The following summer.
Do you think that we should have paid 50m extra for that year or did we do the right thing by waiting?
The following summer.
I quite like RedCafe but posters and takes like this make it so much more tedious to go through each thread.Yep. They're both shite.
Do you think we wasted that summer chasing Sancho?Do you think that we should have paid 50m extra for that year or did we do the right thing by waiting?
Clueless. They're both good prospects, especially Amad.Yep. They're both shite.
Do you think we wasted that summer chasing Sancho?
No we were absolutely right not to.Do you think that we should have paid 50m extra for that year or did we do the right thing by waiting?
So you think we plugged other gaps in the squad adequately that summer? No. In order to think that I would have to assume that we spend all our time on Sancho and I have no reason to believe that.
Could say the same about Jose signing Matic when Fabinho was begging us to sign him on TV.He is the manager who has already implemented the system and already worked with the player. He knows more than anyone if he is worth is or not
Name me the alternative midfielder who can do the job that is availableCould say the same about Jose signing Matic when Fabinho was begging us to sign him on TV.
Isn't he available because they want to shift him and get his high wages of the books, there's definitely room for negotiation. And for us £68m would be the majority of what we'll spend this summer when we need 5 or 6 players.I was arguing that paying £20 million for Telles with a year left on his contract was bad value for money at the time, understanding a fair price for a player is key and £68 million for FDJ is great value given how important he would be for the team and Ten Hag's system. If Barca wasn't in the situation they're in they'd probably be asking for £80 million plus for him. It's a fair valuation and I can't see them going lower, maybe a few million tops. To satisfy the manager and fanbase, and have the freedom to move on to other targets just pay up, £68 million is spot on for a player of his calibre.
If we can’t afford him maybe we should move onIsn't he available because they want to shift him and get his high wages of the books, there's definitely room for negotiation. And for us £68m would be the majority of what we'll spend this summer when we need 5 or 6 players.
Ah so that's a good start with a new manager, don't trust their judgement on day 1.Could say the same about Jose signing Matic when Fabinho was begging us to sign him on TV.
I don’t know, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist. I’m just a bloke on the internet.Name me the alternative midfielder who can do the job that is available

Indeed Ten Hag knows bestI don’t know, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t exist. I’m just a bloke on the internet.
I think United are banking on nobody else going in for him, which is a realistic thing. Obviously an excellent player with rare talents... But he comes at a big cost. So if one of the few clubs that can afford him don't need that or have someone to play that role, then it's unlikely they spunk up the cash.
City have Rodri and De Bruyne and Pep runs it in a Barca style. They need midfield depth, but not necessarily a new starter who would change their structure.
Liverpool have Thiago as their deep playmaker role.
PSG have Verratti.
Bayern have Kimmich.
After them, you don't really have anyone else who would make sense for De Jong or could get him. It's a hard role to find, and the best clubs already have someone... So it's our chance to get a top player at a good age for a role we are desperate for.
No we were absolutely right not to.
My point is about waiting in the hope a selling club will knock down the price (if that's what we are doing). Does it really work?
Would be nice if both clubs are negotiating but if they are not, are we waiting for them to get desperate?
Nothing wrong with being cut and dried or to the point.I quite like RedCafe but posters and takes like this make it so much more tedious to go through each thread.
What else did we do? An ageing centre forward on a free, a back up 10 and a back up left back was the extent of it, garbage window.
I think the outcome of the window is proof of the pudding. We paid far too much attention getting into briefing wars with Dortmund that summer.Do you think that most clubs actions and inquiries are reported? When a club signs a single player do you think that the buyer only talked to one player, club or agent?

Or sign him and sell fodder at a discount (literally the only way we can sell them) to fund other players. These negotiations aren't going to be the difference in us signing 3 or 4 more players. If we get FDJ over the line at a good price of £68 million it shows we mean business, it calms the manager and fanbase down, then the focus moves onto other positions. I understand utd's waiting game tactic to bring the price down given the circumstances, but Barca also know how important a signing this would be for us and our new manager, so they will most likely be willing to go to the very end of the window too. We'll have to see, I just think that asking price is a great deal as it is.Isn't he available because they want to shift him and get his high wages of the books, there's definitely room for negotiation. Or we just have differing opinions. With one based on the objective outcomes and another based on hoping the club were being sensible. Even with the objective outcomes of previous windows. This tells me that you are not thinking or being disingenuous.
I love shit like this. An asian guy in America meeting a dutch man and trying to convince him to play for an English club.If we sign De Jong we should all pretend it is his achievement only and flood his social media with positivity and follows.

So overpay and then give ours away cheap, a double whammy on our funds? £68m for a player who hasn't been outstanding in La Liga sounds a lot to me. He's not a sure thing in the PL.Or sign him and sell fodder at a discount (literally the only way we can sell them) to fund other players. Lets not pretend hes been rubbish in la ligaSo overpay and then give ours away cheap, a double whammy on our funds? £68m for a player who hasn't been outstanding in La Liga sounds a lot to me. He's not a sure thing in the PL.
That's a textbook transfer business tactics in FIFA or Football Manager. It works there so surely we can adopt the same strategy too.So overpay and then give ours away cheap, a double whammy on our funds? £68m for a player who hasn't been outstanding in La Liga sounds a lot to me. No we should hold on to deadwood instead and either lose them for free or give them new contracts to preserve their valueThat's a textbook transfer business tactics in FIFA or Football Manager. It works there so surely we can adopt the same strategy too.
