Us signing De Jong would be the equivalent of City going out and spending big on another attacking midfielder despite already having De Bruyne, Mahrez, Foden, Bernardo, and Grealish. It’s just nonsensical without us selling off 3-4 midfielders.

This is why I don’t believe these links no matter how many sources confirm our interest.
Above all that you have a new owner desperate to make a statement in the transfer market. He obviously wants a big signing and the opportunities are dwindling.

I thought he was responding sarcastically as in - we want Frenkie?
Nah that was definitely a “!” Not a “?” He wants Frenkie, we want Frenkie. Chelsea can go feck themselves.

How is that an excuse? They're saying that Barca are holding the deal up with the wage issue whilst making out as if it's United that are the problem?
Thats not an excuse, thats putting across a reason for the delay!

If whats been said today is true, expect others to start reporting it soon. If they don't, then it's not worth getting stressed over
The English reports from the past few weeks were all about how nothing has changed since the bid went in and we were prepared to wait for the situation to resolve even till deadline day, and now we have statement about how the club is frustrated with the delays. And it's come in since the Chelsea interest has gathered pace.

The tone has clearly changed, It's almost as if the club is readying itself to walk away

I think that's unfair, he's a very good midfielder but he excels in a role that Ten Hag values, which is why he would be more valuable to Utd than maybe another club and probably why the summer has been spent chasing him.

I'm torn on this all, on the one hand I think the club should support the manager and provide him the tools to implement his ideas. On the other hand if it doesn't work out you're kinda starting a rebuild again because of that specificity and needing to adapt to a new approach.

It's all a bit fecked.
Yeah, he's not a bad player but people talking like, we get him, we start challenging.

This won't be resolved this week. It sounds like Barca must sort out their registrations by 13th.

They are still saying in publicly it's up to FDJ to leave or sign a new deal completely ignoring the existing signed deal. This is all just bluster for the press and ultimately the fans.

FDJ is waiting for Barca to finally give up their media assault on him, and make a full and final settlement offer to him on his deferred wages so he can leave. Allegedly they already offered 7m which is less that half what he is owed, so when time comes short he'll probably cut a deal at around 12m.

What happens if they don't resolve it by the 13th? A number of their new signings will only get to play during the CL group stages? Or do they deregister FDJ and he just collects his massive salary and plays golf like Gareth Bale?

United can't legally pay an additional 17 m for Barca to use it to pay his wages.

That doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. If that were the only issue, United could just pay de Jong an additional 17m signing on bonus.

We want Frenkie? I don’t know. As he giggled like a school child. Clearly uncomfortable with the question either way.

It’s on

Frenkie question and response at 7:50. @JJ12 is right it’s more of a ”?” Than a “!” Although he’s rude calling me pigeon shit, the stinking bell end that he is. Video starts choppy but gets better.

I've heard some voices that de Jong and his agent would lie to ETH that he wants to come. I don't understand why would he do that? What would be his gain by doing so?

He obviously knows more than he's letting on, which is why i just can't get my head around the whole "matter of fact he wants Chelsea" thing.
As i say, surely if it's true, he'd have been told a few days ago, which then makes the briefs we've done over the last few days absolutely pointless and down right decietful. Then again, i'm pretty sure if he had flat out rejected United for Chelsea, the media would have caught on by now and Chelsea would have their bid in.

Although I agree it would leave your midfield bloated it is different to City’s situation. Because Chelsea signing FDJ, I think he walks into your side and is no.1 in the pecking order for the double pivot position.

Tuchel and the owners would probably rather deal with trying to shift the other players on or accept at Kante and Jorginho playing bit part roles before they leave next summer.

It’s a bit like Utd’s approach with Ronaldo last summer. We didn’t really need him as we had Cavani, Martial and Greenwood as striker options. But they choose to bring Ronaldo in as they felt he brought value to the first XI.

Im semi erect now.

In all seriousness though, ETH has really handled the media well so far. We've thrown him in the middle of a shit storm ALREADY, and he has done very well for someone whos first language is not English.

I mean, from what we know, United could 100% do that. I assume that we are simply unwilling to. Frenkie is owed £0 by Barca. The only money they are contractually obliged to pay are things like loyalty/performance bonuses and his salary, which they are currently doing. Frenkie could leave tomorrow and Barca wouldn't legally owe him a penny.

Just some advice for future; I find that it’s best to usually ignore the voices in my head when I’m playing with my sock puppets.

Forget about Frenkie and him coming to United. I would be more worried about the voices that you are hearing to start with.

Not if you consider that Jorginho will be 31, Kante will be 32 next season and Kovacic has always been injury-prone throughout his career. I don't think there's any equivalence with the City situation.

Ooooh i seriously doubt that. We brought him in because we didn't want him going to City. Simple as.

You can pretty much be sure if it was another club he was linked too (aside from the Dippers), we'd have likely just let him go, but because it was City and the rivalry between the clubs and how bad it would have looked on United just letting him go, we stepped in. I don't think we had any true intentions of bringing him back, but he's still a class player and the marketability of him was dollar signs in the glazers eyes too

The location thing is a nonsense in my opinion. Neither London or Manchester has a beach or sun. You’d live rurally in both areas not central.

CL football is literally the only thing. If he doesn’t want to be part of what we are looking to do at United feck him.
Although I agree the location thing should be a nonsense, I still think it’s a big factor for footballers. London seems to be the place to be for footballers and possibly more importantly for their WAGs. I do think it plays a big influence in their decision. Especially foreign footballers.

Why is it a shock?

He keeps repeating "we want the right player and not just any player".

How many links have we had to another CM?

He has specific targets in place - Martinez, Malacia and Eriksen being particular targets. De Jong is a specific target.

Antony was one specific target and now he's after Ziyech - another one of his Ajax lads.

The De Jong transfer never looked like it'd be straighforward from the start. So, yes colour me shocked that a competent manager would decide not to have an alternate target while knowing his sole target is likely to be involved in a drawn-out saga. It's probably all speculation anyway.

Whilst this is true, your new owner does seem to be on the tilt a bit - he has functionally infinite funds but little idea of what he's doing and appears to be stumbling around throwing money at whoever is trending at any given moment. Your need for a midfielder like De Jong is pretty much nil, but buying him seems exactly like something Boehly would do.

But signing Frenkie this summer means either they are selling off Jorginho or Kante or Frenkie rides the pine.

They can’t “legally” but it’s easy to do via loopholes. Increased transfer fee, increased sign on fee.

I just think Utd have been insistent they don’t want to pay what Barca owe.

Stumbled across this tweet. This ain’t good news! Apparently Harry Redknapp has been told from someone at the very top at Utd that de Jong wants to go to Chelsea. :( I’m wondering if it’s Fergie who’s told him this.

For what it's worth, I know for a fact that Sir Alex and Harry Redknapp were doing some commercial stuff in Cheshire on Monday & Tuesday this week.

If location is was such a factor, no one would come to England full stop. Some of the best players in the world currently live in Manchester, and their wags too. Hell even Lionel Messi was considering it last year… Cristiano Ronaldo is here.

It all comes down to money and football at the end of the day. Players retire when they’re mid 30s, they can go sit in the sunshine then.

Why would Fergie do that though, knowing the image of United and the board to the fans is at a low point at the moment, why would he spill something like that knowing it'd get back to the press or mentioned on an interview? He's just contributing to the fans hating the club and the board even more, doing us absolutely no favours. Unless he's a chaotic kinda guy who loves seeing fans protest and the sorts?

Why not... as was said before, he's nothing to gain, but he's nothing to lose either.

It boosts listening figures for his show and gets people calling in and the sorts. If it turns out he was wrong, he could just say he was given bad information, or something changed at the last moment. It's a win win for him in all fairness
Really admire your positivity, I just can't see it. Think we might be out of this one.

Who is his alternative target?

Have we heard of one?

Same with Antony, Ten Hag wanted him, we've been priced out, have you seen us linked to another RW?

It is obvious he has only specific targets.

If we're out of this one, then i'd expect us to brief as much later on.

We moved on from Timber when he said he wanted to stay at Ajax and we moved on from Brobbey when he said he wanted to sign for Ajax. I'd expect us to do the same this time too.
Lets see if/when the brief comes and what it contains

Very true! I do agree, but the update about Uniteds frustration to me is setting the groundwork for 'united no longer interested, taking too long' face saving exercise.
