Freddy Guarin

He looked pretty good from the little i have seen of him, a little surprised really. He is more than just a 'combative' player, he will bring a lot more technical ability than any of our midfielders currently have.

But it is and Ramires is a better version of this player. They are just unlucky that Van Ginkel is ruled out for so long

There midfield really isn't. Plus i watched him on Sunday. Wasnt impressed, he plays up top and is no better than there attacking trio be that De Bruyan (however you spell his name) included.

Another nail in the coffin for Chalobah to be honest. Plus what are they going to do with Romeu if they get this lad?

Chalobah will be able to make the step up to a PL loan soon and if he performs well he has every chance of getting into the Chelsea side in a few years, he's only 19 after all. Never expected Romeu to stay at Chelsea either, he will probably move back to Spain (where he is on loan also).

You'd expect Mourinho should get this one right given his ties and knowledge of both Porto and Inter/Serie A. Still, I watched some of his youtube videos last night, the ones that show all his individual highlights in one game, and thought he looked a bit crap really. Lost the ball for fun, smashed off the ball a few times, misplaced long passes.

Is there anyone thats seen much of him? Is he really that good?

I have and he's rubbish.

To be fair the Belgians f*cking love De Bruyne - think he's as big a talent as Hazard, and seem to wish Chelsea would let him go. Haven't seen enough of him personally, but if Chelsea could sell one of their 35 attacking midfielders and buy an actual central midfielder, that seems like good business to me.

He's an attacking midfielder. Thats the point. He doesn't play as a centre midfielder.

Exactly what I meant, they could sell De Bruyne and Marin and use the funds to buy a decent midfielder and it would drastically improve them.

Willian too, doesn't really seem good enough imo. More likely that was a favor from Abramovich to his financially stuttering Russian friend.

Willian has been really disappointing yeah. Just passes the ball about decently and gets in to a couple of threatening positions, but hes missing the chances right now

Had some good moments in the Milan derby last night, but overall didn't show real top quality. He was also playing as a #10.

Again, Kovacic on the other hand . He showed real quality when he came on. He will be a very special player for whoever buys him next, and will be a bonafide world class midfielder. Barcelona midfielder level.

Yep, he's certainly an eyesore. He wouldn't improve us IMO, just make us see Nani in a better light in terms of how frustrating a footballer can actually be. His game is flat out confusing. He's technically decent but doesn't seem to have any idea on how to use his talents. He's got some strange shoot on sight policy. Despite his obvious athletic capabilities he adds little to nothing in defence. He isn't someone that you'd say could control the tempo, or dictate the play. He's positionally a nightmare, just always confused as to what he's supposed to be bringing to the table. He's such a puzzling footballer that I've actually seen inter use him in almost every position in the front 6(bar line leading striker). He's a proper no go, the day we making signings like him a regular thing is the day we'll surrender our standing in the game.

Guarin and Fellaini in midfield.

Who's this lad?

Who's this lad?

19 year old Serb they got from Dinamo Zagreb about a year ago for about £10m. Can play deep or behind a front two, special talent. I imagine that he's the one player in Inter's squad they would really not want to sell.

We were also heavily linked with Kovacic while he was at Dinamo. "The new Modric" according to all the stories linking him

Have Inter cleared their debts? He may well be one of those players they have to sell (purely because he's a level above most in that squad) if it's for a serious profit...if they still have the post 2010 crippling debts. I vaguely remember reading something about someone pumping some money into the club but I might be wrong.

He's Croatian. But yeah he looks a great talent. Great on the ball and is extremely quick as well. Like Ramires physically sort of, but he's got a good footballing brain to go along with it. Would love it if we signed him.

New owner. Financial position less clear. Probably don't need to sell but doesn't sound like they intend to spend their way to success.

Serie A club hand Manchester United a midfielder on a plate, want to sell him this window

Inter Milan have big transfer plans. In the Italian press they've been linked with many attacking players, several midfielders and a few defenders. Although the club are currently fifth in Serie A and 20 points off the lead, there was a fresh optimism when Erick Thohir took over as majority owner in October and a new dawn was heralded. The team needed investment and it was assumed that would come.

So where are all the new players?

Erick Thohir has decided on a future of fiscal prudence for Inter Milan, set a relatively low wage cap and informed the manager he'll have to sell before he can buy players. This led to elaborate attempts to offload Fredy Guarin to Chelsea this winter. Many reports in England said it was Jose Mourinho chasing the player and several times the deal was said to be almost done, but in Italy it was clearer that Inter Milan were the ones pushing the transfer.

On the stroke of midnight, TMW picked up a claim from Sky Italia that Inter Milan are now trying to sell Guarin to Manchester United. The operation was said to be at an early stage, a very early stage as they called it 'embryonic'.

Manchester United have been linked with Guarin in the past but at the moment there wouldn't appear to be much genuine interest. Inter Milan would clearly like for that to change and as the transfer window

is now only half way through, David Moyes may welcome the chance of any easy midfield signing but Guarin surely isn't close to the top of his wanted list. A price that started off at around €18m has dropped several times and if a club want Guarin they can probably get him for little over £10m

From the article it seems like he was being pinned on Chelsea, now they've signed Matic, he's being pinned on us. Nothing to suggest either us or Chelsea were genuinely interested, just that we could get him if we wanted, but do we want to?

According to Duncan Castles, Guarin wanted too much money.

"Again the Portuguese preferred Matic, yet once more loomed the brick wall of price and history. “Benfica want too much money,” was the word as an alternative target was proposed. With Internazionale floating a fee of £15m for Fredy Guarin, Mourinho approved a move for him. Guarin's advisors were asked to state terms for joining and, according to a well-placed source, asked for €4.5m a year, after tax, a €1m net increase on his Inter salary.
Big mistake. Chelsea were informed that the former FC Porto midfielder was actually on just €2.5m net in Italy and terminated their interest."

He's having his medical at Juve, allegedly. Does that mean they're selling one of their other midfielders to us?

He always had something slightly fascinating about him, but I don't rate him too much as a player. He was never a definite starter at Porto assuming no injuries, though he was regularly used. If he hasn't improved dramatically since then he should be no more than a squad player at a top club.

I wouldn't read too much into it if it is true. Although they prefer playing Vidal, Pogba and Pirlo as their midfield 3 with Marchisio rotating, Pirlo is 34 and needs more rotating and can't play every game for 90 minutes. This would just be a back up, and I'd be amazed if it was a sign that one of those 4 were moving.

It s more likely that pogba or marchisio ends up in France (psg or monaco). That s where the silly money is right now. juve are very clever, they run the rule on the serie a and then they sell high to the sugar daddies.

He isn't good enough for Juventus or us. In truth, he is an improvement on a few of our midfielders already, but he is not the quality we should be looking for. RooneyLegend was nail on head when he said he just looks like he doesn't actually know what he is on the pitch to do - a strange but good analogy. He's like a (slightly) more technical, more athletic/mobile version of Darron Gibson - he will score a screamer every couple of weeks, but is no more than a midtable player. I can't believe Juventus are in for him, whether one of Pogba, Vidal or Marchisio is leaving or not.
