We just beat them 4-0 in the Intergalactic Cup, we’ll put 7 past them when it actually means something. FdJ will be begging to join.I do wonder if Frenkie will be more tempted to join if we impress in our first couple of games this season? A shame our third game is against Pool though.

On de Bench once again
@Berbaclass has done serious bits in this thread. Legendary numbers, Ronaldo & Messi would be proud of this consistency.I can't believe there's a guy on here with more than 1k posts in this thread with less than 3k overall.....
I think Harry Kane might be a more apt comparison here. Puts up impressive numbers but fails to walk away with the prize.@Berbaclass has done serious bits in this thread. Legendary numbers, Ronaldo & Messi would be proud of this consistency.
Four league titles and three CL finals in five seasons. At worst it's a tie with late 90s/early 2000s.Our most successful period wasn't after 2005, but I get what you mean.
We never managed to replace Roy Keane up to this very day. Let's not derail this thread, please.Four league titles and three CL finals in five seasons. At worst it's a tie with late 90s/early 2000s.
looks a lot more like a rotation team for Barcelona and still on the bench. maybe it's barca trying to pressure him, maybe something else. with that report about him being open to a pay cut we need to hope it's false or some spin by the club and the next spin is that barca are having difficulty from the player finding an agreement.
On de Bench once again
Something's happening. My Muppet sense is tingling.
If you really wanted to keep the player and tempt him to sign an adjusted contract why would you repeatedly bench him, tell him his favourite position is no longer where he will play then give him minutes at CB (where he also won’t play as a starter).
The whole situation is bizarre and illogical
Given that we have absolutely no depth for the front 3, that to me is the #1, priority right now. But there is no dream signing like Frenkie for midfield, that's why I see Frenkie as #1. But i do think we've already improved our midfield balance and build up play. Obviously Ten Hag alone is huge, but Martinez will be a big difference, and Eriksen as well.
Also just want to note - don't lump Fred in with McTominay as some mediocre player. He's a very good midfielder and has repeatedly showed it! Yes ideally we would sell Donny, loan out Garner, being in a partner for Fred, have Eriksen and Bruno compete and strengthen the front 3 as well. Can't all happen though, or is unlikely. At the end of the day though, it's just about having a squad that the manager feels can achieve what he wants this season. It was never going to be a 1 window rebuild. So if ten hag feels like he is happy enough with the midfielders we have if he can't get Frenkie, then so be it. Our midfield is fine to get top 4 provided we get depth in attack, as i think ten Hag will make a big difference. Frenkie is a player who I think can turn us into title challengers much quicker than anticipated, that's why ten hag is going all out for him.
I also can't understand people being unwilling to offer players a chance. They play for man united. If the manager feels they have a role to play, then they have a role to play. There are no ifs, ors, buts about it. Ten Hag is the most important man at the club right now and we need to back him and trust his judgement. He will be judged on how he manages the squad and his performances, so there shouldn't be a big outrage at his decision as long as he's doing well on the pitch for us.
So what you're saying is muppetry is how Nazi Germany started?
But half of the players selected today are not registered so won't be able to play in competitive fixtures. Ironically, it's because of Frenkie's wages that they cannot be registered, so Barca will basically be forced to play him once the real action starts. This is his life from now on. CH, bench, CH, bench, CH….
He can still be an impact sub so I won't get too excited yet until he's made Camp Nou's new men's restroom attendant.

He's not getting in their midfield as first choice is he? So he is going to be a very expensive backup in a World Cup year. Wonder why LVG hasn't been in his ear like he has in Timber's.
Maybe wait and see how Barcelona play before declaring them back, because I don't see it. But also, yeah, rebuilds can't be done in 1 window, but you can get on track. Our objective isn't a title challenge this season, just like if Barca was in the prem they would be far away from city and Liverpool too. That's just the reality. Also - Barca are retarded with their finances, unless you think mortgaging your future for a 34 year old striker is "smart business".People aren't impatient for not giving the current squad time because uh, they've been given enough time. Mctominay and Fred have been underperforming for years now, they've both spent almost 5 years at club as senior players. On the point that "rebuilds take time, multiple windows and years to complete", it only took Barcelona one summer window to completely revamp their squad. And they're broke, apparently. What's our excuse? The "rebuild takes time" is just a narrative the United press and journalist the club uses to placate the fans into accepting mediocrity. Buying 3 completely new midfielders to completely replace our double pivot to a level resembling that of a top club, was not an unachievable goal. We could've done that instead of wasting our budget on Malacia and Martinez, for example.
Fair enough, I'm not super high on Garner but as a sub spot in the squad I'm ok with it. Eriksen is the main one where I think you're wrong, he's pretty much been back to his form from a few years ago since he's come back. Think he'll surprise you. Also he wouldn't have come if ten hag didn't tell him he'd be a regular. So there's no chance he's a backup.I guess, this shows a major difference in our perspective on things, which will then lead to me feeling different actions needed in a much more urgent way than you: I see Eriksen as a backup for Bruno and thats it. Don't think, he is capable of being relied on to be more than an option. Have no real hopes for Donny, only thing I could imagine is him being tried as some sort of false nine, making runs. And with Garner, I don't really see an extraordinary talent. He'll probably go on to become a good PL player, but I don't see a top player in there. Against PL opposition he's going to see his limits quickly.
For the record, thats not me saying, I'm right, you're wrong. It is just me saying that is how I see things and thats why I feel a bit more urged to do something than you ^^
Agree. Barcelona is a horrible team, dislikable for so many reasons. But one thing they have proven again to us. It is that you don't need 4 fecking years to rebuild and compete for trophies.People aren't impatient for not giving the current squad time because uh, they've been given enough time. I think the build up will be massively different with Shaw actually being there instead of Telles who is garbage, with Martinez at LCB who is an excellent ball playing CB, with Eriksen in the side, and mainly with Ten hag as coach. The difference has been night and day. Sure it's just pre season, but I'd say it's a very clear difference and you'd have to be blind not to see a difference. We are on playing with clear patterns and movement off the ball, clear linkup between players already and that will only improve with more practices.Based on the test matches? Interesting. To be honest, I didn't see much of improvement already, yes we seem to be a bit more courageous with passing and not as seemingly afraid of possession and there were a few attacking moves that looked like football in 2022 but I thought I shouldn't overestimate that given the character of the matches. I thought we were really bad early 2nd half against Villa. Really discouraged me to be honest. What was your thought on that?
No need to sell Fred to me, already a fan ^^ But he has his flaws, undoubtedly and I find it pretty interesting of ETH to name him to be capable of playing the anchor role, that most of us think, would then go to FDJ. I mean, Fred and FDJ have completely different skillsets, what kind of role is that?!
I know where you are coming from. Impatience is a very limited good these days. And believe me, my skepticism doesn't originate from that. It is just that we have seen it so many times, players get a clean slate with a new manager, because, lets be honest, it is pretty easy to do. You don't have to sell all your squad, it is easy to communicate and who knows, one or the other might impress. I get that. But some of those players don't have certain qualities. And without them, they will lack output. And even if a manager certainly can have an effect on things, I don't think he can bridge the deepest abysses. I believe in ETH, I think he can create something. But it will take time and you won't get time, when there is no progress to be seen in any way. I am worried, that he relies on a group of players who have shown to be unreliable.
Barca wouldn't compete for trophies in the Prem and won't compete for the CL. Not a chance.Agree. Barcelona is a horrible team, dislikable for so many reasons. But one thing they have proven again to us. It is that you don't need 4 fecking years to rebuild and compete for trophies.
That's not right though. Pre-season is the place to start putting game plans into action. A chance for the manager to shape the team for that opening game. There is zero chance that FDJ is in the starting eleven on the opening day of La Liga if he continues to be a bench player during these pre-season games.I wouldn't read much into anything you see in preseason. Xavi is experimenting with the squad. The first 'message' about playing time and position to de Jong will be the first La liga game, if he's still at the club by then.
Real knocked out our League's three strongest teams on the way to winning it last year, so I wouldn't be too sure about that. I certainly hope they don't though, that's for sure.Barca wouldn't compete for trophies in the Prem and won't compete for the CL. Not a chance.
They did only because they have some weird destiny with the CL where everything falls perfectly for them year after year. They got outplayed by pretty much all of the English sides but were resilient and got over the line. Real Madrid is also a much better side than Barcelona on their day, though they're aging in key areas so will need to adapt with that. Tournament football is different to league football though, Madrid wouldn't really compete for the Prem with City and Liverpool either with their consistency.Real knocked out our League's three strongest teams on the way to winning it last year, so I wouldn't be too sure about that. I certainly hope they don't though, that's for sure.

Especially Matic, I don't know how someone could watch his good games in which he demonstrated quite clearly what we were missing and decide to go with thia idiotic pursuit and then end up declaring its either we get De Jong or nothing. If the likes of Garner and Martinez don't somehow give us a different midfield combo then this season is DOA.It's not only that, it's McFred but with no Pogba or Matic either. Madness.
Exactly. Even if he were starting the fact that it's at CB should be sending shockwaves for him. We heard a lot of noise early this summer about FDJ being misused by Barca and that being why he plays better for the Netherlands. Now Xavi has gone and moved him to defense..that's such a strong message and it's being overshadowed by budget issues. Barca don't value the kid and have had issue with his performance that's been building for months. He is not a good fit. That's not right though. Its perfectly fine to chase the right player even if it takes a bit longer (=more than one summer), but this can't be an excuse for another underwhelming season. If EtH and the management think its a good idea to go into the season with McFred in midfield, its up to them to make it work and if it falls apart its their fault. United is a freaking rich club and there can't be any excuses for not being competitive.
