93% passing accuracy in the Uruguay game, like Pogba lights up the pitch for France. Is it something in the water in Prestbury that makes them play like kids at OT?

Since last year we are basically asking fred to be a one man pressing and tempo setting midfield and complaining when absolutely everything doesn’t come off. At this stage some people even still complain when he clearly plays well. France seem to tactically adapt for Pogba getting forward and being slowish to get back. Fred has been very good for the NT but he has solid partnerships in the midfield for Brazil. It’s tactics and personnel more or less. If we got someone defensively strong in there who can do a bit more on the ball I think he’d look miles better.

Oh please come on. It's simply, get rid of Fred and the PL and CL is ours........!!!!!

Something like that! Give me a few of these somewhat technically flawed (but Fred is actually better technically than people give him credit for too) but extremely hard working players over 11 technical but low work rate and slow to press players. You’ve a much better chance of winning a game if you have the balance right between the two or tipped slightly more to the aggressive side. We’ve seen it with all our other managers and top reputation players not really playing for them. You can be as expensive or as technically good as you like. If the team doesn’t have enough desire it’s curtains.

So when you gonna start for Manchester United or Brazil? I’m gonna put popcorn ready and laugh myself through the couch.

On more serious note, do Fred plays higher position in Brazil? They play 4-3-3 right? And he is not the deepest player in the midfield?
I'm not Brazilian, so I'll never play for Brazil. Your argument is therefore severely floored. You must have eaten a lot of popcorn to fall through your couch, steady on there mate!

Yeah, get back to me when you're dominating Uruguay from midfield.
Get back to me when you've been to have your eyes tested, as he certainly did not "dominate" Uruguay singlehandedly.

He's played well for Brazil recently, Was very good for them in Copa and has done well in in the WC qualifying game. But, not sure what's happening when he lines up for us. He's just been a liability from the start of the season.

It's probably a good thing that he'll miss the Leicester game. Hopefully will perform well against Atalanta because will be nailed on starter for that.

Name one CM who has been good for United this season. I think you have your answer there.

Hmm, if you could just point out where I said he dominated them single handedly, that would be great.

I was hungry and thought I was out of food. Thanks for reminding me I have popcorn lying around somewhere.

Great assist but look at the time he's afforded on the ball to pick a pass, even I'd look decent with that amount of space. He'll 100% won't be afforded the space and time on the ball vs Leicester if he plays this weekend.
The fact that you see yourself so highly and think the game is so easy that even you, Mr.Pascell who hasn’t played any professional football can play great against Uruguay is laughable.

Probably sitting in your Moms basement eating some cookies and milk thinking you can do a better job than professional footballers.

You are a wondering why people are laughing at your post.

More of a pot noodle guy myself thanks

In midfield, as I've previously said. This is going absolutely nowhere, have a good evening.

Matic has been good when he's played. Problem is Ole doesn't know how to setup the team with what he has. Plays McFred trying to be cautious but, they've been off form. Then playing Scott and Pogba as 2 #8s all over the pitch. The whole midfield has been a constant change in this early part of the season but, Fred's just been way off so far.

if he & Cavani do not quarantine, then both will be available for selection vs Leicester

There were exceptions made for the quarantine requirements players, they'd be able to train, practice and play but, then quarantine after if not vaccinated. But, that is not the issue. They don't get back till late tonight after having just played a full game and travelling 12 hours across 6 time zones, no chance but, been wrong, once in a while.

I just saw Ole's presser after I wrote my comment , he mentioned he's not counting on them (Cavani & Fred), so probably they'd be either not in match day squad or in the bench at most

Whether good enough for Utd (?) Im not bothered if they sold him tomorrow but the nonsense people post about his ability is clearly wrong. He is not a bad footballer, seen him play many times in a Brazil shirt and you don't wear that if you can't. They aren't calling him up, if he is costing them games and there are loads of other players they could pick otherwise.

The problem for me is, he's not a 6 anymore that Scott is. It's like asking Harry to play LB and then criticising him for being shite at it. Fred for me is a 8, but he's not the best 8 at the club and neither is Scott or VDB. Scott clearly isn't going anyway but I think Fred and VDB should find football somewhere else, where they can be scrutinised in their favourable positions getting regular football.

Don’t know what the other guy is on about.
It was a great a pass yes.
But after watching it I’m thinking he’s got zero pressure, all the time in the world, not just for the goal but Uruguay are sitting back. You wouldn’t get that time in the PL

It's always funny seeing people talk about this mythical PL where no one makes a pass or a cross without being pressed mercilessly by the opposition. I mean last game, Fred made a cross to Cavani with less pressure than what he got against Uruguay with a couple of Everton players just casually observing him.

Yeah lets just bring back Matic again. "Hes been good when he's played" just re-try that for the 10th time again, as if we are incapable of remembering the result of former "trying outs". All that on the base of "him being good" the last time he provided a pass when coming on for the last 10minutes of a game.

Playing Matic gives you two things: a pretty reliable passer and the security that his midfield partner will have to hold midfield on his own. But sure, lets try that, I mean, its all worth it just to get rid of Fred because he is the one, who is causing us being so bad at creating chances and defending counters. After all, who if not him should be responsible for us not getting all three points against Everton when one mighty goal wasn't enough to win a PL game... I mean, there was no absolutely no way to influence that result after conceding from this counter shortly before full-time (in the 65. minute...)

People will see what they want to see, then won't have anyone tell them differently on here, that's the problem.

If they'd have watched any United games since Fred joined, for instance one of the first games he played for us vs Wolves, they'd have seen Fred targeted via the press and they put under pressure with him facing his own goal and surrendering possession multiple times. Teams then saw this and adopted the same approach, Fred just isn't press resistant.

Any professional footballer would look brilliant without any pressure applied, it'd be like a training exercise, it's when pressure is applied that you see the true class, calibre and level of a football player.

I wish people would their mind up. Fred can't pass......now he can't pass if under pressure. Fred maybe not suited from the prem but I honestly don't think he's as bad as people make out....

......wasn't they saying Matic was too slow last season? Really glad that sprint training worked well over the summer

:D yeah, I think you are onto something here.

Seriously, I think, a lot of people have been infected by the RAWK-virus, that turns the players who are not playing on a regular basis into world beaters until they play again. Will never forget that statement about the former Liverpool player Lucas...

Lucas has gradually gone from one of the more underrated players in Liverpool's squad, to their most consistent midfielder, to their best midfielder, to Liverpool's missing link to Premier League glory, to one of the best midfielders in the world.

The last three steps have happened during his injury.

Whoever created it, credit where credit is due. You are a hero.

Where did I say that he can’t pass? I’m only talking about that one match. I’m literally saying that in that match there was little pressure.
I too don’t think he’s as bad as people make out but maybe in the wrong position going by what he said. However if that’s the case he’s not going to get that here.
It’s also telling that he mentions that if you give the ball away further up he can run and get it back. However if he loses the ball in midfield then the defence is already under pressure

Most of the teams are shit when he plays for Brazil

Our defensive midfielder prefers not to play defensive midfield
Scott said something similar last year on international duty, that he is a box to box. Yet our manager seems intent in trying to convert them both to CDM even when we do have a specialised CDM at the club who he doesn't play. Incidentally I don't think either Fred or Mctom are good enough to be first team players here.

Yeah and and then you have Ronaldo glorified for a hattrick against Gibraltar heavyweights...Again double measures and player favouritism. Uruguay are not minnows and Copa is a good tournament, Fred has been great for them past year and benched much "better" midfielders. Missing the point here.

Clear as a day he plays out of position because we are trying to fit the holes in the team. Still better than shoehornign Carrick's and Ole's wet dream McTominay as a 6. Never seen such a nonsense, Player with absolute shombolic positional awareness, no dynamism and willingess to get into positions to recieve the ball and horrible passing ability trying to play deeper in midfield to sit because somewhat he's tall and hard in tackle and good boy willing to learn.

Pogba is another story there.

What a ball for that assist. Pisses me off when our fans say he can't pass. He quite clearly can. He should have had an assist against Everton as well.

Great assist but look at the time he's afforded on the ball to pick a pass, even I'd look decent with that amount of space. He'll 100% won't be afforded the space and time on the ball vs Leicester if he plays this weekend.
Are you serious? He was being closed down as soon as the ball reached him.

I'm sure all clubs have fans that do it, but they complain when the players they don't like make any mistake. For us, it's mostly Fred and McTominay to a lesser degree. I watch Bruno give the ball away multiple times every game and you will see very few people say anything negative.

He 100% would. Brazil play him next to an actual #6 and let him play his natural game. United ask him to sit and play as a #6. He can do it, but not at a consistent level. We have a bunch of midfielders that are #8's and try and play them as a #6. I'm not at all shocked that Fred has said he would prefer to play further forward.

I don't know about Pogba. He played CM for France in the Nations final and put in a world class performance. They were playing a 3-4-3. That takes a little bit of the defensive responsibility away from him, but he still did an excellent job defensively.
