Firstly I wasn't replying to your reply to someone else. I asked you a question, you gave me an answer, and I replied to that.

Secondly, even running back through the thread makes no difference. A justification you gave for whether he's worth paying more for pre/early-season was "De Jong isn't going to be difference between dropping or not dropping points against Liverpool. That kind of senseless points need to stop." That is just wrong, if you think FDJ is a good player.

If you want to look at the relative merits of spunking up £17M sooner or not, arguing that he won't make the team more likely to win is a bad argument, unless you're also claiming FDJ isn't an upgrade on our team at all. If he's better, he's more likely to make us win. The argument then is about cost:benefit.

They really are destroying their future for short term success aren't they? I mean, it's a huge huge gamble and a couple of bad seasons will result in, well, i don't even want to imagine how bad it could get

They surely won't get that.
In order for UEFA to get payback, Barcelona would have to be guaranteed CL football every season.

Is he wrong?

I replied to a Boris tweet of his with something along the lines of "if only Gary was as dedicated to getting the Glazers out as he is to his political career, Sir Jim Ratcliffe could possibly hand him a role high up in the new club hierarchy".

After this he posted a big anti-Glazer tweet and now they figure more frequently in his statements. I insist I planted a seed.

Woke up this morning feeling optimistic, sipped my hot tea and thought something tasted different. Immediately went to RedCafe to check on Frenkie thread expecting a done dealio, turns out nothing is different and I actually drank a glass of piss.
 
If Barca get away with this plan it will be one of the ballsiest schemes pulled of in history.
Spend big to get big especially if it´s other people´s money.

Hopefully this can speed up soon. The Chelsea links always seem to turn out fairly weak and Barca are just dancing around the fact that ETH has a good contact in Frenkie so no amount of media games can shake that and they need to sort out the settlement then bring in Silva from City. Barca are currently paying De Jong on his new contract so it's best for them to face the music, Silva's wages won't be near the amount they're losing on Frenkie right now. The longer they leave it the more they lose while the other parties just sit tight and wait.

Seems that despite what Wheeler was saying Utd aren't close to paying that €17m, if they were then Whitwell & Ducker would definitely know as well.

The only way is that it is included in the fee we agreed, hence a higher upfront payment. No way would we pay that on top to him

Really hope there is some truth in that tweet suggesting Barca are €150m short so won't be able to register players by Aug 13

As a Londoner I take issue with that haha;)

Plenty of nice leafy areas close to or even in London down here. Obviously I’d rather he goes to us but don’t drag all of London down!

Getting to the point I just want us to do it now, however don't think we are considering it looking at the usual reliable Utd journos

Why the hell should we pay 17m to help clean up Barcas mess? The only right thing to do is wait and let the pressure pile up for Barca. If he does not come, so be it

Oh I agree but I’m just saying its not such a game changer when you think about it given his circumstances?

Essentially neither London or Manchester can offer nice weather and beaches. After that the difference is negligible in my opinion.

I’m on the train to Chester right now. Fortunately I know it quite well and am fairly certain which of the pubs will be scouser-free :drool:

It’s like one of those lame teen hero movies where there is a handsome butch popular hero guy and a normal slightly nerdy guy in love with the same popular girl. She is with popular guy, doesn’t really know nerdy guy exists until some shit kicks off and popular guy turns out to be a bit of a conceited wuss and nerdy guy steps up to become the hero and get the girl.
