That's not a strawman, the bolded part was the actual question, it wasn't a different question. You decided to enter a conversation you had no clue about.
Firstly I wasn't replying to your reply to someone else. I asked you a question, you gave me an answer, and I replied to that.
Secondly, even running back through the thread makes no difference. A justification you gave for whether he's worth paying more for pre/early-season was "De Jong isn't going to be difference between dropping or not dropping points against Liverpool. That kind of senseless points need to stop." That is just wrong, if you think FDJ is a good player.
If you want to look at the relative merits of spunking up £17M sooner or not, arguing that he won't make the team more likely to win is a bad argument, unless you're also claiming FDJ isn't an upgrade on our team at all. If he's better, he's more likely to make us win. The argument then is about cost:benefit.
