It's funny cause whilst the focus is on Fred, people can't see the shite that's happening around them. People are convinced getting that getting a CDM solves everything, think again.
I think it's pretty clear that i'm not a big fan of the lad - that being said, he wasn't as bad today as he has been in recent weeks.
That still isn't worthy of praise however, I suspect this is a 'standard' level performance from him and it's still just not good enough.

He is absolute wank. But so are our tactics. Players like him get found out and exposed brutally in a non existent system. His passing was never great and consistent, and it gets exposed under Ole even more, as his teammates are all over the place and one doesn't know what the other is doing.
This is boring. We get it, people think he's good enough. He don't pick themselves.....

I don't think I will pass to him if he was my teammate. He will make a mess of a good ball. His ball control reminds me of Bebe. I am Brazilian and I don't believe he has a Brazilian gene in him. Neymar has stop passing the ball to him in the national team when Fred is picked.

I don't get the criticism. He won a couple of balls and was at least looking to receive and pass the ball. His partner on the other hand makes it very hard for him. McTominay does absolutely nothing with the ball. Never shows for it and will only make the most basic useless passes imagineable when he's uncontested.
Fred would do so much better with VDB next to him. An actual footballer rather than a homegrown Fellaini. At least try it out and if he sinks, we know he'll wont refuse a transfer and we can find Fred a new partner. McTominay will never be the answer to us controlling a game. He can shine in a scrappy game, but you don't bring a boxer to game of chess.

Which I can understand to a degree. But a mediocre player, is still a mediocre player, regardless.
It's easy to bash Fred after every single negative result, but the reality is he played well today. The criticism is getting a bit brainless.
The point being that a younger player has more time and less experience, so is more likely to go beyond being mediocre than someone in their prime and still sub par

Thought he was decent. It's always easy to blame him due to his careless use of possession, but at the end of the day he did a decent job at protecting the back four. Would've been pretty ugly without him there.
Nothing to do with hate parade, least not with me. I just don't think he offers much to our squad. Apart from the good engine that is. He does get stuck in gear. Mind you Ole doesn't help. He just doesn't know how to adapt when the opposition had the measure of us.
Played well today but I just knew that despite all the great things he did today the only moments in people’s memories would be the mis control that led to a move breaking down, and a poor shot which would translate in to he was crap for the majority.

Overall he was good today popping up everywhere as per usual and was easily one of if not the best performer for us.

I don't even think Fred was that bad today certainly not the worst but its getting old that every other player gets shit on in here the minute someone criticizes Fred's performance, in this his performance thread. The sheer fecking audacity of those people.
This season so far Matic, Pogba and now McTominay it seems have been at fault for Fred's poor performances.
He's just not good enough for the Premier League.
He is part of a hugely dysfunctional midfield and in that sense I don’t understand how anybody can say his performance is acceptable.
For large parts of the game we simply could not find a way to play out the back and kept losing the ball to the press. We were dominated in midfield by Aston Villa ffs
I honestly don’t understand the McFred pairing. It is supposedly supposed to provide more defensive stability but we were all over the place. I don’t see what damage a more creative player like VDB would do in this midfield since on current form it is simply shocking

The problem isn’t just what they do. The problem is often what is ahead of them. Any good football team gives anyone on the ball plenty of passing options. Bruno, Pogba, Greenwood whoever is playing rarely make any good and easy passing options. Instead we expect them to be able to beat two players to get a pass away.

McTominay is only three and a half years younger. He turns 25 in a couple of months. It's not like he's a kid just breaking into the side.
Agreed. Fred was one of our better players today. Did his job well. Once again a one man defensive midfield and the only one willing to sit and set a tempo playing simple progressive passes and always showing for it. The attack was getting in each other’s way. No press. Mct was poor. Pogba was awful. Did Ronaldo have a shot on target? In a rational conversation there should be quite a few players ahead of Fred getting stick this evening.

The midfield and defense never managed to get the game under control and get the ball forward quick enough for our attackers to be in positions to be threatening
Ontop of that McFred didn’t even provide a good shield for the defense since Villa threatened more than we did and had better opportunities all game
The midfield has to take collective responsibility for that including Fred.
Granted we have not had a good midfield since Carrick retired so this is nothing particularly new
It's all about currency. Fred has very little and that's clear that even when good, people still look at his previous performances. I want him benched and Matic and Donny come in, we will see the issues are much more entrenched than Fred. Fred can be upgraded no doubt but we see if CR, Varane or Sancho upgrades makes feck all difference under this manager?

Our fans hate Fred, so even if he does fine, he will still get criticised. Shaw, Maguire, McT, Pogba were all very bad and deserve criticism before Fred.
Fred gets shit on way more than any of our players and it isn't close. Especially over the wider internet. I think Fred was bad against Southampton and Wolves. I don't think his parters or the way the team set up in those games helped, but he was still bad. I think he was fine against Leeds, Young Boys, and today, but he still got shit from our fans against Young Boys and he will today as well.
I get tired of seeing 1/2 players get a lot of hate when they're not the main issue for poor performances.

He offers nothing else, he can’t pass, can’t shoot, can’t cross, can’t do anything. Play him against City when they have 70% possession and don’t play him in any other game. Stick VdB in there and let him distribute the ball, so what if we lose some pressing ability against Villa. I’m just so tired of seeing this guy play every week.

Yup. Good post. The constant need for a whipping boy on redcafe is so fecking tiresome. This is John O’Shea all over again. Crazy how often people need to pile on the usual suspect even when he hasn’t played particularly badly (in a match where a number of players really did play badly)

His individual performance was ok, the tactics of the team were appalling. Where is the system? This is Ole’s team now and it’s looking very much like it’s all a bit gravy on exactly how he’s getting the best out of anyone bar maybe De Gea. But then again Dave does have a very specific role in the team whilst others are just running a lot.
Agreed that he can't shoot, but he passes better than McTominay. And makes himself available for people to pass to, unlike Scott who pretty much hides. Plus Fred wins the ball back a lot more. So why is it Fred that you want dropped?
