Whitwell saying we’ve been told he wants to come. Now it’s the fee. Like I said a week ago 80m euros is cuckoo land stuff with his wages on top. And for those who moan - we don’t have a magical money pit - what we do this summer depends on how much we can get the fees down.

I’m finding myself using the player threads more now since the new tweet threads have a new rule which requires tweets to have a source link to it, tweets from aggregators that is.

Anyone else finding this too?

This may be a little overly cynical, but I wonder if fan engagement numbers, or whatever they're calling it, played a part in that strategy. More traffic when all the news outlets are all over the run up to deadlines day and all that.

We seem to have been paying the quoted price in the end anyway.
I have no idea about fan engagement numbers, but it has been reported about Joel Glazer slowing things down when it comes to the process of completing a transfer. And the end bit which I quoted from Whitwell is self explanatory when it comes to Joel Glazer and his approach to the transfer market. And Whitwell is saying that remains the case.

But having said that, it will come down to the profile of player that is brought to the club, which will determine how things evolve on the football side of the club. So for me, if the club only signs 3 players, and those 3 players are a fit for the play style ten Hag wants to implement both with and without the ball, then that is a successful window.

United are resistant though to straightaway paying what Barcelona demand, given the financial difficulties at the Nou Camp, and do not wish to be Barcelona’s bailout.

He's still waiting for his invite to "draft day"

If our football people are as good in doing their job as much as in creating excuses then we would be winning the treble every year

That's great news, sounded like the player himself was holding this up, if it's now just agreeing a fee we can hopefully negotiate quite rapidly and tie this up in the next few weeks.

I don't mind if this is the big money signing, and the rest are cheaper smarter buys, because a club of our size should be more than capable of making those sort of deals.

I don't think it's going to be de Jong and that's it for CM, we'll likely bring in another albeit someone further down the list as he'll have to be a cheaper alternative.

I think the fact that it's one big fee signing and that it, suggests signing Anthony or Nkunku is now out the window.

We'll likely get de Jong, Timber, cheap DM and that's our business done.
If we sign Timber over an attacker that is gross negligence.

You need to grow up. I'm pretty much the same age because after 34 you might as well stop counting, and I play video games. Should I grow up? I don't work long hours at the business factory, literally ripping my remaining hair out because computer not worky worky, dealing with team members coming to me in tears because Mr Feckface - Director of Fecking Shit Up and External Comms - is fecking their shit up, only to come home to a house full of kids who need me to do everything except wipe their arses and sit watching some crap film about a dumb fish who lost his dad. Boo fecking hoo, feck that shit.

Once they've been herded one by one for their baths or showers and had their school clothes washed and pressed, finally going to sleep after spending the hours of 5:30-9:00 making more noise than Cina's mum during the last spin cycle of a 1600rpm cotton wash, I'm not going to sit and do something boring as shit like read an Avon brochure or find out how many capybaras are left in the wild. I'm pretending to be a fecking Thargoid destroying motherfecking Space Pirate, or building a dynasty made up entirely of inbred monks in CK3 before I invade France (because FECK. THEM.) or flying a tank through a helicopter just in time for Battlefield to lose its shitty connection again.

Yeah you need to grow up but top marks for a creative reply. It made me laugh.

Guarantee if you go on a Spurs forum and ask he’d make plenty of top tens.
Really?!

Gazza
Lineker
Kane
Son
Sol Campbell
Ledley King
Bale
Jimmy Greaves
Modric
Michael Carrick
Glenn Hoddle
Ardiles

That's off the top of my head and without any of the older Spuds players that fans would know (that keeper that my old man always goes on about that scored against us years ago). No chance he makes many top tens and, looking at it, probably few top twenty fives.

Robbie Keane is a legend over there. Berbatov probably higher as well

£45M - £55M sounds about right. Hopefully both clubs can agree to meet in the middle.

Ah I completely missed that quote. Yeah, that's not ideal. I had read elsewhere that delegation was more likely to happen going forward, but it seems that doesn't apply to Florida...

Agree with the last paragraph. I mean as much as a scorched earth policy sounds appealing, it isn't realistic. Ten Hag will live and die by who he can improve/resurrect in the current squad, I feel. In recruitment terms, you wouldn't want them to be anything other than an ideal fit, or it's just more fires to put out later on.

This is the part I was talking about. There were some rumours from less reliable source that we dont have budget for both Nunez and FDJ. I could be completely wrong but this mention by Laurie made me think that Joel definitely had some influence on not getting either deal over the line.

Mind you we may go and buy some other striker for huge amount of money and my assumption could be completely wrong. But i believe we will go for a young upcoming striker for this season if budget constraints are true
Joel is definitely influential and we can only hope the addition of a football man like John Murtough will quicken the process on one side compared to before, as mentioned below. But Joel is also being advised by a former football executive in Mike Forde now, so hopefully we can get the funds over to Barcelona before the final weeks of the transfer window.

#mufc's main focus so far has been De Jong

Just the next Roy Keane we need.

Yeah exactly that. I was going to post a similar question yesterday as hadn't seen anything about De Jong in the main Twitter feed but seems like quite a lot of 'smoke' in here

Surely that’s a steal? If we are buying him for that amount I can see another club swooping in.
I'm factoring recession and inflation, considering the reports that Barcelona want us to front-load the payment(s). If this were last season then I'd agree.

To make my point clearer - with 5 - 10% inflation rate and the inevitable higher interest rates, I believe that a 45M one-time payment will be worth more than 60M spread equally over 5 years.

Whilst I am all for improvements, it seriously baffles me that such delays were previously an issue caused by communication, are all Utd's internal communications routed via the dark side of the moon? last I checked instant communication has been available since errrr... probably the last 80 years

Make a decision and execute it, this club of clowns ffs

Feck it, I had reservations about this cause of the price, wages, and him not particularly wanting to be here, but if the club and ETH are all in and he's our main midfield target, then... feck it, let's do this. I give you my permission, Man Utd. Go, be free, embrace the muppet!

Oh Erik do you know what he's worth?
Our Frenkie is the best on earth.
The silky Dutchman is just what we need
He'll help us stave off the Conference League.

We literally don't even need to change any words:

… Relax, don't do it
When you want to go to it
Relax, don't do it
When you want to come
Relax, don't do it
When you want to sock it to it
Relax, don't do it
When you want to come
When you want to come

We need midfield reinforcement and I expected it this summer, but really didn't expect to sign a player of his quality. Hopefully get it wrapped up soon that the club can move onto other targets.

The problem was exacerbated by the targets said managers were targeting due to how expensive some of the players were. On top of that, we had the likes of Van Gaal and Mourinho who didn't want the buffer of having a football figurehead between themselves and the board. Which meant the non footballing people came to the fore.
