I've been saying this from the beginning...this saga has been logically simple for anyone paying attention (which is a lot of F-in people).

FDJ would love to stay at Barca, but ONLY at his current salary. He figured he would try as hard and as long as he could to see if thats possible during the window. IF...it became clear to him that it would be impossible to stay at Barca at his current salary. He would be open to a move to us and has made those feelings clear privately. We've patiently waited realizing that the only chance for the move comes from a situation outside of our control.

Thats the situation...hasn't changed other than he might be realizing that his ability to stay at his current salary is impossible (for a myriad of reasons). So now it would appear its time to potentially move. This ain't rocket science...

He is definitely going to sign for us.

Who wouldn't want to play with Casemiro and Eriksen in midfield, under ETH?

Keep the faith.

Short summary:

Fabregas thread 11.972 posts
Sneijder. 13.668
Thiago 15.736
Berbatov 19.383
Sancho pt 1: 53.641
Sancho pts 1 + 2: 64.006

Antony 9.845 and rising
De Jong 68.416 and rising

Congrats, Frenkie! (What does this tell us?)

We LOVE Frenkie!

His present salary doesn't work for a number of reasons. Even if they overcome the obstacles of being able to register Kounde, sign Foyth, sign Silva and register ALL of them without selling De Jong or reducing his salary, then they are left in a situation where - with the new signings and the likes of Busquets and Pique having already 'adapted to the new salary structure' - De Jong is by far the highest paid player at the club. A position that his status does not merit at all, and they can't be happy with a situation where in a squad of Lewandowski, Silva, Pique/Busquets, Dembele, Raphinha - De Jong earns close to double the closest person. He will be far outside their 'salary structure' that Laporta keeps mentioning, and nobody wants a situation where Barca are taking one of their players to court to void his deal.
Exactly this. Can see Lewandowski and the rest fuming at Barca and Frenkie if he's allowed to make thrice as much as them. He'll be bullied and frozen out on a daily basis by all his teammates.

I'm actually surprised they keep playing him, must be hopeful it'll convince him to write off 30 million after bullying him all summer. His agent must be fuming even more.

If he wants to stay on his current salary he just refuses any transfer and he will stay on his current salary. How is that an impossible situation?

Cheers both @Gandalf @Rozay — it really is hard to see Frenkie still being a Barcelona player by the 1st of September with this in mind. Though, crazier things have happened in football, I suppose…

Wouldn’t it be that this will be an end of our window then, and FDJ+Antony will be our only additional signings?

That would be 5 new starters and Eriksen as a rotation option

That's it. Been 'it' since the beginning and is still 'it'. It's why I still think this is very much on. Nice one, it might just be my brain over simplifying it all but at least now I see some other simpleton thinking the same :)

Would you want to work somewhere that you are universally disliked by employers, colleagues and fans? That's Frenkies reality should he dig in and stay. That relationship has been sullied beyond repair now. The ONLY way Frenkie stays and is accepted is if he takes a salary cut.

I hope none of you are besmirching the good name and journalistic integrity of Sport :wenger:

“But why, some say, pursue Frenkie de Jong? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic?

We choose to pursue Frenkie de Jong. We choose to pursue de Jong in this transfer window and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard."
