It'll drag on for a while until Barca and the player reach a compromise on how much the payoff is and then Frenkie will be sold.
Probably to Chelsea.
Probably to Chelsea.
Nope. The whole point is, he’d be getting the 17m owed. + 300k /week.
So he’d actually be on a similar pay.
Yeah totally agree. Having ETH is certainly a good thing in terms of being optimistic. But I am not sure if he will be able to overcome certain limitations in our current squads capabilities. The proposed lineups in here with him, are paper thin, sound good on paper but teams will only sit deep and then burn us on the break.I said myself at the beginning of all this that he could potentially be a Pogba type problem. The only positive, well pretty big positive, is that we have the man that has had him performing before.
The question for me is if we have the correct partner for him. Personally, I think we needed a stronger defensive type midfielder aswell. The idea of FDJ + Fred, McT or Eriksen doesn't fill me with confidence. The only time I've seen midfields like this being used is by teams that paly 3 at the back (Wolves, for example). Even the best teams in the country in City and Liverpool both have that profile of player in their midfield. It seems a bit overconfident of us, possibly naive, to think we can do without.
We need two midfielders, Frenkie is a clear upgrade on Fred, but we also need a clear upgrade on McT to challenge for the title. However a trio of Frenkie - Bruno - Fred/McT is a solid midfield against most opposition and should be strong enough for a top 4 finish. Which means we can wait on the second midfielder until next season.
Frenkie - Bruno - Rice next season (one can hope?) Would be a phenomenal midfield.

I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but if he doesn't do anything and decides to sit on his current contract wouldn't he still get the 17m and be on 425k a week?
I’m not sure I have faith you can complete a signing this window tbh
I'm just preparing a menu of talking points to use for you later.what? Aaron Ramsey is a rich man’s Donny. Nothing like De Jong.
And exactly how have they done that? By bringing him on preseason tour? By playing him in football matches? In the UK there is an employee protection law called Constructive Dismissal.
I am sure there will be something similar in Spain and wonder if Frenkie would have recourse there when it comes to recovering deferred wages.
It could be argued that he has been put under intolerable pressure to leave his job, that his employer's conduct was so poor that leaving was the only option to maintain his career trajectory.
Apparently the successful compensation rate in the UK is very low, about 5%.
I’ll get you started on the Ronaldo ones as soon as this transfer is wrapped up, don’t you worry.I'm just preparing a menu of talking points to use for you later.
for the sake of the conversation I dont think this will happen, I never have but as far as the team is concerned, you reckon ETH can be patient etc, but what if it doesnt happen? What happens when the realisation kicks in a week before the end of the window that we have been patient all summer and the player doesnt join?
IMO we should have moved on by now or maybe ETH has said be patient as he has no other players for midfield in his mind, he has just accepted he will get FDJ or its MCFred!!
Just like how Griezmann was a rich man's Lingard.Frenkie is a rich man's Aaron Ramsey.
100 % agree. Perfect balanceFrenkie - Bruno - Rice next season (one can hope?) Would be a phenomenal midfield.
I said it earlier, but Barca clearly are going to push this all the way up to the 30th deadline, this is how they operate now. It's extremely reckless, but I guess if Laporta gets the job done, he won't care.
Koulibaly and Sterling don't count as signings?
And exactly how have they done that? By bringing him on preseason tour? By playing him in football matches?
Look, Barcelona clearly want the man gone but there’s very little they’ve done as of right now to merit anything close to a constructive dismissal claim. You’ll need them going that step further and actively putting him in the stands or not registering him for matches to get closer, or not actually paying him the money he’s owed. There must be a repudiatory breach of his contract.

It's a tough job but someone’s got to do it@Berbaclass has done serious bits in this thread. Legendary numbers, Ronaldo & Messi would be proud of this consistency.
@golden_blunder another oneIt's embarrassing now. How much longer will we keep this up. He doesn't want to come here, he prefers Chelsea if he has to leave Barca. Please move on to someone else.

Is Frenkie de Jong the answer to our midfield problems or the type of player many United supporters think he is (holding or defensive midfielder in a pivot)?
I start wondering when I read this article: https://barcauniversal.com/no-time-to-pivot-evaluating-frenkie-de-jongs-role-at-barcelona/amp/
Compared to the world’s elite pivots, he simply does not have the defensive chops in terms of volume or efficiency to hold down that role in front of the backline himself.
Additionally, the former Ajax man comes in with significantly lower tallies for metrics like interceptions and aerial duels won than Busquets, Manchester City’s Rodri, and Real Madrid’s Casemiro.
Even if you tried to consider development, things look bleak. De Jong has never even shown defensive capabilities compared to fellow non-pivots that would flag him as someone potentially capable of a shift into a lone deeper position. This is reflected on the pitch whenever he is forced into the role.
Maybe we should move on and look for other alternatives?

You'd like to think so, but I genuinely feel like they'll push it to the wire.Be earlier if the reports are true and need him to take a pay cut/leave if they are you register new players..
Champions League.why the feck would anyone “prefer” Chelsea. Why not Bayern, City, Liverpool, PSG.
No, it’s the constantly battling with United for least shit after the top two award team he wants.
Utter drivel.
I wouldn’t be surprised to hear he prefers any of the teams above, but Chelsea makes very little sense, hence why no reputable source has reported it.
Champions League.
