Frenkie alone won't solve our problems, we need another robust DM alongside him.

Do we have budget for 2 midfielders including Frenkie? If not then use his money to buy two midfielders. Otherwise we are fecked.

It's as if we're acting as a club with decent midfielders with no pressure to strengthen. It's been utterly bizarre. Hopefully this is a big wake up call to ETH to understand the strength and competitiveness of the PL and understand that we can't afford to piss around chasing a player who clearly has no intention of joining. Give him a clear deadline, then move on and bring in some actual midfielders.

I know right, I'm not seeing anything special at all about ETH... Yes its early days and he needs time, but I want to see a ruthless manager that will actually drop players.

Instead he's stuck with McFred through the pre-season and starts them today.

If they start vs Brentford his a dead man walking.

The damage is done? This is a big project and it won’t be defined by the first game of season one.

You’ve no idea what you’re talking about and the fact the first thought you’ve had post game is to bump this thread and dig out those quotes speaks volumes.

Sad.

Aye damage is done.

Best part of 3 months spent chasing a player to be mugged off by him. If he can feckin well convince a former player to join his project it absolutely speaks volumes of his character / charisma (lack there of).

We now have 24 days left to panic buy and over spend. Any club we enter into negotiations with will know the funds we have left as the bid was accepted by Barca and considering there is so little time left they will want extra compensation as a replacement is quite unlikely.

You'd think having been here before a few times as a club already you'd consider this?

Dare to disagree with them, you get comments like "why are you in this thread" or "go support some other team" as if they are some model fans we need to look upto.

Yep, some folks just want an echo chamber and to live in fantasy land and pretend were still the biggest and best club in world football.

We'll finish midtable at best this year and we'll go into next summer a mess too I reckon.. Murtuagh will be shown up then for failing too, although he already is this summer.

Does feel a stretch too far, he'll need a lot more quality around him and the fear for him is 2 or more seasons in Europa while this slow process at the club goes on probably in part with long chases of big name buys and we have stuff ready for the landfill to pass to.

That can be fine if you have a decent car to make improvements. We get a couple of expensive parts and stick them in a cart.

Why are you adding insult to injury by suggesting we need 2xFDJ when even 0.5xFDJ seems like a remote possibility?

Really? After one match?

In 2022 we have played 25 competitive games. We have won just 8, drawn 7 and lost 10! The squad is even weaker than last season also. Ralf wasn’t wrong suggesting we need 10 new players.

Yes we have a new manager but he has already fallen at the first hurdle and I can see it only going from bad to worse before this month ends with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal to play. His substitutes and the way we set up from kick off today were bizarre to say the least.

This is a club in complete disarray. Most of us fans, regardless if publicly negative, can see it has absolutely no chance of challenging for anything, EtH isn’t changing that. It is also clear to any top player out there, so why the hell would FDJ come here unless he has no other option?

I’m not even sure EtH will see out a year in charge if something drastic doesn’t happen in the remainder of this window. We need to go for alternative targets and fast.

Decent points but you're missing the point, its not about 1 negotiation, it's about having the competency to build a squad. ETH has limited expertise with this, as Ajax was very well run in that regard & we aren't.

The mistake was not holding on to Ralf. Ralf was right, we have too many deadwood players (just analyze our wage budget vs. City/Pool/Spurs/Chelsea for xG & xGA - its like you let a child play FIFA 22 career mode)

ETH's view that he can maximize what's here is too overconfident. We have too many squad players who don't fit the new philosophy (BW/AVB/McTominay/DVB/Maguire/Rashford) that are taking up valuable spots we need to develop younger players.

SAF had the balls to do it when he took over and worked well. LVG had the balls to do this with SAF's winners & given time i think he would have won us a major trophy. Mourinho tried but didn't have the backing & the whole transfer strategy was a mess. If we ever want to get back to the top, you have to ruthlessly get rid of overpaid/underperforming squad level players & restart.

With FDJ specifically, the optimal strategy would be to buy 2 midfielders, 1 young to develop & while also chasing FDJ. That way if FDJ doesn't pan out, you still have options with new CM, Garner, Iqbal. Again its the incompetence in squad building strategy that is our achilles heel.

How and why we weren't in for Bissouma will continue to amaze as the season unfolds. Such an obvious and doable transfer.

I hope the Board realises that, even if we do a deal for DeJong, signing DeJong won't solve half the issues that are wrong with the Man Utd midfield.

We were warned by he who shall not be named that the team needed open heart surgery, up to 10 players.

DeJong is great at what he does. Sadly he won't be able to protect our back for on transitions.

This bloke if he was to leave Spain will have every top club in europe come for him and you'd think he'd chose to come to this career wrecking club? Especially after seeing what happened to Donny, a guy that even Madrid wanted who became so trash barely even played at Everton on loan...

Ten Hag in the mud.

Well, wasn't it ETH that made this decision? That's what most reputable sources have said as far as I am aware.

Agreed and its a concern already.

Pep rocked up to City and out went Joe Hart quick sharp!

Definitely need them, failing that have the balls to drop 1 of McFred and promote Iqbal, Savage or Garner at least. I know it wouldn't be great to start with but hey, we'd all have evidence he is trying something different to Jose and Ole at least.

He has a criminal trial coming up i believe. Kamara who went to Villa on a free and Haidara from back in the January windows are the ones i dont get skipping.

It's so blatantly obvious what Romero's up to.

We've got Romano with his Here We Go!
We've got Falk with his True or False bollocks.
Now Romero is capitalising on his 15 minutes of fame to get his "Things are happening" shtick over.

I just find myself reading everything you post and shaking my head.

Would be surprised if Spurs weren't given certain assurances on likely outcome beforehand.

Think there could also be a bigger issue of players simply not wanting to come this summer too. Not just FDJ, but Nunez supposedly was similarly inclined. Not to forget a second choice free keeper choosing to sit on Brentford's bench over ours.

Wouldn't be surprised if the way in which we've treated certain players (Henderson, Romero, Lingard, VdB) isn't making players think twice about joining.

He would bring more composure on the ball, make himself available but the shower of shite around him won't do him any favors.
Him and eriksson could form a good partnership as both comfortable on the ball in tight spaces but play different positions.

We just need a ball playing keeper, striker as well and we might make top 5 - got to stay positive

Yeah, really wish we were in Barcelona's shoes now.. :boring:
I don’t get this arrogant attitude from our fans though. Barcelona make more money than us and have a better team. Like it or not it’s the truth.

“If” they can dig themselves out which is very very possible given their resources it’s a Job well done. I’ll give the new regime their credit tbh.

They slighted Frankie De Jong but I very much doubt that will be remembered in 10 years time if they pick up some trophies in the next year or two.

I hope we give this guy a chance as I truly believe he can build a squad if given time.

he needs to be ruthless over the next transfer window or two and get rid of bad attitude players, not good enough and be backed properly

I’m still hoping two more players This transfer window

Yeah, selling club properties, that's a right thing to do.
We don’t know how it’s going to play out. They have more assets and make more money than we do so I guess they are down to our level now for medium term?
