I said yesterday that i think we will likely sign De Jong, and i still do, although i wonder if this will be similar to the Bruno/Sancho situations where we have to wait until January or next summer (hopefully not).
In this case though i think you're shooting the messenger.
very likelyIf EtH thinks Frenkie is one of a kind and is essential to implement what he wants, then I see why we are okay to play the waiting game.. I assume not getting him means, we go into the season with the team as it is right now
Yes, and he should bear the consequences / blame in that case when it eventually goes south due to our lack of solid options in the midfield. This is going to be a complete piss take if we again go into the new season without having addressed our midfield. That’s why you need a real DoF in place to cut the bs like this when manager clearly is not in his right mind on certain subjects. If EtH thinks Frenkie is one of a kind and is essential to implement what he wants, then I see why we are okay to play the waiting game.. No way this can be unlocked until very close to deadline day. Poker game analogy is very apt. United just needs to sit there and stare straight ahead. Next person to speak loses. Barca are short stacked.
No-one has ever been convinced he wants the move, he in a perfect World clearly wants to stay at Barça.
We are probably in kind of a pickle because of Ronaldo wanting to leave. If he does, we will have to sign someone, which is forcing our hand a season too early.
I think it's as ridiculous as people choose to make it. Logical deduction tells a story of brinkmanship and as long a game as Barcelona have to hold out for before they are forced to act, as in play their hand. This has to be the most ridiculous saga? How long are we going to be led this merry dance?
Surely we must be getting some signs behind the scenes or we are utterly delusional.
They are clearly very, very keen to get De Jong out of the club (but not keen enough to pay him the €17m).
You'd think at some point they will realise that getting De Jong off their books (and getting £65m+ in the process) is better for them financially than keeping him for another year, even if that means paying him off for the €17m (presumably in instalments).
Muppet train delayed
They’ve bought Fred a new coat and a portable radiator
I wonder why Eriksen hasn’t been given the 21 he wore at Brentford…
My god this is so done

BRUH...they doing Frenkie dirty
#FREEFRENKIE
Martinez was also 21 at Ajax... just adding fuel to the fire here
Says the club are '100% convinced' that he'll be a United player by September 1st
So Arujo and Kounde will be first choice? They have Christensen and Pique as back up, what the hell does that make Frenkie?!!
In my mind the answer is ‘a United player’.

When the DoF is inadequate and a Glazer yes-man, then unfortunately things like this will happen. That’s why you need a real DoF in place to cut the bs like this when manager clearly is not in his right mind on certain subjects.
BuT We hAvE nO PlAn B!!!!!!11!!
Amad (as he prefers to be called) was never a plan B. He went straight into the u23s. Nice try.You mean like that time we were chasing Sancho and ended up paying 40 million on Diallo as 'Plan B'?
One scenario which I've not seen mentioned in the 43,000 posts yet (if it has, feck it I'm gonna say it anyway) is this:
- Barca may well have already offered FDJ the £17m deferred wages if he accepts to leave
- Despite this, FDJ may well have still refused to leave
- We can't underestimate the factor and influence lifestyle and family will play in a players decision. For some players its more important than others. He and in particular, his wife may love the life in Barca in that FDJ would be willing to put that as a higher priority than his footballing career.
- For his wife, it's either a beautiful place to live with great lifestyle in Barca, to coming to Manchester which isn't even a comparison. Especially with the grim weather. The footballing side doesn't affect his wife, only FDJ.
- This scenario would tie in with what Graeme Hunter said on Talksport in that the rumour Barca don't want to pay what he's owed is complete nonsense. He said Barca are happy to pay it.
- As this prolongs further, I'm of the opinion that he's been offered the money he's owed and he's refused and insisted he still wants to stay regardless of limited playing time. So that leads on to his contract if he stays. Barca obviously want him to reduce his wages and he's probably insisting he's doing nothing wrong by sticking to his original contract which he's completely entitled to. He's probably thinking if I'm going to stay and sacrifice a chunk of my footballing career, I'm going to at least take some big money home.
- Ultimately, I think he may end up staying and accepting a reduced contract near the end of the window.
I will never trust the British press again if this were true. One scenario which I've not seen mentioned in the 43,000 posts yet (if it has, feck it I'm gonna say it anyway) is this:

I've always believed it's about money, but as time has dragged on I've become less convinced. Especially after Graeme Hunter who's the La Liga don of reporters laughed off any suggestion that Barca were refusing to pay him. He said Barca were happy to pay him but in installments. I wouldn't see why FDJ would have a big objection to being paid in installments.Fair points. That said, If it’s just him wanting to stay, then I think we would have pulled the plug. Also, if Barca don’t want him and would like to play others before him, he would eventually have to leave regardless.
I think this comes down to money. That’s my opinion.

But wouldn't you make career decisions based on discussions with your family? I know his playing time would be pretty limited this season, but his opportunity may come next season when Busquets leaves and they don't really have anyone else for that position. I know my decision on a career choice would definitely be heavily influence by my familys thoughts. If the above is true, we should stay away. It’s a disaster if lifestyle has a higher priority for a footballer than career and football-related matters
Don't worry about it. You were pushing a muppet dream and you should never feel bad for doing the lords work.
