The thing is you don't need the midfielder to come to change the game on his own, we already have that player in Pogba, you have to make the midfield ticking so Pogba can be that player, Fred looks like good fit with his dynamicy style, which would compliment Pogba well, but not only that he's technically gifted, can pass the ball and dribble and likes to win the ball, it is perfect profile of a player playing next to Pogba who can combine with him and be freed up of some defensive work. Looks a decent player on counter too. Him and someone a bit different like R. Neves would be a great summer and midfield sorted for years. However Neves looks to be staying but we should take a punt on some Brazilian, it's been a while!

So DC says Sandro and Fred. Would be good to monitor this just so we know how reliable he is on transfer related business.

Think we could be signing both. Mourinho has been very specific that he needs a Fellaini replacement and SMS has the best qualities of Fellaini with more technique.
Fred is the player I want because I think he adds the bite we need, is willing to carry the ball forward and provides good competition to push Herrera and McTominay.

If we get Fred, Sandro and Willian there is a distinct possibility we might play some samba football.
I don't watch the Ukrainian league, but if he's a true box-to-box mid with lots of energy and tackling ability I can get behind this transfer. Herrera is the only player we have who can play that role (and even then it's only one out of every two or three performances that we see that Herrera these days) but it's vital to have an engine if we're playing a slow, holding mid like Matic and a defensively porous roaming mid like Pogba.
Think he covered more ground than any other player in the group stage of the CL. In theory he would help us to press better. Worth noting that he is a convicted doper.

Ah, that's very unfortunate. Looks like he tested positive in 2015 for a drug that has no positive effects but could be used to mask PEDs. I wonder if that'll be something that we've looked further into before moving forward on signing him. If he's clean, we could definitely use someone who covers that much ground.

No its not 1,5 seasons. Mourinho is very pragmatic but there were times his teams played very good counter attacking football. Brilliant to watch, unless you're one of them tiki taka purists.
Mostly though, it's all a bit dull.

I would choose Fred. Can't say that I watch the Ukrainian league every week, but his playing style would fit us far better than SMS. A midfield trio with Matic, Pogba and Fred looks far more balanced than with SMS. I doubt that we bring in both, we simply can't afford spending 70 mill on a backup midfielder.
Unless Pogba is on the way out, he has not been a success.
