few week. Someone on Reddit was predicting how FDJ contract details will be leaked after Laporta comments last week and then Marca leaked it. Barcelona are such a scum club and are getting free ride in press over this.

Unless he writes off some of the deferred salary and takes a pay cut in line with the new salary cap. I think that's what they're banking on being an option. The option of selling is a bit murky for them also, as they will then owe a tonne of money to a player no longer with them. Not sure of the legal ramifications but perhaps they would need to settle up a lot sooner if he is sold, as opposed to spreading the payments over the next 4 (?) years, minimum, if he stays. Realistically he could stay for another 8 years, who knows.

I'm in this is all but done and Barcelona are creating a narrative that they did everything possible but frenkie wanted to go.

Its so obvious its painful watching all these people crying saying its over he's definitely staying because of words from the president of Barcelona.

Like someone above just said to show how much we want him by being willing to do whatever it takes to secure this signing
That’s a ridiculous notion because if we wanted to do that we wouldn’t have bothered negotiated the initial fee at all. We’d have just paid the entire sum, up front, all in the name of showing him we’re “willing to do whatever it takes.” Which we obviously didn’t do because it’s a stupid idea.

And we thought Lukaku was a cnut for posting the sprint speed times of his teammates!

You just need some financial guy or accountants to calculate the time value of money. It's not impossible.

Why would anyone in their right mind agree to a pay cut when you're already owed shitloads of money?

It's the kind of shite some companies do when they say they want people who will do anything for them, whilst simultaneously giving feck all back to their employees. feck Barca, bunch of pretentious cnuts.

I just don't see how it gets sorted otherwise

Its not so much the guaranteed portion and the add-ons. We were never going to find out about this level of complexity until we get into negotiations.

It's about Frenkie who may have to sacrifice some $$$ or even more depending on the proposals. If United wants to help speed this along they could subsidise some of Frenkie's deferred salaries owe to him?

Are we willing to do that is the big question

Why would we need to subsidise it? He’s legally owed the money by Barca. If they don’t want to pay him he can simply make them and there’s not a thing they can do about it.

Yes I agree that he is owed that money, however like I said earlier how willing is he to go to war with his "dream club" over it

Unfortunately despite it being glaring obvious some people still can’t grasp this

That's on ETH IMO.

Now with the Ronaldo replacement problem ie an additional budget increase over the initial agreed amount earlier -- which I am sure Arnold has to go back to the Glazers to seek approval -- ETH has to think hard and fast about how much he really wants FdJ.

We happen to live in the real world. I’d be shocked if he walked away from millions of euros that he’s owed simply because he likes Barca.

I read: "We want to keep De Jong, but we can not afford to pay him, what we owe him. But if he is willing to ignore that we owe him money, he can stay".

Why not? If it means getting de Jong... im sure Manchester United can afford it after Pogba, Cavani, Mata, Lingard and maybe Ronaldo are of the wage bill.

That would be stupid as we would be paying off Barcelona's loan for them. They owe him they pay up, it's that simple.

Well by all noises he's Erik's key target so that should still be priority over replacing Ronaldo
