The Barca times are going to print a pro Barca slant in all their articles. Not a credible source for what Frenkie’s thinking.
They also label Santi Aouna as a reliable source in that Tweet, which is clearly wrong as he's been incredibly speculative this season.

Can it really be a transfer window without ehsanul trawling through Twitter for every negative tweet?

Despite seeing the benefit of getting him and liking the player, this ‘saga’ holds no interest for me, I guess because it’s a player being turfed out against his wishes, rather than coming openly sours the whole thing. Perhaps he comes here and gives a sterling showing of himself, or he starts mewling after not settling, who knows?

But I’m not posting for the above, more, wanted to ask anyone who is watching him at Barcelona: how does he generally look in the rough and tumble of the league? Accepting he’s not being optimised or used to get the best out of him, does he look a level above midfielders he’s up against across the league?

He burst on the scene, but what has become of him since? Does he have any airs of being the class above he seemed to be a few years back?
This response will be somewhat off topic, so I'll keep it short and sweet. He still shows his class with his excellent close control and consistent touches of the ball. His passing is also consistent and accurate. In short, when he's on the field, he looks a level above, but he's just not productive enough in that Barcelona team.

LVG repeatedly said prior to us signing Di Maria he wanted a winger like Di Maria (he even name checked him)
Iirc in Di Marias last season at Madrid he played a more central position and had his best ever season only to be reverted back by VG as a winger who hardly touched the ball and even as a CF in some games. It was an all round disaster from the start.

To be honest if any player jump at the chance to join Manutd even after our current situation, i would worry more about his mentality. If you want players who are winners and world class, they will hesitate seeing how we have been run and how we can jeopardise their chance of winning trophies. So its okay if FDJ has doubts about us. Dont think CL is the biggest issue, concern is where we are going to be in 2-3 years.

If you think we should not persuade top players, then you should be happy with Mcfred. Players of higher caliber will always want to play at the top with a chance to win trophies. I hope we do persuade him because he will transform our team. Thats why i believe that ETH must have told him that this CL absence is just 1 year and we are planning to go back to the top.

Pogba vibes. Barca using him in a wrong position and getting sub par performances in return. Hope he can find his Ajax form if he signs

Exactly.

Which is why it will be a rough window.

It almost seems like we've spent all this time trying to play Pogba in the way FDJ should be getting used, and meanwhile it sounds like Barca are using FDJ in the way Pogba should be played.

If Pogba weren't out of contract it might have been a smart move by both clubs to swap the players.

Anyone who's watched today's (or tonight's) final must now see why we need him.

Midfield is the beating heart of a team and if we're ever aspiring to get back to where we what to be we need players of his quality to run the strings.

Hope we wrap him up and deliver him to ten hag soon enough.

I’m not regular watcher ever since FDJ joined Barcelona but lot of people said he’s been used incorrectly at Barcelona. They forced him to play more as no 8 or the box to box role under Xavi and also there was time in press conference when Xavi talked about his expectation of FDJ needs to score goals. Basically, Xavi expects him to be a box to box more rather than be someone who dictates the game in deeper area, which his speciality in Netherlands and Ajax played in no 6 role. Unfortunately that role was given to Busquest by Xavi at Barcelona.

He’s number one ten hag key player in 18/19, so imo this signing speaks a lot about us signing player that suits to manager’s system, signing a player that a manager knows how to use him at best, and furthermore, this signing is like signing one of the spine of the squad.

The downside is he’s not a leader. But who’s available out there a leader anyway?

Thanks for replies. I haven't followed him at Barca, certainly not with any focus on him alone anyway. Just wondered what he generally looks like outside of being incorrectly utilised.

United lack players of quality and attitude. Our first priority should be to clear house of all this toxicity. Thus we need as many players possible which means that we will be forced to take risks. I also believe that we should be ready to listen to offers for the likes of Rashford as well. It will increase our funds + We need to deliver the message that we have little room for underperforming players whose focus lies elsewhere
I agree 100%. If we are to start the rebuild this summer it must be done right and the manager must be backed. I think we need 6 players in this summer window. CB, RB, DM, CM, RWF, CF. Rashford Maguire or any other player that has not performed for us should be also up for transfer. We have a load to get rid of.

Agreed.
But we all know that that won't happen.
Most of the players we have in our first XI are disgraceful and we will hang on to them, forcing the new manager to work with them.
It's as if the last 6 months didn't happen.
This is why I believe that our strategy hasn't changed. Essentially, the board make the decisions on what happens on the pitch and the players have all the power, no matter how badly they perform.

We tried Pogba in every role with every suggested formation and it didn't work.

He is a deep playmaker who can evade the press, has a high work rate and has a great dribble to break through defensive lines.

I'm not sure about De Jong. A bit of a forgettable career at Barca. He was much more impressive in 18/19 with Ajax.

Maybe Ten Hag can revive him.

Yet they expect to make a profit on him. Something about the price they’re asking is really rubbing me up the wrong way.

Its a ridiculous fee and only we are daft enough to pay it. They are on the the brink financially and we're the ones getting bullied.
We are mugs when it comes to negotiations.

I don't see an alternative. Yesterday showed you what we are missing in midfield technically and in intelligence. If ETH wants to be successful, we have to buy De Jong, as he is the best one available. He is world class, dont give a feck if we pay 60m or 100m, we are desperate in midfield. Every other position i can see going for alternative B or C, not in midfield. For that playmaker role, it is De Jong or no one for me. That is why we are not moving on as well. Glad to see, we need to be persistent here.

Weren't they saying that they'll need to sell before June?
If that's true there should be some movements very soon.

We’ve supposedly lined up Neves if DeJong is a non starter.

No, barca need to sell before July so the transfer fee can be registered as income for the new season to ease the ffp. If they need to sell frenkie at all. Laporta is on the verge on selling barca studios and future tv income for 900 mio €.

That 900m euros is an abstract figure until someone gives it some context. Over how many season is that etc. I doubt it will be more than previously given most of la Liga’s star players are no longer there.

Once again, sounds like they need to sell...
barca needs to sell, that is clear. The question remains what. Players or assets? We'll know more in the coming weeks. And with dembele gone, another big wage disappears. But also quality of course.

This is becoming another boring and tedious saga like the one we had with Fabregas. If a player doesn't want to come then why waste time for him.

Don't want another Di Maria type situation. If he doesn't want to come move on.

I struggle to see why any decent player already at a top club would want to swap them for us right now, we just need to accept that they will need to be persauded, and most likely forced to come by the selling club, and even then we'll have to over pay.

If the time comes we start been sucessful again we can use the 'if we don't want come move on' line again.

If he wants to come and help Ten Hag build a nice bright future for our club, welcome.

If he only wants to come if we are throwing 400k per week in his direction, I'd rather he stay at Barca.
