It's in the bag boys. Amirite?
Something hasn't sat right with me throughout all of this.
Chelsea had nothing to lose by putting a bid in right away. All the reports, if you chose to believe them, said that he wanted to join them, so why wait? Surely thats showing hesitation on Chelseas end? If he TRULY wanted to go to Chelsea, as soon as the bid went in, and they paid his wages off, he'd be gone.
People say they don't want to get burned again... why would it matter? They've got the money to just go elsewhere again.

Wheres the tweet that says Chelsea has agreed terms? Must have missed that one
But why would it matter?Probably didn't want to waste time negotiating a fee, writing up bid documents until they knew. The fact they're at least doing that now suggests he's on the move.
At this moment in time it feels like this is our only hope now.Open question to all -
Over the last decade when United have been in battle for a key player against a better team, they've just thrown the money at it.
Chelsea need a defender and a striker more and with De Jong too, they're closing in on £400m spent. Surely there's a limit to what they can spend on a midfielder. They can't just keep spending.
So... Do you think should just throw the money at it again and blow Chelsea out the water to avoid the backlash if they don't sign him - Or should they stay true to their limits and risk the likelihood he'll choose Chelsea if money is similar?
I didn't see any tweet, hence why i asked. The guys who are reliable have said it's still just interest, so i thought maybe they'd said differently. It says Chelsea are going to pay the same and the decision is with the player. I’m not saying it’s correct, but the article quite clearly states it’s Frenkie’s decision to make.
If you going to be pedantic and claim that there is no official wording about terms being agreed with Barca then fair enough. The most important part is that it’ll be Frenkie’s choice (if their information is correct).
I am amazed how low people think of us, that’s all. I feel confident that we will beat Chelsea if he moves from Barca. We are not in the CL, but we will be soon enough. We are a much bigger club than them and we got a excellent manager in EtH.
So yes, if it’s between us and Chelsea, we will show everyone who we are.
So no tongue in cheek or itk act. It’s pure confidence in us. Can end in tears though.
This has dragged on so much I am barely excited about the prospect of him playing for us, I just want us to sign him so that Gerard Romero and Managing Barca look like mugs.
I’d love if someone who wasn’t a poster on here or didn’t really like football read through this thread to see what their reaction would be. “Mental illness”, I imagine.
Challenge. Accepted. It's just being realistic though. All the noise is that he wants to go there, there's no smoke without fire. The stories that they'd only go for him if they were sure he wanted to join them, and then now working on the offer, suggests they've had satisfactory discussions.
If everyone was saying he wants us and not Chelsea then that would be different. But us being linked to all these other midfielders and reportedly close to giving up... You can't ignore it and pretend to be confident.
At Chelsea he will be just another midfielder in a list of very good options, but at United he will be the lynchpin.
I think if it wasn’t for the eventful transfer saga Chelsea have experienced this summer, they would have probably already put the bid in as soon as they were interested.Something hasn't sat right with me throughout all of this.

All the noise is he wants to go there, and i bet at least 99% of it is pure opinion. Because de Jong hasn't actually said anything, it's hard to say what he'd want. Reporters are just using the CL as the main reason as to why he'd want to go to Chelsea. Ornstein says that there's no preference and that CL won't be the deciding factor. And how do we know that they're actually agreeing a fee and submitting a bid? The last reliable stuff we heard was still just interest?
We will pretty much never officially say anything about players we don't get.Until we officially say anything about our offer etc then there must be some indication that all is not lost.

Frenkie’s agent manages about 4 of our players and was Malacia’s agent. There must be open dialogue and certainly if there was a definite no-way then we would know.
I don’t buy into all this hysteria that we are just flapping around in the dark waiting without any idea what the player wants.
That's not to say though that if another better offer comes to the table that wouldn’t change things.
In which De Jong told Chelsea that he won't leave Barcelona, according to the same reportsI thought there had been a lot of stories saying Chelsea are pushing on. One of the Chelsea posters gave a run down last night and said Boehly has been having telephone conversations with him. Definitely not 'just interest' which would make no sense right now as it looks like coming to a head. They're either in or they're not.

He’ll probably tell us he’s even more confident than last week that the FDJ situation will be decided soon.Anyone know roughly what time the Talk of Devils podcast comes out? It's every Thursday right? So should hear something soon I bet from Mitten again

It's all from Ben Jacobs i'd imagine, but no one really knows how reliable he is. Some say he is, most say he's not amazingly so. I have no idea. I'm not doubting that Chelsea are in for him, but saying that Boehly has been on the phone to him often... how exactly would they know? Have they tapped phone lines and the sorts? I think a lot of that is just speculation and opinion to build a narrative. Bit like EtH always on the phone to him... i don't think he has been you know. How would anyone know? It's not like EtH is going to openly admit it!I thought there had been a lot of stories saying Chelsea are pushing on. It will come to an end by the weekend when players are registered for first game.Let’s hope this saga comes to an end this week/today, one way or another.
Except it will because no one else wants to pay what United have already agreed to pay. At 50m it's a different story.I think more clubs will join the bidding process if he finally decided to quit Barca. PSG,Juventus, chelsea and obviously united.
It will not end only united or chelsea. That's the idea of barcelona too. If big teams come in for him they will milk more money from them.
