It'll drag on for a while until Barca and the player reach a compromise on how much the payoff is and then Frenkie will be sold.

Probably to Chelsea.

Nope. The whole point is, he’d be getting the 17m owed. + 300k /week.
So he’d actually be on a similar pay.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but if he doesn't do anything and decides to sit on his current contract wouldn't he still get the 17m and be on 425k a week?

In the UK there is an employee protection law called Constructive Dismissal.

I am sure there will be something similar in Spain and wonder if Frenkie would have recourse there when it comes to recovering deferred wages.

It could be argued that he has been put under intolerable pressure to leave his job, that his employer's conduct was so poor that leaving was the only option to maintain his career trajectory.

Apparently the successful compensation rate in the UK is very low, about 5%.

I said it earlier, but Barca clearly are going to push this all the way up to the 30th deadline, this is how they operate now. It's extremely reckless, but I guess if Laporta gets the job done, he won't care.

I said myself at the beginning of all this that he could potentially be a Pogba type problem. The only positive, well pretty big positive, is that we have the man that has had him performing before.

The question for me is if we have the correct partner for him. Personally, I think we needed a stronger defensive type midfielder aswell. The idea of FDJ + Fred, McT or Eriksen doesn't fill me with confidence. The only time I've seen midfields like this being used is by teams that paly 3 at the back (Wolves, for example). Even the best teams in the country in City and Liverpool both have that profile of player in their midfield. It seems a bit overconfident of us, possibly naive, to think we can do without.
Yeah totally agree. Having ETH is certainly a good thing in terms of being optimistic. But I am not sure if he will be able to overcome certain limitations in our current squads capabilities. The proposed lineups in here with him, are paper thin, sound good on paper but teams will only sit deep and then burn us on the break.

77 days since Romero got us all excited. God I miss the days of when we were kept in the dark until finding on Teletext.

We need two midfielders, Frenkie is a clear upgrade on Fred, but we also need a clear upgrade on McT to challenge for the title. However a trio of Frenkie - Bruno - Fred/McT is a solid midfield against most opposition and should be strong enough for a top 4 finish. Which means we can wait on the second midfielder until next season.

Frenkie - Bruno - Rice next season (one can hope?) Would be a phenomenal midfield.

Slightly bemused by people forgetting Eriksen? I feel he will be a massive part of our season.

Watched the Juve friendly, won’t be getting many games at centre half if that’s his level. What a saga this all is, I wonder if LVG will play him if he’s not getting any Barca play time at all.

Andy Mitten, who has good contacts at both clubs, says there is still no indication that De Jong wants to join United.

Find it hard to believe a club would spend 3 months trying to sign a player who hasn't given their word. But many are reporting the same thing.

And exactly how have they done that? By bringing him on preseason tour? By playing him in football matches?

Look, Barcelona clearly want the man gone but there’s very little they’ve done as of right now to merit anything close to a constructive dismissal claim. You’ll need them going that step further and actively putting him in the stands or not registering him for matches to get closer, or not actually paying him the money he’s owed. There must be a repudiatory breach of his contract.

The problem now is even if he does come late on in the window the expectation and media hype on him will be immense and he will be expected to perform miracles from the off - having never played in the EPL he will take some adjusting and the pressure will be huge. Especially with all those ready to start telling us he’s a waste of money.

ETH will really be putting his neck on the line by putting all his eggs in this basket.

Could be a master stroke but also a noose around his neck.

for the sake of the conversation I dont think this will happen, I never have but as far as the team is concerned, you reckon ETH can be patient etc, but what if it doesnt happen? What happens when the realisation kicks in a week before the end of the window that we have been patient all summer and the player doesnt join?

IMO we should have moved on by now or maybe ETH has said be patient as he has no other players for midfield in his mind, he has just accepted he will get FDJ or its MCFred!!

Football isn’t a 1-season game. Rushing to get some player in which doesn’t fit our needs is part of what has gotten us into the mess we’ve been the last decade.

Who would you get instead? I don’t hold out much hope for McTominay, but Fred is a good player. If we can use a midfield of Fred (if he can stay disciplined and stick to the rules), Eriksen and Bruno I think we would clobber most teams where we are expected to keep the majority of possession.

Be earlier if the reports are true and need him to take a pay cut/leave if they are you register new players..

By meeting with representatives of another club to negotiate his transfer away, while the player himself has stated that he is happy and is at his dream club.

I don't think there has to be a fundamental breach of contract for there to be a breach. You can argue unfair psychological pressures too.

Just spitballing here!

Aye, exactly this.
I said it when people questioned why they would take him on tour if they really wanted to sell him. That’s because it would be a clear sign of constructive dismissal, whereas taking him on tour, making him second choice and playing him out of position is just a managers choice, no court could argue against that.

It's embarrassing now. How much longer will we keep this up. He doesn't want to come here, he prefers Chelsea if he has to leave Barca. Please move on to someone else.

It's embarrassing that United fans are so soft and easily embarrassed. You need to man-up.

Is Frenkie de Jong the answer to our midfield problems or the type of player many United supporters think he is (holding or defensive midfielder in a pivot)?

I start wondering when I read this article: https://barcauniversal.com/no-time-to-pivot-evaluating-frenkie-de-jongs-role-at-barcelona/amp/

Compared to the world’s elite pivots, he simply does not have the defensive chops in terms of volume or efficiency to hold down that role in front of the backline himself.

Additionally, the former Ajax man comes in with significantly lower tallies for metrics like interceptions and aerial duels won than Busquets, Manchester City’s Rodri, and Real Madrid’s Casemiro.

Even if you tried to consider development, things look bleak. De Jong has never even shown defensive capabilities compared to fellow non-pivots that would flag him as someone potentially capable of a shift into a lone deeper position. This is reflected on the pitch whenever he is forced into the role.

Maybe we should move on and look for other alternatives?

Hasn't it been widely accepted that FdJ doesn't play in his preferred position. He himself said he plays in his preferred position for Holland and not at Barca.

I back EtH to be able to play in a position that suits him best.

 why the feck would anyone “prefer” Chelsea. Why not Bayern, City, Liverpool, PSG.

No, it’s the constantly battling with United for least shit after the top two award team he wants. The team that finished the past two seasons 19 points, and 21 points off the top, and miles off second.

Utter drivel.

I wouldn’t be surprised to hear he prefers any of the teams above, but Chelsea makes very little sense, hence why no reputable source has reported it.

Every reputable source have always repeated the same and also quotes by the manager that we need to add a midfielder maestro to our squad, who is capable to make the game tempo tick as we want - Frenkie has that quality and it's his best role he has excelled on the highest level (CL).

If we can't make this transfer to work and all the reputable journalists have been wrong on this, it's their mistake not ours. As we move to some sort of stop gap solution and give the youth players a chance to learn the role instead. I simply don't see an alternative target who could play similar role in the market atm.

Have been saying this from the start in a double pivot he needs a more defensive partner. If we could bring in Rice next season I feel they could form an excellent partnership, or else find a young Kanté.

Do you believe everything you're told or only if it has negative connotations towards Manchester United?
