Just occured to me, hypothetically, what if United signed De Jong on a season long loan deal, with only an option to buy?
Pay 100% of his wages with a loan fee to Barca, that would make them happy, and Frenkie is still technically a Barca player, and getting his full wages, which might make him happy.
It's only for one season, which might make his GF happy too...?

Well August 31st is Fax Machine day after all. De Geas transfer to Real Madrid falling through because of this excact scenario is still the wildest thing :p

Frenkie doesnt get CL football, and he has a season for MUFC for "no particular reason".

Without Frenkies extremely special circumstances regarding his deferred wages, this entire puzzle would have been resolved in June at latest.

I saw someone mention that Frenkie doesnt have any leverage with Barcelona. Except he does. He has a contract that Barcelona has to honor, unless they want to take the contact trough the legal system which they have threatened to do.

Its been mentioned that Frenkie seems like a bit of a "pussy" for some reason, while at the same time ignoring that your enormously influental employer is being very public that you need to reduce your wages for the betterment of the team or else, and he still stands his ground. Not everyone can take that kind of heat.

What we know about Erik is that he wants a tight lid on the media coverage of United. It's possible that Frenkie arrived in London, was kept in a hotel and driven to Mayfair to iron out the details, then driven back to the hotel to maintain the media blackout on this potential deal. If, for any reason, we got his entourage to travel to Manchester it'd be very difficult to keep that under wraps. That's just my take.

The whole Frenkie with the suit at the airport is the thing I keep mulling over.

Either there is/was a wedding and in which case the suit makes total sense, but if there wasn't a wedding and he brought a suit with him. Why?

The suit is the giveaway for me. Can't think of any red herring options unless he goes to a funeral with a tombstone engraved with the word 'muppets'
