Why does he deserve that?

This 'biggest club in the world' BS should have stopped long ago. You don't say that to a club who are trying to royally screwing you. I'd say lets cut the losses and move to an alternative signing instead. The financial mess De Jong and Barca got into isn't our problem to solve.

Xavi's comments alluded to the financial matter was dictating how they treated him on field. This is why I continue to scoff that those claiming he has "all the power". In a world cup year, there is a very good chance FDJ is a bench CB for Barca and gets like 20 mins every few weeks. They don't care, the fans have already turned on him. So yes, he can sit there and make his full wage, but they are going to destroy his career in the process.
Long term sitting and waiting isn’t going to work for him, but it’ll have no bearing on this winters World Cup. He’s not a Timber on the fringes of the squad who needs to play his way in, De Jong is inked into that squad and team.

Yes but if he doesn’t go they seemingly can’t register their signings. I still say FDJ holds the better cards for now.

We really don't know the details but there is a chance this might end up in court. He can't be seen as the one instigating this transfer.

I happen to know a couple of lawyers myself which i made during my time working alongside HR. Usually the less you say the better. As you say this might end up into court which means its a shit fest of epic proportions. We shouldn't get involved into. The fact that De Jong keeps sticking it in to his prospective employees makes things far less desirable.

ETH should consider signing players out of the Dutch league.

Really hope this is true. There has been cases of players fluttering there lashes elsewhere, the club placing a bid and said player then refusing.

Fabregas with us and Rooney with Chelsea

I don't see how those tweets are even remotely positive. Almost implies that FDJ hasn't discussed a transfer with us and instead it's his agent. FDJ wants his money and as far as he's concerned he'll only get that by staying on his current deal. Barca won't pay it if he leaves, that much is obvious now.

Is the tweet just not a case of explaining what the situation is? It's a game of chess at the moment. Short term pain, for long term gains.

But @Classical Mechanic’s mate said they’d never be held to ransom over 20m euros or so.

Clear as day he wants what is owed for the past two years, moreso if he’s gonna have to leave as why the feck then did he help them out with almost 20m euros? As a matter of principal, I’d make 100% sure the club pay me that if they want me to feck off, why should they basically nick that money off me?

As frustrated as I get, I do understand the hard line and it’s no doubt right one. Pay us the monies owed, or we won’t discuss a thing.

Makes the whole saga fecking drawn out though, Barca still think he’s bluffing and will sign a new deal, as they clearly think United is a shithole club, or that he’ll drop his demands if they keep playing as a second fiddle CB.

Completely agree.

Of course, it'd be nice if he came out and said "I want to leave but i'm not doing until I get my money". But that weakens his hand in negotiations with them.

Employee wants money he feels he's owed from Employer before leaving... who'd have thought it!

But remember.. he's happy to go to Chelsea without being paid what's due. In fact, he'll happily go there and pay to play.

I don't think it does if he puts it a different way.

All he has to say is I'll leave if you want me to leave but I want what I'm owed. Failing that I remain on my current contract

Yeah pretty much, but on the previous page there's people saying "finally some positive news", when it looks like this is still at the stage it was over a month ago. If those tweets said "nothing changed. No movement in over a month now" then they'd be interpreted for what they are. It seems any tweet with the words "de Jong" and "MUFC" are treated as good news now because people are just desperate to see it mentioned again.

What a surprise......the situation is exactly where Simon stone and ducker reported it WEEKS ago. Thanks for posting the tweets mate!!

It's sounding very positive for us!!

The fact that they've not said anything since then either is very telling too. It's easy to get caught up in the nonsense daily updates, but the truth is that this has been at an impasse for a couple of weeks because they simply need to pay him before he'll entertain leaving

I see it as positive because that situation is not even remotely tenable. Barca don't want to pay him a huge wage. He doesn't want to be a part-time CB that rides the bench and he's not signing a new permanent wage cut contract. The most likely outcome is Barcelona have to give some ground and then he'll have to.

Yeah, true. Maybe they're the conversations which will take place now he's been 'officially' told that he needs to cut his wage or leave.

If we're honest, it's unlikely that anything will happen until they're back from tour

Not sure who blinks first here but what I do know is this really worth all our time and effort?

Everything else we want to do appears to be on hold because of this…..

This could run and run and not be resolved this window - FDJ doesn’t change his contract - maybe they don’t play him and it continues to January? Who knows but I think we should move on…..the only reason I think we don’t is that we don’t want to potentially let someone else in to take him late on?

We are being led a merry dance here and enough is enough otherwise this thread will still be very active right up to deadline day.

We need to move on, we are being used and it will be to our detriment.

If he loves Barca, it is ironic that his staying on may actually drive this club into pretty irreversible decline if they keep having to sell their TV revenue for the next 2 decades or so. Ah well, maybe this is a lesson that having fans own a football club is not such a great idea after all. With the fickleness of having Presidents being elected and all. Eventually he will come to us. It is quite nonsensical for him to go to Chelsea for less pay because they are in the CL. It will only be for 1 year as I am confident United will be back in the mix by next season.

Players don’t sit in, in the negotiations, that’s why they have agents do it for them

Obviously the club and most importantly ETH knows the situation, so they can be patient.

It's time we the fans are now also. Barca will get itchy feet an have to give him a fair deal if they want him gone. He's shown that he is happy to carry on, he will call their bluff.

Having just read the article, it reads like an opinion piece, just wrapping up the story so far for people unfamiliar with the saga. It doesn't sound like the author has any inside knowledge of the situation.
The most important thing to take from it is that it dispels the notion that he has no interest in coming here, either because of CL or whatever. Also find it interesting that the Dutch are also calling it bullying.

When they play a guy who just came back from a loan in Turkey at the 6 position right in front of him, that is sending a message.

I think the one thing this thread can agree on is that the current situation is untenable for both Barca and FDJ. Something will give. And we as fans and the club just have to wait for the result.

I don't understand why Di Jong can't join us and then sue Barca for the money he is owed?

Or is it a case they won't let him leave unless he waives that fee. To be honest, it sounds like Barca are behaving despicably here.

Owing an employee unpaid wages but still going around hiring new employees on massive wages - almost flaunting it in his face.

They really should be ashamed to behave like this.

Negotiations? I'm talking about discussions with ETH or the club. Everyone has been hanging their hat on him telling ETH he wants the move, and apparently they talk daily on the phone like two teenage girls. That tweet implies that's not the case.

Except for the part where today a Spanish source considered highly reliable said he is leaving if he won't take a pay cut and United are the only club in the picture.

What is going on? Barca picked Frenkie's pocket for 17M over the last 2 years and want him to go away now and forget about that and he is digging in his heels to either stay on his full salary which they have unequivocally said cannot happen or he wants a settlement for his deferred money to leave. 5 more weeks in the window, why is everybody trying to rush this, you must all suck at foreplay.
I've heard de Jong is willing to take a paycut, so not sure about the bolded part. He wants to stay at Barca - for whatever reason.
It's nor foreplay if only one side is doing it.

If he's even considering the idea of taking a wage cut he's simply a fecking moron and we don't need any more of those at the club.

for the sake of the conversation I dont think this will happen, I never have but as far as the team is concerned, you reckon ETH can be patient etc, but what if it doesnt happen? What happens when the realisation kicks in a week before the end of the window that we have been patient all summer and the player doesnt join?

IMO we should have moved on by now or maybe ETH has said be patient as he has no other players for midfield in his mind, he has just accepted he will get FDJ or its MCFred!!

Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong would only leave Barcelona for Chelsea but the London club are not prepared to pay as much as Manchester United for the 25-year-old. (Sport - in Spanish)

Why did sport pick Chelsea out of all the club's? literally not one tier 1 for Chelsea is touching this with a barge pole but sport are reporting a Chelsea link ever few hours.

There have been reports that ETH is "FDJ or bust" and he'll look inward if he can't get him.

I think it's time for Arnold and Murtough to say something, one way or the other. At least "we are still confident"...
