swear to god, if we go from 60 to 100 million for Antony and the only thing that stopped FDJ coming to us was not paying the alleged payout that barca are refusing to pay, i'll fecking lose it.:nervous:
We agreed a fee with Barcelona so what more can we do? It’s up to FDJ to make the call on what he’s owed and whether a deal can be reached. Could well be posturing by him to squeeze more money from Barcelona before he finally settles or else it’s his way of remaining at Barcelona. Neither scenario is anything United can influence.

And we'll also get him, if he moves

I’m sure Chelsea will be fishing around but I think we would win that race to be honest.

FDJ has been openly the number one target this summer and very important to ETH.

Irrespective of what business we have done or do the club won’t sit on its hands and do nothing should the situation change this week and it becomes clear he will move.

Anyone who thinks that is talking shite.

That said I don’t think he will move.

I've got a Question.

It was the deal with De Jong that expired, right? Not the fixed fee with Barca?
I’m pretty sure it was the deal with Barca - we never had a deal with De Jong (apart from the rumour from one quite good journo we had a deal with the agent)

Whilst I don't expect him to leave Barcelona, if he does I can't imagine that funds wouldn't be made available to sign him.

Yeah I agree we can't do any more from our side, however my frustration is not having a deal in place for another playmaker if he does end up staying as looks to be happening.

What are we thinking now about this?

5% chance it gets done :/
I think he will be our last signing last week of the window. We sign Antony in next few days. Barca will start to squirm and we will come to a compromise on getting FDJ his wages.

Problem is he hasn't squirmed about staying during this whole saga so don't see that changing. I had the tiniest hope until that Whitwell & Stone brief when we agreed deal for Casemiro.

The unexpected signing of Casemiro could turn Frenkie's head. He knows that he'd now have a top-class partner in midfield.

Honestly think if he was that open it would have

A already happened
B brief would say Utd still in for De Jong despite getting Casemiro

FDJ is playing this as cool and calm as he possibly can. Fans have turned on him. Xavi‘s statements point to them absolutely needing him to take a massive wage cut. FDJ is just waiting on his money. I don’t see him staying. Barca are still trying to sign players. Plus, I don’t see us letting him go to Chelsea if they go in for him in the last week. We will step up and offer a huge contract and he will choose ETH and United. Missing CL for one season is not that big of a deal. There are also no guarantees Chelsea won’t be dumped out of CL like Barca were last year. They could also miss out on top 4. It’s a gamble either way.

Busquets is injured so he should in theory start today, im gonna watch the game and use my body language expertise*wink wink* to see whether he's coming or not.

Stay tuned!

I think the only positive we can maybe take is the usual Utd journos wrote off us signing Antony earlier in the window, admittedly has turned due to money and his desire but just maybe a couple of signings might still change De Jong's stance

He's not going to Chelsea. Why is this so difficult for many to understand?

They haven't even made a bid yet and that was contingent on De Jong being open to move to them.

They're as much as a shitshow as we are except we're looking to build something with his former coach whereas they're throwing shit at the wall and Tuchel will be sacked soon.

If he wanted to come it would be done already. At this point, I'm not even sure if it is worth getting in a player whose heart is not fully in especially with such massive fans expectation.

Yeah, this is my biggest concern these days, too. Maybe in a season he'll disenfranchise himself from Barcelona somehow but at the moment I get the impression that if he joined us he'd not be in the right mindframe to drive the team. The guy clearly has his heart set on Barca to put up with all this.

Or he’s a stubborn fecker who just wants the money Barcelona promised him.

I don't understand.

Who was going to pay his deferred salary? You? Because Barca aren't willing to pay it and United sure aren't going to cave in so early to cover it.

You, or anyone else, expect him to come and give up €20m?

His preference is to stay at Barca but the main reason he hasn't left is most certainly due to the deferred salary issue.

Who said anything about him giving up his deferred wages. What I was trying to say is his preference is to stay at Barcalona. If he wanted to join us, like Casemiro, while the deferred salary is certainly a sticking point, I'm sure both clubs and the player can already find a compromise. it benefits no one with this Mexican standoff , least of all us who needed to strengthen late in the window.

There were even report of us paying more to offset his deferred salary. At this point I'm not even sure if it is worth while to push through a deal for a player that is not keen to come. There was an earlier poster who quoted Hristo Stoichkov which I thougth was quite apt, if he comes he might end up being our Stoichov.

I think he is trying to do what Dembele did.

12/1 to go to Chelsea, for all those who are certain that he’s going there
