Yes FDJ and Casemiro would be a great combo.
But when we were just chasing FDJ, I was concerned about us getting over run in midfield with him at number 6. Obviously it would be a good balance now with Casemiro.
Yeah I can't claim to be an expert on De Jong as a player but i've seen this quite a lot and it just seems so lightweight to me. Teams cut through our midfield easily enough as it is.
Casemiro is a very important signing in that regard and Fred has an important part to play, not as a 6 though (shudders)

O don't know of casemiro was planned from the start or a panic buy but if the latter it might be due to Eric realizing the importance of a physical anchor like him in the team after the mauling we got.
He might have tried to play de jong the same as barca do but I'm pretty sure he won't do so now which is a positive.
