That’s a travesty. I was wondering what Carra was going on about praising McT yesterday who I felt had a pretty poor to average game.

McTominay had almost as many clearances as our CBs (5 McTom, 6 Bailly and 9 Lindelof)

But thats the only thing he really did more than Fred against Chelsea.

However, he also didnt have a tragically poor attempt on goal when given the ball 18 yards out by their goalkeeper and didnt dive trying to get a penalty which were both bad from Fred

Fred was still better but when we're talking about a midfielder who managed to play 33 passes in 90 mins being better than a midfielder who managed to make 26, I dont think either were that impressive

*Checks stats on Fred in order to slag him off*

*Realises they’re quite good*

*Doesn’t post any stats other than the one and only stat that could possibly be used against him*

Textbook Mcfeckwit agenda posting.

I felt that both Mctominay and Fred had a good match.

Not sure why we are saying one is worse than another.

We didn't exactly play Crystal Palace - we played the number 1 team currently in the Premier League table.

Yah but when you’re passing backwards all the time and can’t see an easy pass on the angle to get something started like McT was then you’ve had a poor game. The amount of times there were east passes to create a good angle and he was just oblivious to them. So that’s why I dont think he had a good game and he did seem to struggle with his positioning yesterday.

I agree, too much of that from McTom

See the worst thing for him. At one point Fred was giving him an absolute ear bashing for a moment when we could have had a good attack and Fred was in a great position to play the next pass of McT who had plenty of chances to play the ball just never did and ended killing the whole move. Soon as the ball went out Fred let him have it.

Fred was even instructing him to get in positions during most of the game so honestly I just don’t know if I can in my heart of hearts say I thought he had a good game.

McTominay needs to improve on his passing and I'm sure he can do this with proper coaching.
Moving the ball quicker and winning it back as Rangnick will coach them will improve a lot of players here.
We will then have to see who he brings in this coming January window.

He gives everything, never hides always puts a shift in. A very useful team player to have.

This season imo he has been is one our better performers (albeit the bar is low).

The hate he gets is well over the top.

I'm not a huge fan of Fred but when he has those kind of games you can only praise him. He was everywhere. The energy on him is crazy. Just hope Rangnick can cut out the sloppy passes in his game.

Also thought Bailly was class too. Those two were neck and neck for MOTM

Absolutely love the guy to bits. I really hope he can win a trophy with us.

I have a feeling he could become a key player in the next 2-3 years.

Fred is going to be a massive benefactor of Rangick. The pressing style will suit him, he also does like the one touch passes round the corner, which is what we are going to be doing to get out our half.

Will likely do well under Rangnick.

Good game against Chelsea, since the system was basically set up for him to be a free roaming ball winner - which he did. Unfortunately other than running around and winning the ball back, he still offers very little (and nothing at all in the final third). I hope Rangnick can improve his on-the-ball skillset.

But Mctominay was given the MOTM by Sky sports

It is missing the pass over the top to Sancho, as well. If Sancho controlled it properly, it would have been 1 on 1.

That chance seems to have been a bit forgotten, for some reason.

Not a big fan, maybe wrongly, but he was great last night and I’m cautiously optimistic that he could be coached into a key player.

Never gonna be the type to bang in 15 goals a season and 10 assists. What he can he is that player who wins it quickly (as shown in the Villareal game) and help create that way.
Even if hes only being told to release the ball quickly after stealing it and allowing our sharper attackers possession in dangerous areas then it could a big plus.

Yeah, Fred was easily best player for ManUtd. Should have been MOTM. Shame he doesn't get the credit he deserves.

One thing I've noticed that game was that he was extremely high up the pitch both on counter attacks and on pressures. More of a Kante type role than the deepest player in the midfield.

Playing a hybrid DM / back 3 type formation with Matic in it gives him that freedom I think. He'll still make mistakes but in the parts of the pitch where his mistakes aren't as heavily penalized.

Good observation. And playing him higher up the pitch is the best way to use him.

Yeah he simply can’t take the ball from the back four under pressure...much more suited to a high press. Although if you play him further forward you would expect his passing to be much more incisive and it’s simply not.

Is this so we totally destroy what little attacking play we have, Jesus wept the guys worst part of the game is attacking

I don't think people mean you play him higher up the pitch to use his attacking abilities.

It's more what Fletcher did in a midfield three at his best.

Fred craps his pants in the final third, as we saw again yesterday, but he fights for every scrap he can get his boots on.

I'm usually pretty critical of Fred as he's erratic as feck but he was our best player on the weekend and miles better than the mediocre McTominay.

Players are valued too much by their money.

Fred is a good player. If he cost 24 million I doubt people would complain as much.

The price of the player is more influenced by the club going for him & with United going for any player that has some sort of knowledge to the public gets a big sum attached to their head.

I mean look at Amad Diallo - an overall transfer including future fees for 41 million euros.

That's got hardly anything to do with Diallo and more the club that's interested.

Rangnick is going to turn this little 5 foot Brazilian terrier into a midfield beast. Watch this space.

Fred first name in the team sheet? Would get into city's squad? Some of you need to give your head a wobble.

Gotten so used to mediocrity that simply running around and giving players problems is enough for you in a midfielder.

He's a worse version of Jordan feckin Henderson.

A good player to have in your squad, and can do certain jobs in certain games (similar to park), but we're never winning anything with Fred being an automatic starter. It's glaringly obvious he's a level below what's required to be a starting mid in a side with trophy winning aspirations. That "chip" was criminal.
Might need to give your own head a wobble. He performs very well for Brazil. Can't fault the player when this United team is rudderless. Blame the ex-manager rather than the player.

Fred at Copa América 2021 [Brazil rank]:
23 passes into the final third [1st]
23 progressive passes [1st]
10 attempted tackles [1st]*
8 successful tackles [1st]

He will be the Ji-sung Park of this team, honestly better with the ball. Absolutely gives all he can when playing.
Just needs proper coaching of how to press and make more smart movements.

He's 28 y.o. and going 29 next March. As a midfielder, what you see now is what you get. I doubt you can coach him to do better in 6 months.

Of course you can. Players are reaching their peak at 33 now. Give him a defined role with certain duties and he will just take it to another level.

which good midfielder reaching his peak at 33? All i see is downhill for Fred, as he relies much on his insane energy to compete.

He used to be one of my fave. But over the years, I think if we want to progress, he (and McTom) shouldn't be on our best starting XI.

It seems Sky pundits were watching another game. It was Fred and De Gea by some distance and then Sancho just because the goal. All the others were bang poor.

At least half the people who post in this thread should be forced to watch that on repeat for hours, Clockwork Orange style.
I don’t think anyone doubts his industry it is just the basics like passing a ball and shooting which are lacking.

Must admit I like Fred. I leave all the arguments aside about his ability, it's his attitude. He's a fighter and a fecking leader, when the shit hits the fan, our backs against the wall, he delivers. Bigger the game, the bigger his performance. If there is any trouble on the pitch, he always there to back his team mates. He will be instrumental in our side, going forward.
