There’s a part of me that thinks ETH played McTominay and Fred today just to show how badly we need to push the De Jong deal through and if he did do that he literally had it spark off as that pairing is fecking awful.
At this point I’d just pay the other £17 million so we can bed De Jong in as fast as possible and not subject him to watching more of McTominay and Fred as he’ll end up changing his mind if he hasn’t already.
With how piss fecking poor we are we have to pay over the odds as all we have to offer at the moment and for most of the last decade is money, if ETH needs De Jong in order to implement his system then pay the money as we’re not an attractive proposition outside of financially.

I agree Fred is ‘somewhat decent’ but why put ‘very good/world class’ next to ‘somewhat decent’. You don’t win consistently with ‘somewhat decent’. In the short term it’s ok to utilise either but looking at January/next Summer neother should be starting.

It's as if we're acting as a club with decent midfielders with no pressure to strengthen. It's been utterly bizarre. Hopefully this is a big wake up call to ETH to understand the strength and competitiveness of the PL and understand that we can't afford to piss around chasing a player who clearly has no intention of joining. Give him a clear deadline, then move on and bring in some actual midfielders.

Today, our build play was way too slow. We started well, but after that, especially when Fred made the mistake, we lacked control of the game. De Jong would give us that. For example, when Eriksen went into the 6 role, we played better. Didn't have enough up top, but that's for another discussion.
