There’s about 3 clubs on the planet that can offer to pay his wages, a higher fee than we’ve offered and are “more attractive” than United. This isn’t happening. He isn’t moving because they owe him 17m quid. We keep going round in circles here - that’s the reality. Unless the buying club offers to match his current salary with those deferred wages he isn’t moving until Barcelona cough up regardless of how “keen” he may be to join another club that’s supposedly far better than Manchester United in your eyes.
The one word that describes Frenkie and his agent in agreeing to that wage deferral is:
NAIVE
Might be a bad idea (because it's my idea)
But if it gets to about August 20th or beyond and we are no further along in this saga than we are now, or were 3 weeks ago, would it be worth considering a loan with an option/obligation to buy? Using the figures they've already agreed.
Gets FDJ off their wage bill for a year, gives Barca more time to find a solution to his deferred payments, gives FDJ the option of fecking off back to Barca's bench after a year if he doesn't settle, gets United their much needed injection of CM quality and a much better chance of CL qualification.
You’re not the only one to say this but he is protected by his contract. The default position is that Barca have to honour the contract. If they want him to leave they have to pay him off to a level he will accept. He has the upper hand in any negotiations and will be very well off either way.At the end of this FDJ needs to find himself a new agent, surely if he was deferring so much in wages, a good agent would have had something written in thereto protect him.
Just ignore the facts and make up stories in your head. Ok.United appear desperate in their bid to land De Jong. He doesn't seem interested in joining the club, and yet United keep waiting for him. How was De Jong ever going to contribute anything positive in the dressing room? The teammates will have to play with a man who doesn't want to be there. At the same time, time flies, and the season will start shortly. I wonder if there are other players who could be interesting and interested?
Laurie contacts says FDJ is open to move. Adds “things can change and others have different contacts” but doesn’t say he has heard any different from his June 18th piece.
This is so dramatic. He's not being forced against his will. He could lower his wage demands and join any Spanish team (Or you know, his current club). If he doesn't, it's because he wants to go elsewhere.United appear desperate in their bid to land De Jong. He doesn't seem interested in joining the club, and yet United keep waiting for him. Also says open is different from wanting.
And how do you know that someone that wanted to join the club does not regret it 5-6 months later? How will they play with him then? This quite a weird narrative.
Both terms imply that he is not against playing for United, just not actively pursuing it (like Ronaldo for example). We know from the start that he'd rather have stayed it Barcelona but with every passing day it seems that matters less and less. They are treating him poorly and trying to con him out of his earned wages. Also, they are trying to make him a villain for not agreeing to their crazy wage demands like it is his fault they were offered.

They could do that, if he even plays in the WC when they bench him at CB. Or he picks up an injury in training, it’s a risk.
I’m sure he’d go Munich, or Liverpool, or City if they came in now, so Barcelona could simply drop the asking price now to get them involved. Much less risky.
He might have options. Not sure he will have many offering the wages and prospects of United. Maybe he thinks ETH is shit and hates him but there is reasonable doubt about that.Exactly he is open to it but it is very clear he wants to stay, if that is 100% not going to happen then I’m sure Frenkie is also open to joining other clubs, not just ours.
I don’t for one second believe he is waiting patiently for all his money so he can then join up with EtH at United and only United. He will have options.
Guess we will all find out in the next 35 days.
I’m not surprised they hated you too if you kept talking about “monies” like a babbling moron
Still doesn't mean he will leave, hope he does, but if Barca do not pay up he isn't going anywhere
It makes me smile when you come back into this thread after a while (doing the annual Center Parcs with wife and kids) to find a gazillion page updates, but nothing more added than pictures of houses and arguments around ‘monies’. Some of you are true muppet warriors.
Our midfield is in such ridiculous state that it need not one but two CM. So I'd say lets get someone on the cheap (Fabian Ruiz?) now. That would remove some urgency in signing the player which in turn would probably push De Jong and Barca around the table. If we are still able to sign De Jong then fine. We'll get rid of VDB and we'll be fine. If not, well, at least, we'll have a half decent CM to rely upon.
Nice way of telling everyone you're minted. It makes me smile when you come back into this thread after a while (doing the annual Center Parcs with wife and kids) to find a gazillion page updates, but nothing more added than pictures of houses and arguments around ‘monies’. According to Cadena SER, the 25-year-old has informed the Old Trafford hierarchy of his decision and has also spread the word in the Barca dressing room.
Pablo Torre, Kessié, Christensen, the renewal of Dembélé, Raphinha and Lewandowski can be joined by Jules Koundé, with whom he is immersed in negotiations with Sevilla. At the moment he has not been able to register any and for this he must release players.
Who is most thought of is Frenkie De Jong as the ideal man to release salary mass. Its sale would be essential to register players and balance the accounts, but the player resists. Sources close to the culé dressing room have told 'Cadena SER' that the player has told his teammates that he is not going to move from Barça. He would also have told Manchester United that he is going to sign for the Red Devils.
Faced with this situation, either the club activates the third lever, although it is reluctant to do so, or they activate another player who is on the exit ramp and they are thinking of option B: Ter Stegen.
from what ETH has said, what gives you the impression he'd want to do that? Not baiting you or anything, just interested in the thought as the overwhelming impression I have of ETH is yes...buy more players, but they have to be distinctly ETH type players. he does not seem very interested in "just buy anyone so I have more options" type of guy.
all valid points, personally i don't think we're going to see a 180 in his point of view that would be in line with your thinking in less than a month. Then ETH is a limited manager who can't adapt his game. Which is kind of mad come to think of it since the guy had made his bones at Ajax were they constantly had to do so. Managers have to adapt. SAF wanted Batistuta, Shearer and Collymore but ended up with 4th choice Cole. He lost Kanchelskis and Ince and despite all that the club didn't even bother bringing in the one player he wanted (Anderton). Shit happens.
Nice way of telling everyone you're minted.
