Whitwell, United correspondent from The Athletic, just discussing De Jong on Sky now pre match.

Repeating United are confident of a deal but wages and agent fees are holding it up. No mention of anything else.

Absolutely ridiculous if money is the only thing holding this up
It’s pretty much all about money. How much money is he worth? What transfer fee are we willing to pay? How much salary can we pay? How much of a pay off will he accept?

If money wasn’t important he’d probably just stay there or join his preferred club for free and we wouldn’t get a sniff. As it is he want his money, Barca want their money, Barca actually want to keep some of his money and we are trying to pay as little as possible (but appear willing to pay a fair amount).

Money.

You would think that, but they have an ambitious American owner who wants to make a statement this summer. You could look at what moves he’s sanctioned with the LA dodgers and realize this man loves the spotlight. Really wish we had an owner with his passion for sport and winning.

There must limitations in terms of FFP though. They’ve bought big with Werner, Havertz and Lukaku in recent years without getting massive fees back.

Going this week on a permanent. But the other 2 you're correct. I am sure there is some sort of leeway with FFP and new owners. I could swear i read it somewhere.

I'm not a fan of Romero, i think he's a chancer and a bulls hitter. If he was a horse racing tipster he'd be advising everyone to back the favourite in every race.

I think no-one really doubted that the deferred wages were a major obstacle. The question is will he accept a settlement offer from Barca and then will he have options as to where he goes? I don’t see that there is any particular reason to be confident but we can always hope.
If it helps the Utd media were amongst the first to talk about the wages and have maintained that stance when everyone had doubts
They`ve also doubled down constantly on the fact that they wouldn`t be this far down if the player didn`t want to join so let`s see

Whitwell giving us a bit of hope there.

Agent fees an issue now. That would suggest FDJ has given the green light for the agent to thrash out all his terms and even suggests that his part is pretty much agreed. I would think we’ll give on the agent fees. Just leaves Frenkie to agree a settlement with Barca (which they basically want us to pay but they can get fecked).

The overnight reports seem to have it a lot more in the balance than yesterday mornings reports did.

I also think Tuchel was being genuine, but I think Bohley is going to be one of those owners who buys players he wants, not necessarily what the manager has asked for.

Anyway, it’s absolutely on and he’ll be ours by the time we play next week. Back on the train. Choo fecking choo

Admire the confidence but not enough noise for me that Chelsea have stepped away

Yeah, I just want to hear it from the player. Good things come to those who wait.

This will drag on until deadline day. By that point Frenkie will have seen how amazing our football under Ten Hag is and decide that we're the right team to join. It's all coming together nicely.

Im back in boys. Never in doubt. Just needed a bit of positivity after the last few days of Romero BS

Right. Spanish media now catching up with what United sources have been saying all all along. It’s about the 17m he’s owed.
They’re saying whatever the feck they think will get the clicks. The actual journo’s ITK have been pretty consistent with what the issues really are

He's supposed to be earning 29m gross according to his contract...

Wanting to stay at a club that's been dicking him around and been skint to pay him what he's owed while splurging unprecedented sums is quite the choice though

He's too spineless just like how he plays when the going gets tough and his teams are getting spanked.

This confirms it for me, this is a power play by Barcelona to get United to cover De Jong's wages. All of a sudden now after Tuchel said they aren't interested in adding a midfielder, now PSG are in the mix. It's laughable

Yeah they will use every team possible out there to call Utd's bluff that is obvious

I’d love to see how much spine you have when you’re owed €25m and your employer is refusing to pay you. You’d probably handcuff yourself to the front gate, and no one would blame you at all.
