French Open 2011

Why are you so sure about that?

Djokovic has discovered how to beat Federer now and I think barring a mental slip up he will continue to beat him - at least on hard courts and clay court. We've yet to see how this new Nole can handle the grass courts.

Because that's how highly I rate Roger Federer. I think if Federer plays his best tennis he'll beat anyone. These things are impossible to prove because you can never tell how whether a player has played badly or the opposition has played well. You can only go on what you feel to be the case. I think that's the case.

Monfils and Ferrer is a great match to watch. Proper grinding from both of them. Lot of winners...

The French crowd are absolutely the worst. I detest them.
Anyway Nadal through to the quarters. Straight sets but yet not convincing. Will play Simon or Sod next.

Nadal having to beat Sod (in his current crazy form), Murray and then Djoko or fed to win the title has to be one of the most difficult run to a title in recent history of the French Open.

Watching Sod destroy Simon is seriously scary stuff.

Nadal was painful to watch today. Rubbish. He can't afford to put in a performance like that against Federer or Djokovic or else he'll lose in straight sets.

I was saying to my mate at 0-2 that Murray would come back in this. Feck. Should have put a few quid on it.

He's got a pair alright. Never gives in, but it's a shame when he gets to the final of a GS how he struggles sometimes to hold it together.

Been like that most of this clay season. Infact he was far far better on hard courts! And forget djoko or fed, sod man will destroy him if Nadal doesn't improve a lot

Interesting. Troicki smashed home an easy shot, but they have to replay the point because Troicki was disturbed by a ballboy as he did it. Play the advantage!

And Murray won the replayed point.

Monfils is a talented fellow isn't he?

Why isn't he much higher up in the rankings? Seems to have a lot about him.

He is a bit like Rafa Nadal, the way he plays and the attributes he has. If he gets Federer today, would do his confidence a world of good.

He's incredibly mentally weak and tends towards entire parts of his game completely breaking down when things aren't going well for him.

Alright. Still 24 so he's got time on his side.

Federer has been sublime so far today. This is like watching Federer from a few years back. Hopefully it carries on for awhile and isn't a one off.

Don't think Monfils can hack it up with Murry, Nadal, Djokovic and I don't even know what he can do to improve.

Question: Why was there such a hype about Federer's forehand? There really is nothing to it. I remember back in the 2003-2006, commentators used to say, you don't want to attack Feds forehand, so I assumed it was , but after seeing it for a while, it is just normal

I think when he first came to prominance it was maybe the biggest shot in the game. Now we have players like Soderling and Del Potro who arguably have better forehands than Roger.

Fed's backhand was magnificent against the shit players until Rafa came and destroyed that backhand of his. Everyone targets it now. Anyway, come on Fed! Win the semi as well please.

Monfils his typical disappointing self. Zero mental strength and a horrible injury record. He exceeded expectations by beating Ferrer.

Oh wait you're talking about the forehand. Well his forehand is quite good but prone to a lot of errors now.

If he does win the semis he might win the whole thing as I think Soderling will beat Nadal. Nadal has lost his mojo, but has enough to beat Fed

Not a chance. Federer's forehand is not like before. It lost head speed, it's much more loopier and all about topspin now. Federer in his prime 04-07 absolutely blasted the ball. Every short ball was punished.

You can watch Federer vs Hewitt at 04' USO to see a example for that. From 08 till now the movement is not the same, the head speed is not the same, it's arguably not the same shot.

Sod and Delpo swing at full strength most of the time and the shots are more stunning but they don't compare to Federer's forehand. Not with variety, consistency, etc.. It's arguably the biggest shot in the game, along with Sampras's serve, Connor's return, Edberg volleys and so on..
