despite all his flaws, he still manages to produce great performances, hopefully next season the new coach can deploy him in his best position, which is the #8

Ah come on that last bit is harsh, he won it well and broke well with no one to support the counter. Can't remember who was on his right (Dalot?) but he would have slipped it to the wing much quicker if he was further up
Maybe, but I think he could protect the ball better.

Players like Fred really make me wonder at all the players who have wasted their careers away being used incorrectly. Imagine if he had the right manager in back in 2018 when we signed him who knew how to use him properly. Imagine if he went to a club who had his shit together and knew how to use him? Took 3 years of being used incorrectly and absolutely battered in the media with the fans, being made into a meme when he's actually a very good player if used correctly. Honestly just feel bad for him. Had City signed him, you bet your ass that he would be looked at in a much better light.

Jeezus christ, are you serious? He's done immensely well to drive the ball forward, escaping two players only for Fernandes to jog forward and not commit in the challenge. Never change redcafe posters..
Yes, I believe it should be possible for a premier league player to protect the ball better than he did. Pogba regularly gets slaughtered for being tackled on the ball.

Manchester United turns players into memes instead. Phil Jones his weird faces, Jlingz/Lingardinho who didnt score for a season and currently Maguire and McFred.

Becoming a shoe in for Player of the Season.
Yes was just going to post that. Even though it's shades of when Shaw won it a few years back he still deserves it.

Can never question his heart or his attitude. Would be a better player in a better team/system.

Gives his all every game, and leaves it all on the pitch. Glad he got a goal too.

As many know, been a Fred fan for a long time. Was never ever a 6, didn’t come here as that, played there cause he’s been asked to and lambasted for not being able to? Finally played further forward until Carrick and then after RR and look at the difference.

For me Fred is a cog, not a main one but lots of good teams have them. His problem is he doesn’t hide, he wants to win and puts himself in a position that other far better players should do. Often this exposes his weaknesses but play him to his strengths, limit his role but given him a clear role like for Brazil and you’ll see the best of him.

absolute nonsense, in other words he went past two players and created a chance if not for not overly comited Bruno

He ran into trouble. It’s not the worst crime in the world and it’s not why we conceded but it was poor play for me.

I've been a fan of Fred for a long time but he's showing a very high level over the last few months, higher than I thought he was capable of.

Becoming a shoe in for Player of the Season.

Was our worst first teamer for the first half of the season so he's still got a lot to do. Obviously nobody has been great the entire season but De Gea has certainly been great more often than Fred

All players have strengths and weaknesses. Fred still makes a poor pass on occasions, but overall, he has been better than Pogba at the #8 role in Rangnick's pressing system. Pogba stands on the ball too long, and Bruno has the same tendency, whereas Fred moves - generally forward and looks to pass quickly. And he consistently is winning balls and intercepting passes. We've played better with Matic, Fred and Bruno in midfield, than with any other grouping.

I thought he was isolated more than bad. We were playing a 415 most weeks with most of the forwards not defending. I mean everyone has been terrible this season, and his form at the start of the season was ropy but i think hes been holding a decent standard most games.

It was the mistakes that made him bad, constantly losing the ball in bad areas with a poor touch or pass. Now when he does it its 20-30 yards further forward giving the team the chance to get some shape and defend the counter

Maguire, Shaw, AWB, McT, Sancho, and Rashford were all worse than Fred in the first half of the season. Players that didn't play much, but were also worse were Dalot, Martial, and Cavani.

It's going to be a bit embarrassing no matter who wins the POTY award for us this year but he'd be my choice. He reminds me sometimes of Valencia when he was here in that you can never fault his attitude even if sometimes he picks the wrong pass or wastes possession.

Get the feeling any new manager we get will like him.

He was breaking forward after winning the ball? He left a 50 50 ball after getting tackled. Pogba then proceeds to stroll (does he have any other gear apart from rash tackle?) out to Maddison. It was horrible. Sums up our other players level of guile and commitment! That fella is on some of the biggest money in the league/team. To stroll around and spray the Odd long ball? The game has moved on

The only player worth his salt on Saturday. He’s actually beginning to play quite consistently well also. Could be the one midfielder we have who could have a roll in a new set up.

I don’t know what you’re laughing at? Shouldn’t you be in Pogbas thread defending him as his season peters out into the predictable embarrassment it was always going to be? “He was brilliant” after yet another stroll in the park. Sick of it.
 Why would I defend him when he had a poor game. I don’t need to. I also don’t need to run around every other performance thread, bar one silent thread, blaming one player when the whole team was shite.

Maybe, but I think he could protect the ball better.
He was tackled by one player while holding off/trying ot get past two others with no one running in line with him on the counter..it happens all the time in counters. He did well to reach into the middle of their half when he got tackled. It then fell to Bruno who was behind the play, and then jumped out of the challenge, and the rest is history.

If half our talented players had the heart, effort and application of Fred we would be in 3rd comfortably.

And like I said, Pogba regularly gets criticised for doing the same thing. If Rashford had put his head down and tried to dribble past three or four players and lost the ball you can guarantee he’d be getting pelters for it.

If half of our players had the ability of Fred we’d be battling for 6th.

There's a huge difference between doing it when being the highest player trying to launch a counter-attack out from the back, and being in the middle of the field surrounded by players or on the wing when you have time and options. I can't believe I'm even having to type that. Nobody would have blamed Pogba or Rashford for losing the ball in this particular scenario.

Oh they definitely would. I’m not even blaming Fred for the goal. It was just shit play that led to more shit play.

Pogba does this standing up though. Fred was running/dribbling into the opposition on a counter, having won the ball in our own half. Rashford does it in the corner of the pitch or box, when he has several passes available, usually from a standstill. Fred had no pass because no one was running with him on the counter except Bruno who was behind the play - running forward you will find it hard to pass backwards with 2 opposition players behind you and one on your side sliding in.

Context is always key.

Exactly. Haters gonna hate though.

Fred has more talent than plenty of our starters. What he lacked in the past is consistency (while playing as a #^) and he's shown more consistency than many of our starters in his more natural role.

He doesn’t but we won’t agree so happy to leave it there.

There’s literally never been a time when people haven’t blamed Pogba for losing a ball which led to a goal.

Ok, maybe I shouldn't have said 'nobody'. There's always some idiots who don't look at the context and whose dislike for a player leads them to blame them for ridiculous things. But that's also the case here, where anybody blaming Fred in that particular situation is obviously being ridiculous.

Who the feck actually thought he is a DM ? I would really like to know that. Seriously a bunch of incompetent fools.
