Fofana is well know, but Auba and Casadei isn't really published much. It's wishful thinking but you never know.
His normal salary was €260k p/w before this season started and the deferred payments were added on. Assuming the deferred money is sorted out we could pay him the same and he’d earn more than at Barca due to currency differences and slightly lower tax.

Even though it’s unlikely, a midfield of FDJ, Rabiot and Bruno/Eriksen is something that would be of even more concern. That is possibly the most passive midfield in the league.

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to pay it - which tells you why leaking their interest would be of benefit to Barcelona. You only need to look at this thread - it’s gone from we shouldn’t pay to pay him whatever he wants to see why it could have an impact.

De Jong is fairly unique, to be fair. His main attribute is his ability to dribble the ball through midfield, which is somewhat unusual for a player who likes to play as the deepest midfielder and pick up the ball from the CBs.
There are better passes around (Fabian Ruiz included) and better dribblers, but not very many players who perform the precise role he does in the way he does.
I'm not sure who would be the ideal alternative, given who's left. Ismaël Bennacer, maybe?

I agree, the term smokescreen gets used too freely here ... I mean who exactly are smokescreens for? I highly doubt that daily twitter rumors about United even come on the radar of the boards of other clubs.
Smoke screens are primarily for the media and supporters, say that a club wants to do a high profile deal for a player but there is a real possibility that if wont come of which would lead to a bad mood amongst supporters.. so they leak a story about their interest about some xy player who they even dont wanna sign, or a player that they know they can sign quickly if needed. Then if the big move for the prime target is successful, they can pleasantly surprise supporters. But I highly doubt that other clubs concern themselves with reading random twitter rumors about the moves of their competitors. If there is something significant happening with a player they're interested in.. they get informed by that players agent and not from the media surely.

Nobody stands to gain a thing from peddling a false narrative that Chelsea are seriously in for FdJ.

Only reason I can think is to hurry things along.. Barca need to register their players for the weekend and there’s been an apparent stalemate between us and Barca on paying Frenkies owed wages all summer.
