Interesting profile. I don't quite get the Better Version of Herrera Comments (Although, admittedly I have only a small sample size to analyze from). His Vision is far superior I agree, but technique wise and in terms of tackling, both seem on par. It really depends on how Mou plans to use him though. If he's going to play a little deeper, his passing range may come to good use, but discipline may be an issue. But if he's going to be used like a B2B, then I think it will help in that we will finally have another source of creativity in the final third, which we sorely lack. But ofcourse, a lot depends on the movement in front of him. I can see someone like Mata and Lingard benefitting from his quick play.

Thats what you muppets say every year, I will be expecting you all wanting him sold by January..
Dont say this kind of thing now. The best part of transfer window is the positivity in the threads when we sign someone. In b4 the players arrive and become awful.

SSN must be livid, £50m (if true) is City's standard fee. They'll have to really scrape through his bonuses/salary/travel costs to make this into a story.

Expect some vague headline like 'United sign Fred who could cost them up to £100m' or 'United gamble with expensive Fred signing'

"£50m and they could only afford his first name? What a waste of money!"

Yea, he’s a playmaking CDM who plays box-to-box and can play higher up if need. Essentially is a true midfielder who plays CM but is a CDM with how well he tracks back and sound defensively. Perfect link-up partner for Matic and Pogba and most important thing being he is indeed b2b capable.

And he’s an exceptional tackler.

“ I don’t think people realize how ridiculous 5 tackles per game is. Most DM’s average 2/3 per game and Fred isn’t even a pure dm ”

The tackling stat is great, but im more impressed with his dribbles per game. Unless Pogba drops deep, we lack a player to get us up the pitch by driving with the ball.

what are you trying to say? According to you it seems like our players will all play in the center of the field and will trip all over the place and poor old Lukaku will be stranded alone. oh wait he is an inverted striker too? in which case DDG will be completely entertained!

How on Earth has football ever survived the fact that the vast majority of players on the same pitch are right footed?

Finally a players name that can replace the worst chant at Old Trafford.

FR
FRE
FRED
OK!

His signing announcement is definitely going to be bad news for our mascot.

I'm all for this signing but why didn't we just buy Keita then? He's undoubtedly the superior player.

How have you rated the two against each other?

What's their strengths and weaknesses?

What makes Keita by far the more superior player bar his price tag?

I'm intrigued

Are there any videos of all his touches in a game?

Right set Fred! : )

Welcome dude. Hope he’s a character and a fighter because this squad needs winners.

Just looking at a video of him here. Convinced he’s going to be a very Good signing for us. He’s tenacious and pretty two footed. Great vision and engine. Yes please.

Good points.

Here's something Fred himself said. I culled it from an ESPN article:

"Fonseca allows me to play both offensively and defensively and my main task is to change the direction of attacking moves. Under Lucescu, forwards and full-backs were responsible for that, but now I am the conductor. Everything had changed completely. The coach trusts me and sees qualities that went unnoticed by Lucescu,"

This says a lot about how he thinks in offensive and defensive terms and how he prefers to play. If Jose buys him for this, we might be in for a treat.

An issue was we didn't even have Herrera for most of the season.

i seen that piece by ESPN, but within that same article, they quoted Ukrainian journalist Ilya Novikov , whoever to fcuk he is:

"Fred is still less tenacious, aggressive and tactically disciplined compared to Fernandinho,"

"At times he tends to lose concentration, and doesn't always backtrack quickly enough after losing the ball, but it is possible to improve in those aspects.

"Fred is very good at moving forward, providing quality through-balls. He feels comfortable under pressure, and his dribbling skills are good for a holding midfielder too."

From the little that I have seen of Shakhtar, Fred reminds me a lot of Edgar Davids - tenacious and energetic with very quick feet, skill. technique and incisive passing. He's really a more flamboyant and less disciplined version of Herrera, and would be a better option to play in a 3 man midfield against lesser sides.

Agree with that. In the big matches Ander tends to show up and we've done well. Fred seems more adventurous but I doubt he has Ander's underrated defensive positioning and tracking back. But he does have more physical power and can dribble.

Did you know a football squad is different to a Pokemon deck?

How funny of you. Maybe giving an insight about the player (if you have any) instead of making childish jokes would add much more to the thread though. Jeez, it's like someone is always waiting in the corner to make a mockery of something you said instead of discussing the topic on the Caf these days. If you have nothing to add, try only to read please.

So he's not a DM then?
He sounds like a Modric in terms of defensive responsibility more than a Fernandinho.

We all said Pogba was the midfielder we'd been missing, then we said Matic was the player we'd been missing and would free up Pogba and now Fred is the player we've been missing. I'll reserve judgement because our style of football seems to mean our midfield has no bearing on our play.

Yep, not even excited by any signings until they actually deliver. We could sign Messi and still get him to play like shit.

We've had Herrera, Fellaini and Carrick out for months at a go through last season, and always needed to upgrade.
