Hopefully this happens. Fred in, Fellaini & Carrick out.

From Jose's quotes about getting a Brazilian player and City's "sources'' saying they have moved on, it looks like we are going to sign him. Not sure how to feel about that since I've never seen him play.

He's Brasilian, he can't be that bad. Although I'd be a lot more assured if his name was Fredinho.

Not a big name but we need a player in his style in central midfield. A bit more agility with and without the ball, scooting with the ball, lower centre of gravity.

I'm not worried about his profile at all, lots of good players have come from Shakhtar.

I'm not an expert on him by any means, but my hunch says I'm for it. Mainly because we need a player in his style. The Deep playmaker like Jorginho or a player with similar traits to what we already have like Milkinovic-Savic give me bad vibes despite them both being good players. I think Fred will fit in our team more.

Like everyone else in here I haven't watched him play consistently but from highlight videos he seems at home at RCM, which is a position we should improve so that's a good start.

25 is young, what are ye all on about :lol: The guys is yet to reach his prime. Besides I am pretty certain we have a few talented teenagers in our academy, what we need are players who are ready to step up. Not seen this guy though admittedly, anyone here seen this guy play on a regular basis?

He's just 25 past in March, great age for a midfielder. People do chat some shit in here at times.

he's good, he played well against us in the CL and in other bits and bobs I've seen he's tidy on the ball, tackles well and can take a decent dead ball, wouldn't be out of place in any squad in the top 4.

Don't know much about Fred but I wonder if any of these posters referring to his age are the same posters praising Carrick for being a legend in other threads. He was roughly the same age when we signed him.

As others have said, great age for a midfielder.

Think they're wumming tbf, at least i hope so.

22-26 is perfect age for a signing really, at that point they're proven themselves at a basic level, matured and ready to step up.

But at the same time all of the best Brazilians had names without -inho — Pele, Zico, Ronaldo? He's going to be the Fred for all Fredinhos after him.

Maybe this is going to be a Brazilian window.
Fred,Sandro and Willian coming in

Is he going to the WC?

Their squad has yet to be named. However, he was in their squad for both their 2018 friendlies against Russia (where he got some minutes) and Germany (Stayed as sub). Looks good for him, though.

Not particularly excited by this guy - looks pretty unexceptional... But hey, right sort of age. Better than Herrera though?

To be fair those three would transform us. Especially Sandro and Willian considering we have no attack from left back or right wing. As for Fred, like I said above I've only seen that Youtube video of him, he looks good but as it stands I think we have the makings of a very good midfield 3 with Pogba, Matic and Herrera. If Fred can take the spot of Herrera that means he's better which is good news for us. If not, he'll be a great player to have on the bench.

No idea if he is, but I don't think our midfield is a huge issue as many would have you believe. A midfield 3 of Pogba, Matic and Herrera is a very good midfield on it's day. You'll be surprised how good our midfield will work/look next year when we have further attacking options out both left (LB) and right (RB, Winger).

I do agree that proper FBs and winger would help our midfield but IMO our midfield lacks a bit of creativity, especially when Pogba is out. When we have Pogba, he is often inconsistent to help the forwards. All the other CMs we have are not creative enough and not very good on the ball.
Also if the opposition just marks Pogba, we suddenly have no idea what to do.
So I would like to see us buy a high energy CM and a creative one.Someone like Fekir or Eriksen would be awesome

Rubbish name for a Brazilian to be fair. I mean, my plumber is called Fred.

For that reason, I'm out.

(Unless he is pretty decent of course, in which case I'll allow him.)

I thought that at first, but he hasn’t accepted their offer by the looks of things.

Perhaps he’s keeping his options wide open, or he’s just trying to pressure City into offering improved terms.

He seems a decent enough player, so if City have offered him a contract and he signs for United then he’s chosen us over them.
It could be that he wants to find out first if it's true that he'll have to take ped's.

I'd never sign anyone under 25, unless proven with good mileage. And he has to be young since it's not the Fred I thought it was, the one who played for Lyon. He's slightly too old.:)

I think he's a good age. Seems a tidy player. But, gun to head, not the type of player to change games for us or take us to the next level.

A solid addition, no doubt. But we need more in CM than just Fred, while keeping Pogba preferably.

The thing I'm not to fussed about, is he doesn't seem either of the things we desperately need. Not a deep-lying Carrick replacement, nor a proper creative attacking threat.

Hahaha i see what you did here. Yeah, i remember people saying those things when United were linked with Perisic..or any other over-22:lol:
Every young player who signs for us is going to be here for 10+ years you know. We want to think long term here or else we'll have to buy new players every 5-10 years. Bad for business.:)

If Pogba isn't a creative attacking threat then we should sell him immediatley. That's why we bought him. Most know he can be that but needs to be more consistent and improve areas of his game.

As for the Deep playmaker, Mourinho doesn't set up that way. We signed Matic for defensive, deep midfield because that is the player Mourinho wants.

We need a link man between those two and Fred looks that type of player.

People even mentioning letting Pogba go is laughable!

We literally wouldn't be in the Fa cup final without him and with his insane record versus the top 6 this year we wouldn't be second. Would honestly have 6-10 points less just off those games.

Not to mention how influential he was in our Europa league run. |We would be a whole lot worse without him.

I think we need a deep lying playmaker who can sit in for Matic against the weaker sides at home more of a Carrick style player who gets the ball from defence and gets it into the attackers quickly. This way we can stick with the 4-3-3 then we need another box to box type who can rotate/compete with Pogba/Herrera for the 2 other positions ideally I'd like someone with a bit of an eye for a goal as well as apart from Pogba who's chipping in a few we really don't get the goals from midfield we need especially if we go for a 4-3-3 next season.

Seen a bit of him in the Champions League, reminds me very much of Carrick, very good passer of the ball, can play as the DMC but can always do box to box, has been very good as the starting focal point for Shaktar and most of their attacks go through him, I think he would be a huge upgrade on Herrera in that role as the link between Matic and Pogba, box to box, can defend, tackle, reads the game, good at interceptions and can change defence into attack very quickly, would be a quality signing.

Fred seems to be on the radar of Utd, City & Liverpool it sounds like he's ready to move this summer and players from Shaktar seem to do well when they move on Willian, Fernandinho & Mkhitaryan all made big impacts when they moved from there. Here's hoping we get the guy.

Fred is a great player with a high energy work ethic, something we currently lack in our engine room. I'm not sure about his height, I think 5'7 or 5'8 but he carries the ball brilliantly in the transition and can unlock defences with a final ball. He controls the tempo of the game with fast 1 and 2 touch passing and would be a perfect compliment to our midfield options, far superior to Seri or Jorginho.

If we have Matic, Pogba, Sergej Milinokovic Savic, Fred, Herrera and McTominay to cover the 3 positions we would be well set to challenge for the premier league, however knowing how we operate in the transfer market we are more likely to have Matic, Feillani, Herrera, A Pereirra, McTominay and Weigl!
