New episode out:

- Laporte likes De Jong but De Jong earns 2x - 3x more than other players, which causes issues in the dressing room.
- Bunch of players have been cleared out on big contracts already.
- United have a deal with Barcelona to sign De Jong.
- Need to wait and see if he starts on Saturday for Barca, Mitten was told no, he won't start, so let's see what happens.
- Mitten was told be a Barcelona source that they 'think' they'll be able to register all the players before the weekend.
- Barca and Madrid tend to get what they want.
- No interest in the Real Betis midfielder. No bid for the PSV forward either but milage in that one.
- Advanced discussions underway for Rabiot. Comparisons between Rabiot and Pereria in terms of type of player and ability. Signing wouldn't fix most of the problems on display against Brighton, but would be an upgrade on McFred, in the wrong way.
- United are panicking in the window now.
- Strikers market is incredibly difficult at the moment, some clubs have been looking for 6 months and still can't find anyone.
- United would sell Bailly tomorrow but the offers are around £2m or a loan with no buy option/low loan fee.
- Can't loan or sell Brandon Williams because his salary is beyond the reach of clubs outside of European competition. United valued him at £20m and tried to sell him last summer.
- Ten Hag was the one who pushed for the signing of Arnautovic.

So did he not say how confident he was etc

I mean jesus this saga has to end soon right? Squeaky bum time on registering players for barca and all indications are that they cant right now unless moving someone like FDJ.

I didn't think things could keep getting worse, yet here we are.

I will have to listen to it but why would anyone pay 20m for Brandon Williams? It's as daft as the 150m rumours that we had about Pogba, are they consuming illegal narcotics?

Aye like they took Martinez, literally 2 weeks ago. We doomed

Ya because Martinez is exactly the same level as FDJ… I also said main transfer targets. If we didn’t have ETH I doubt Martinez would have had much of a preference between the two clubs currently but as it stands he’s low hanging fruit of the expensive variety. Aye?

Do you see the parallels here?

I’m more worried about his salary. How high is it ffs?

An average PL wage is too high for non CL clubs outside of the PL, so even if it was 60k per week it would be too much.

If Frenkie de Jong is earning massively more than the rest of Barca players, with Barca realising they're overpaying these players and scrambling now to back out of such troublesome contracts (we all agree they agreed grossly excessive and irresponsible salaries) surely we're at least matching that salary.

Isn't that basically shooting ourselves in the foot? Are we overlooking the potential of causing a wage structure issue for our own dressing room?

I just can't wait for his welcome interview;

"So Frenkie, how does it feel to join the biggest club in the world"

Not even close. We’re going to be linked with him for the next 20 transfer windows

His salary is too high for PL clubs outside of CL and EL, which is worrying because he's bottom half of the PL in terms of ability.

I would be surprised if it was too high for most of them. The issue is likely the combination of salary that doesn't match his level, transfer fee and his level. Unless he has a way above average salary.

Take them on in what context?

Competing with a football team? Absolutely no chance.
It must have been Santa Claus who got tactically outwitted by Tuchel in the champions league final. Tuchel beat pep 3 games in a row last year.

Not bad for someone with “no chance”.

So did he not say how confident he was etc
The update was more geared toward how annoyed he was at aggregators isolating a quote out of 9 things he said and making it look like its positive.

He said his job is to deliver pieces of information as he heard them, not to deliver news that people like.

He said he was getting tired of aggregators quoting something and then quoting something else in isolation to make him sound stupid.

Basically quit going on one line where he says he's more confident and ignore all other pieces of information he's given - that's what he's pissed off about. This weeks' update had more time on that than anything tangible.

I think it's a case of him being one of the highest earners at a lower club and being no where near the level or experience to justify it. They can get the same quality player from the Championship on a much lower contract.

Williams was always a pretty good player tbh, he held his own in Europe. Sure, he didn't end up making the grade for us it seems, but I never freaked out if he was on the lineup at all. Quite liked him at times, really. £20m is perhaps a touch high for a fullback, though I suppose he may have had about 3 years on the contract at the time, not sure. Hope he has a good career wherever he ends up.

I would imagine we would be on par with his regular salary expectations. iirc Barca were paying him around €12M/year before Covid, and the current contract is still paying him €60M over the 5 year duration of his contract. If would be mental to say "well actually, due to my deferred payments, this year I'm getting paid €28M and I'd like my new club to match that!"

People on here have been changing the deadline since Jul. Watch this gets dragged till end of the transfer window.

Can folks please read the thread before making inaccurate statements? Literally just posted 15 min ago that the deadline is Aug 31, but Barça obviously wanted everyone registered before the Rayo match. So Friday is the self-imposed deadline, Aug 31 is the actual deadline.

Why the hell do Chelsea want him btw?

I've just looked at their squad and it's nothing special (I said the exact same thing last year, and they finished on 74 pts 10 months later instead of the highly anticipated title challenge  ) but CM is one of their positions which shouldn't be a priority this summer...they have 2 capable CBs, Silva and Koulibaly, 38 and 31 years old respectively, the only quality winger they have is Sterling, and no striker other than Broja to top it all off...but Tuchel doesn't seem to rate the Albanian.

They need 1-2 CBs, a right winger, a striker, meanwhile they got Kovacic, Jorginho, Kanté, Gallagher and Chukwuemeka for the 2 central positions in midfield.

Agreed, that's what I had in mind.

So did Ole the year before last, to be fair
Of course, but Tuchel’s wins were actually convincing and visibly the better team. Our wins under ole were so lucky. We were hanging on in those victories by a thread.

This thread is fecking terrible for updates. Has anything changed since we (Chelsea) became favourites to sign him yesterday?

He was a main target.

Arsenal where in for him. You have invented this scenerio where arsenal for some reason be getting our main targets, and I'm pointing out how daft it is what you are saying by pointing out the obvious, that this has happened lately that is the only facts we can deal on here until something else happens down the line.

You've actually invented a few fantasy situations here, one where arsenal are taking up targets which hasn't happened, and now Martinez only here because of Hag, has zero relevance to anything. Your auntie had balls all that.............

Also arsenal are a big club in their own right so not exactly burnley.

Kante and Jorginho's contracts expire next summer. But agree, CM is hardly their current biggest priority.
