we can not compete with other teams which play UCL for signings big names, maybe and only maybe if we offer big money. once, we were desirable team for best players.

Well we are a bit shit, and wont challenge for a year or two at least, ETH or not. City will win titles. So understandable that his next move should not be a gamble. From one club in crisis to the next one is not something he would want if he can chose to go to a title challenger. I imagine PSG and Bayern would be also very keen if he is on the market.

Why are City interested they already have an incredible squad with Haaland on the way ffs.
Pep is mental.

He just isn't that good.

Seems to me like a player who can be appreciated much more in person. I was at the Nou Camp last weekend (I know it was only Mallorca) but he‘s so clever at working the ball into space from tight areas. He’s everything our midfield isn’t.

I don't think it's that difficult to understand. De Jong is an excellent midfielder who is more or less perfect for the way Pep plays football.

Throw in the fact that Fernandinho's leaving and Gundogan is ageing with just one year left on his contract and it would make a lot of sense why he'd be interested. We just have to hope they don't make a move because De Jong would also be the perfect midfielder for us.

Player can also believe in project. Reasons if he comes here, mainly because he believes ETH is the real deal and he thinks ETH can bring success for Man United. With VDB already at United, ETH can replicate 18/19 Ajax midfield and makes FDJ himself an important player for his team. Let's hope that is the case, leaving your boyhood dream club to play for ETH, a manager that developed you into star. Obviously, if he doesn't rate ETH then I can see he picks City over us 100% as we would have no other factor to attract him.

Still in the same ballpark, consider how many outgoings we'll have this summer it should pose no problem.
Don't we pay sancho like 400 k anyway?
I don't think I say it's a problem. You asked why he will only cost 60m, and my answer is because he's on 350k p.w wages.

Of course, I was just elaborating on that.

If not us it would be either bayern or city so I like our chances even though we won't be favorites.

Surely if he went to City he’d have the same issues he currently has at Barca where he’s in and out the team and not a shoe in to start? We’ve got to hope the idea of having a team built around him by the coach who he’s produced his best football under could entice him.

How do FDK and Rodri in the same 11 make any sense?
Because de Jong is NOT A DM. a midfield three of dejong-rodri- KDB is absolutely perfect. Rodri shields the defence and does the dirty work. Dejong would break the lines and progress the play through his dribbling and passing and KDB would add that creative and goal scoring element. Not one player in that midfield three has been shoehorned into a role they don't fit. With bernardo Silva itching to go to spain I can actually see a move like this materializing. Swap between Silva and de Jong.

Used to live in Barcelona and all the guys I know who support Barca think De Jong is meh. Not convinced by him at all.

Not to say he wouldn't improve at United but he's certainly not pulled up any trees in Spain.

Ajax fans said he's a DM. The main reason why he couldn't perform at Barcelona because he wasn't used as DM but playing as CM in midfield three.

De Jong played in Libero role at Ajax alongside Schone the deeplying playmaker. That's his best role to play deep in the area where DM plays and given free role.

Okay I always had the impression that he was more of a deep lying playmaker.

It would be a similar issue he has faces at Barca if he swaps for City. Plodri plays where he wants to.

Don't see him at City if they sign Pogba. Let's hope they waste their money on the Frenchman which in turn means we have a free run at the better midfielder

You can't give a player a libero role unless it's under very specific circumstances. An incredibly hard working no 10 and a "babysitter" midfielder beside him are just the start. De Jong doesn't need to necessarily play in those conditions to thrive. Almost all the top teams play in a midfield three. He can thrive in that formation as he has shown in barcelona albeit inconsistently

But according to Ajax fans, that's where he plays, a DM. So to consider him NOT a DM is not true. Unless you are telling me that you know more about FDJ than the Ajax fan?

''to thrive'' means you need to perform consistently not inconsistently. The poster is right to questioned whether Pep can allow FDH to thrive if he plays as CM when he doesn't perform at Barcelona playing in 433 with Busquest as DM because he's not allowed to dictate the tempo and build up play from a deeper area like how he was given the role at Ajax and Dutch national team.

Against Mallorca, Busquets was more impactful.

He always played at Ajax with another DM to hold when he breaks the lines. So yes he played DM but he was not the holding midfielder

A very old player who has lost most of his top physical attributes is still able to outshine him.

Okay. Read my first post again. I didn’t say he was man of the match, I didn’t say he was the best midfielder on the pitch. I said he is able to do things our midfield is lacking and I think it’s appreciated better watching the game at the stadium.

Yeah definitely feels that way, so who is the other one outside of De Jong & Tchouameni

Rice. 380 pages between those two and Rice.

Actually with Phillips that makes it four out of four who have 0 chance of coming here.

Where are the realistic targets?

I did say that he played as Libero at Ajax alongside deeplying playmaker. But question was about him playing as CM in midfield 3.

Now I’m starting to believe this. Barcelona have no issue to sell him so let’s hope ETH should be able to sign him. We have good chance to replica that Ajax 18/19 midfield with VDB, FDJ, and a deep-lying playmaker.
"Starting" ? Better late than never!

I've told all of you to have hope. Xavi's comments, Busquets being undroppable, Gavi and Pedri, Kessie and Soler coming in, Barca needing money. Everything adds up to him being Arthur'd. He wants to say but he's easy money for Barca so they'll pressure him to leave.

Only question is if ten Hag is enough to convince him, but he's definitely on the market.

Arthur isn’t regular. FDJ is regular. 2 different scenarios. Barcelona getting rid non regular player to fund them money makes more sense than Barcelona getting rid their regular player to fund them money. Without a good journalist, you can’t believe in anything.

Like Arthur, Frenkie won't be a regular when Kessie and Soler join because Xavi won't drop Busquets and considers Frenkie as an 8 rather than a 6. He's a regular now as he doesn't want to start both Gavi and Pedri week in, week out, which is why it's one or the other, wheras Arthur was also competing with Vidal, Frenkie and Rakitic.

It's all shaping up. Even if it's unfortunately not to us, I'm confident that he'll be pressured to leave in the summer.

Stick your neck on the line where will he be at the start of next season

Depends how you define DM doesn’t it. Most people think of it as the tackler, defensive shield. Makelele etc.

Frenkie seems to be more of a Pirlo, Verratti, Jorginho, Kroos style midfielder. He just has elite dribbling which seems to confuse people I think.

The point being De Jong alongside a ball winner or high energy player seems ideal.
